Finally some validation LOL.
Seriously great news. Good for NME and great for Elaine! Couldn't happen to a better project.

Just took a look at some of the stuff on the face book page , plenty of pictures of the Supremes i have never seen before ,right up my street , love the social history side of things , Also a youtube? clip of Jimmy Mack My World is on fire , billed " the ultimate riot record " . Never thought about the record in that particular way before ,would be very interested to know if it was created with that intent? , was it crossing over the two topics ( in this case heady , passionate love and rioting ) like is done in Love Factory, Wash And Wear Love or Cashing In ? or was it just a coincidence that the disc was around just before the riots ? There has always been speculation that Dancing in the Streets was a clarion call to riot , never really accepted that view , very interesting nonetheless .
I've known Stuart since early 70s Leeds Central. He's a serious guy and this will be an engaging read. He started off on the Northern Soul scene in the early 70s, spent 4 years at Washington University, became editor of the New Musical Express and is now a senior figure at Channel 4. Stuart's an intellectual and I'll be interested to see how he interprets Detroit in 1967 - I'll probably learn something that I wasn't aware of before. He's one of the few people on the scene that is capable of writing a book on this period and I can't wait to read it.

Hi Ian, it's a super project but I don't think you should have listed me as assisting in the compiling. All I did was put you right on a couple of licensors. You and Timmy should get the glory.
So many people involved I thought I'd better list 'em all.
I should point out that Ady helped out with some of our last minute license kerfuffles!

Smart move Jim. The costs of producing and warehousing these box sets is huge these days, so the early pressing runs are the only ones that are guaranteed since it's so expensive to do re-runs that they won't bother unless it's for 1K+. The early bird gets the worm mate!

Problem is Ian Lots of of those tracks are free downloads or are on other compilations. It looks good but that's about it to me. Price is a bit much as well! I was thinking more around the £49.99 mark and was a bit shocked when I saw it! Anyhow whoever buys it wont be spoiled for choice in the car on along journey!
Well free downloads are illegal of course and no serious collector would dream of ripping of the copyright owners, writers and artists I presume? Every track on here has been legally licensed for decent royalties and advances.
For 8 x CDs, 230 properly mastered tracks, 2 DVDs of brand new content and a 160 page book I think the £49.99 Dealer Price is a bargain. When Amazon drop their price (as they inevitably will) their price will drop to something even better.
Also this is not particularly aimed at people who already have the stuff. The Northern Soul soundtrack shows that there is a huge audience out there who want to learn, so this is as good a start as any.

In order to affirm some of the above comments, the "Northern Soul" soundtrack release has also been nominated for the Music Week Catalogue Campaign Of The Year too. It's been a huge success for the music business generally with incredible sales and an increased awareness in the potential of this music some 50 years later! It's incredible that in a time of massively declining CD sales, "Northern Soul" is Harmless's biggest-ever seller and one of the main sales highlights from 2014. This release brought a LOT of people back into the shops and has stimulated a younger audience that is keen to learn more. Fingers crossed! I'd LOVE it to win!

It's kinda similar to "Here Come The Girls" - Ernie K. Doe when they used it on the Boots ad about 10 years ago. I think Soul Jazz did pretty well out of that. How about re-releasing as a 45 for Record Store day? I guarantee it'll be a monster of a RSD release.... Ian D

We are and they want me and you to dance to it for TOTP
That's cool. My kinda tempo. I can slouch on a stool jiggling my right leg whilst you do the heavy work OK?
It's about time TOTP had a bit of glamour.......

I chose the wrong Bobby Angelle track for that then!
It's a pop hit Ady. You need to rush-release it as a chart contender!

Hmm, preordered on Amazon ages ago, still no sign of my copy arriving.
According to the latest from Amazon "unforeseen problems have caused a delay" whatever that means. Anyone else not had theirs? Ian, any idea what's going on? Run out of copies?
Nah Dave. Plenty of copies. There shouldn't be a problem. Sounds like an excuse to me.....

I notice the leap in the Amazon charts today since the price dropped:-
- Amazon Bestsellers Rank: 1,475 in Music (See Top 100 in Music)
- #9 in Music > R&B and Soul > Motown
- #24 in Music > R&B and Soul > Soul
- #36 in Music > Pop > Pop R&B
Selling tremendously now. But please don't forget your local dedicated record shops too!

Worth pointing out that Amazon have done one of their unpredictable price-drops on the Holland-Dozier-Holland Rare 45s Vinyl Box. Now available @ a staggering £41.79 including postage. That works out @ £4.00 per unreleased 7" single and there are only 1000.
Anyone wanting this should get in now whilst the stock is there 'cos it won't be there long at this price!

Sorry Ian, unless i'm doing something wrong (every possibility) i still can't find sound clips. Any and all help appreciated.
You're not doing anything wrong Gogs. I'm a 'lil bit shaky on the Soundcloud link thingy - I need to check that the links are set to public and what quality they'll be blah blah blah. All time-consuming headache-inducing stuff and I haven't quite got around to it yet. I'll try and do it today...
