  1. Great minds think alike ElGeePee....... Ian D
  2. Pete, glad you like my beautiful Todd Rundgren UK Bearsville copy in your avatar! It's for sale if ya want it LOL...... Ian D
  3. Very weird because one would have assumed that Berry Gordy would have got exclusive national rights in '62. It's a William Stevenson song and Jobete copyright so it's absolutely a weird one. Berry Gordy must have given permission for Laurie to issue it. My guess is that was experimenting. Maybe he thought that a hot New York label might have better promotion in the Pop markets? It was 1962 so still early days and long before boom time. Either way there's a story there...... Ian D

  5. Good. To be fair the office is being re-structured so it was a little shaky on the communication front but all looking hunky dory now....... Ian D
  6. Errm, yes my journalistic talents always seem to be in demand whenever Mr Brown goes on a Zoo trip, now you mention it LOL..... Ian D
  7. Yep, you can. I think back issues are £3.00 a pop individually but I persuaded Mike that he should do 4 for a tenner for everyone who needs to chase up back numbers! So if you do 'em in multiples of 4 they're £2.50 per issue which ain't bad. Everyone on Soul Source is welcome to grab some back issues. It's very handing reading and you always go back to 'em LOL.... Protocol is send an e-mail with the required back numbers listed to Mikeritson@aol.com and copy Ian.Dewhirst@btintermet.com as a fail-safe backup LOL. Don't forget all NEW subscriptions must go to Sarbina@passionmusic.co.uk otherwise it'll mess the new system up! How's that for service? Ian D
  8. Yer welcome. Jocko jogged me (sounds like a Jack Black film lol) and I thought Mike should clarify it. So job done touch wood. Ian D
  9. Following a few PM's from various folk and a meeting with the Silver Fox this morning, Mike would like to clarify the procedures for newly subscribing to Manifesto or renewing previous subscriptions. Some renewed subscription forms have failed to arrive and this is now being sorted out with the post office. Plus there have some upheavals in the office and it's possible that some e-mails may have gone astray. So to ensure that everyone is covered, could all interested parties follow the procedures below. Many apologies if the service has been less than efficient but this should sort things out hopefully...... New Subscriptions These can now be ordered instantly via phone, e-mail or standard mail by contacting Sarbina @ Passion Music. c/o Sarbina, Manifesto Subscriptions, Unit 2, Boeing Way, International Trading Estate, Brent Road, Southall, Middlesex, UB2 5LB Tel: +44 (0)20 8867 9361 E-Mail: Sarbina@passionmusic.co.uk Existing Subscription Renewals Please e-mail Mike @ mikeritson@aol.com and renew directly or call him on: +44 (0) 7836 732639. Mike now has access to all his e-mails 24/7 so nothing should slip through the net now. 100 issues in and still going strong! Apologies to anyone who's suffered any hiccups in subscribing. Things should work a lot more smoothly now. Best, Ian D
  10. Or was it Tony.........? It's contagious.......... Ian D
  11. You can get your coat LOL..... Sterling work so far Mel! Ian D
  12. No excuse! I thought you were the arch-deacon of this stuff......? You'll be suggesting that Toby Turner never came out next.......... Ian D
  13. That Jr Walker "Hot Shot" album is the business isn't it? Ian D
  14. OK, folks, following an aborted attempt to feature special guest Paul Thrower on the show a couple of weeks due to failings of a 6 month old Saab, we are in fact pleased to announce that Sir Percy will in act be guesting LIVE today on the Original Mastercuts show! www.starpointradio.com 2.00-4.00pm with Ian Dewhirst, Paul Thrower and Alan Champ. Should be fun! Best, Ian D
  15. Thanks Malc. Blimey. I never realised Pama had some many releases. I never knew that Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" came out on Pama either. Never seen one of those. I think the tune could be unreleased. It's not turning up on the MCPS, BMI or ASCAP databases so it's all a bit of a mystery. I'll post up a sound clip in a day or two and see if anyone can recognise the vocalist. Needless to say, it's storming Northern Soul........ Ian D
  16. I found a few of 'em in LA in '76 and sent 'em over to Neil Rushton. Helluva voice but the production sounded a bit messy for the time but the song's impossible to forget.... Ian D
  17. My mate's just turned up an acetate of a song called "(Home To) My Waiting Woman" written by Arnold Capitanelli and Robert O'Connor who wrote some stuff for Aldora Britton but we can't identify the vocalist and all internet searches are coming up zero. It looks like a Publishers acetate and was found in a box with a load of Pama stuff so I guess we're looking mid to late 60's. Anyone any ideas? Ian D
  18. I think the only rays of light on Radio One in the late 60's were Emperor Rosko who used to slip some nice stuff in his show on Saturday lunchtimes - that's probably where I first heard a few things on national radio. Also I vaguely remember Mike Raven and Dave Symonds doing specialist RnB shows at some point......... Ian D
  19. More tunes(and thats what matters now); You dont have to be lying - Gene Chandler(75?) Its all over Charles Mann (74) No second thoughts - Top shelf (73) Alex Oh yes, and let's not forget "Ella Weez" - Leroy Hutson....... Ian D
  20. What year was "Heaven Is In Your Arms" then? That's the Admirations track I most associate with the Mecca. Snoopy Dean hasn't stood the test of time has it? And where is King Sporty???? Ian D
  21. Totally agree Mel! Only IL could take offence at a thread which actively honours him......you just can't please some people LOL.... Ian D
  22. Well maybe there's case for Major Harris, Seven Souls and Ken Williams but Sandi Sheldon........sheesh? I guess what's really cheesing me off is the amount of promos I've left over the years 'cos they were a few bucks LOL..... Ian D
  23. Sandi Sheldon - You're Gonna Make Me Love You - Okeh promo - £852 I'm stunned. I just wouldn't have thought this was so expensive. FANTASTIC record but I've had at least half a dozen promos over the years. Is it being revived or something? I actually think my UK Epic promo is rarer! Ian D
  24. Simply not true Andy. It's totally a historic Northern Soul venue. The Mecca playlists were 100% Northern from '72-'74 - you only have to look at the old Blues & Soul ads to see that. Post Torch and Pre Wigan it was the No.1 Northern Soul venue in the country and kept the scene going at a key time. If you look at the amount of pure Northern records discovered or played first @ The Mecca, it's way up there in the top 5 venues of all time and I'm pretty sure that most people who were around at that time will agree. When Mel gets his list completed you'll be horrified at the sheer quality of the Northern Soul Mecca discoveries alone! Ian D
  25. I think it was the look of fevered concentration on your face which made me wonder LOL..... Ian D
