  1. Hey, this ain't a confessional Sarah. If you've got some issues to sort out with Beeks then nip round and see him. We're talking about a film here - I'm watching "Motor City's Burning" for the third time on BB2 as we speak........ The "Souled Out" film's got almost no chance with the stalwart traditional N.S. audience I reckon. There's simply too many things that they'll slip up on with SS'ers. After all, this is the most critical Northern Soul forum in the world - most of the time we can't even agree with ourselves LOL...... For a film company to get every single last nuance of the scene right is frankly impossible. Take it with a large pinch of salt on your popcorn and it may be halfway enjoyable. If it finds an audience and turns into a huge international hit, it will fuel interest in a scene which, frankly, could probably benefit from a massive injection of youthful energy. Which, after all, is what fueled the scene in the first place. Great thread though! The advance PR machine certainly got it's money's worth here but probably much more than they bargained for methinks........ Ian D
  2. I'm racking my brains wondering if there's a precedent for this type of film? I seem to recall "Velvet Goldmine" was about the Glam Rock era and loosely based on David Bowie's career and, in fact, the title of one of his songs. However, Bowie didn't like the script and vetoed the use of any of his songs in the film. The film took a dive at the box office and make just $1.5 million on a budget of $9 million: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velvet_Goldmine Also there was a film called "Shag" which covered the Beach Music scene which similarly bombed at the time but I never saw that, so I can't comment if I thought it was any good or not. The best film I've seen about the music scene was Michael Winterbottom's "24 Hour Party People" which documented the rise and fall of Factory Records and the Hacienda. If "Souled Out" gets anywhere near that, I'll applaud it! Ian D
  3. It'll stand or fall on it's own merits Mossy. I'm a film buff and hard to please anyway, so if it is any good it'll be a nice surprise...... Ian D
  4. Well now you put it that way........ As I've always said no one can fault your commitment, belief and passion for Soul Music even if you can be an arrogant bombastic twat occasionally LOL.... Good to have you back on here. Always guaranteed to blow away the cobwebs! Ian D
  5. I'm usually deadly accurate Ian and actually very supportive of your more credible ventures dear - check the SWOLS thread for instance. Don't be falling out with me mate - you've got enough on your hands haven't you? Incidentaly, I'm gonna ring ya re a perfect venue for your next launch, so try not to piss me off too much LOL..... Ian D
  6. Morning Gavin. Plenty of action on here now LOL... Ian D
  7. Blimey, I tune into "Family Guy" for 20 minutes and look what happens! This should be fun...... Ian D
  8. Plenty of places still around - I was there 18 months ago. But they come and go. I'd pop down to the Village, check out the shops and ask the incredibly helpful people behind the counters - Bleeker Bob's, House Of Oldies etc which shops are still going and they'll direct you from there. Also check out the flea markets in Manhattan on Sundays as there's a few and there's always stuff knocking around. Good luck! Ian D
  9. Just a bump. These two releases are spurring quite a bit of interest with substantial re-orders from all the main sellers and lots of enthusiasm generally. I've done about 20 of each since last week and still got some going from the batch I got allocated, so check 'em out if ya can. Ian D
  10. That was one of mine Sebastian (albeit uncredited I think)! Glad you liked it LOL. Look what it started! Ian D

  13. Wish I could give sound-files on these two! The more I listen to 'em, the better they are. These are looking more popular than the Joe Bataan 7"'s I put up a couple of weeks ago and they sold out quick! Ian D

  16. Wow. Just played the flip of my beaten up Pama copy of "Can't Get A Hold Of Myself" and it's a stormer isn't it? Best bassline since "Sister Lee" LOL and I see what Roddy means about the Pama pressing being loud but I think that's an advantage. Going for £30 by the way if anyone wants one....... Ian D
  17. Damn. I'm blocked! Best one to use and nearest to Z-Share is https://limelinx.com/Home.aspx You can listen before downloading and it's not blocked........yet! Ian D
  18. Anyone who hasn't checked Mel's podcasts should deffo give 'em a listen! He's one of the most musically knowledgeable people on the planet and who knows what's in that vast collection of his? This could be a good place to start! Nice one Mel! Ian D
  19. Sure is Mel! Al's into his football big time, so it was really a natural move for him plus I could never stop him talking about Chelsea all the time so he's now in the perfect show LOL.... I've always tended to hog the show musically anyway which gives me the excuse to play the Grady Harrell, J.P. Rogers Jr and Ullanda McCullough etc, etc records a few times to break 'em in to a wider audience. That's the theory anyway......... Anyway I guess I'l have to start shopping around for a new sidekick on Sundays and certainly have a few guests dropping by....... Cheers Mel. Ian D
  20. And let's not forget our friends from Spain......Los Canarios....."Get On Your Knees" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-02Ow6Q0TvE...feature=related Ian D
  21. Wow, what a week. It turns out that this will probably be the last live studio show Al and I will be doing for a while, as Al's moving over to Saturdays to co-host "The Football Show" with Tony Mathews - you can catch the guys every Saturday afternoon 3.00-6.00pm where they'll be delivering a scorching show packed with all the latest score updates, more irreverent chatter and, of course, the usual Starpoint diet of great music. However, the Original Mastercuts show will continue in the usual crowd-pleasing format as it's become something of a Sunday Afternoon institution these days. Also I really enjoy the show and especially the constant buzz of putting together a fresh 2 hour show, week in, week out, rain or shine. With over 200 hours of Original Mastercuts shows over the last 2 years, it's a legacy that I'm keen to continue for the foreseeable future! Also, Al and I will be presenting part of the live broadcast for The Starpoint Carnival Party @ The Ramshackle in Fulham on Monday 25th August 2.00-11.00 so make sure you join us and the rest of the Starpoint posse on Carnival Day! It's Free, it'll be Fun and there's gonna be Food, so come join us. Best of luck to Al and Tony! At last the Original Mastercuts show will forgo the usual monologue abut Chelsea FC from this point forward LOL! Anyway, luckily it was a good show with no hiccups!
