  1. "House For Sale" is Modern Soul. It was a new release when first played. Ian D

  3. Phew, just got back from Caister and was just about to relax and slump on the sofa when I realised that I haven't posted the show yet! No rest for the wicked and boy, am I wicked LOL... As per usual we kick off with 30 minutes of uptempo House delights, followed by 30 minutes of absolute gems from the 80's, 30 minutes of Modern/Crossover/General Soul from the 70's this week and finishing off with 30 minutes of pure Soul killers from various eras. Sounds pretty good to these ears, so here's the evidence......... See y'all next week! Best, Ian D
  4. Now tomorrow should be interesting LOL..... There'll be a large contingent of regulars who will be badly hung-over from the excesses of a sunny bank holiday weekend and another contingent who will sleepwalk through the day in a kind of zombie-like state 'cos it's Sunday - the day of rest..... So whether you're still hung-over, lazing around the house/garden doing bugger all or feeling exceptionally fragile laying on the sofa you may as well listen because I specialize in music for people who are in a fragile state........ Music to soothe weary Souls LOL! Coming up tomorrow LIVE @ 2.00pm sharp....... Kenny Bobien * Arnold Jarvis * Be Be Winans * Yolanda Adams * The Sylvers * Wynd Chymes * Skipworth & Turner * The Trammps * Change * Fat Larry's Band " The Moments * Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes feat Sharon Paige * Chairmen Of The Board * Spyder Turner * Vernon Burch * The Lovelites * The Dramatics * Debarge * Ray Parker Jr * Karyn White * The Rock Melons My bank holiday starts with the show and then I'm bombing over to Caister for some Sunday/Monday action! See you @ 2.00! Ian D
  5. Turns out your right Godz! It's all this living in London mate. Every time I step out the door I trip over a Z list celebrity LOL....... Ian D
  6. Cheers Johnny! There are plenty of positives in that it's one of the few magazines which has managed to survive to over 100 issues. If I can get some of the backroom hiccups straightened out things should smooth out hopefully..... Ian D
  7. Hiya Martyn, Photos will a tough call mate. I'm not sure if they're archived once they've been used - it's probably a pretty random system so I wouldn't hold out much hope. I'm trying to trace down a photo of a tatoo at the moment and it's like looking for a needle in a haystack LOL.... Good luck with the mag. Making it to issue 12 is pretty good in this environment so keep it up! Ian D
  8. They're still formulating Baza. What's weird was the sudden drop-off from just below £25K before the auction went private to less then a grand more when the auction closed. I was expecting a some feverish bidding in the 25-50K spectrum between at least a good handfull of bidders (if not 2 or 3 handfuls) but I have to admit that I was completely wrong. Maybe £26K is the limit ay? It's a pretty phenomenal price for a 7" record and a world record but I did think it would go for more. Some Premier League players earn more than that in a week LOL..... Ian D
  9. Mmm. Two more than the rest of us know about. What do you know that every other collector in the world doesn't I wonder? Ian D
  10. Still the most expensive actual manufactured record that can be verified without any shadow of a doubt. So a UK established record whichever you look at it. I was kinda surprised that it tailed off so quickly but I have some thoughts on that....... Ian D
  11. Hi All, Just to let everyone know, I have forwarded each and every PM I've received re Manifesto problems to Mike personally and will hopefully get everything resolved. I've successfully tied up a few problems to date so many thanks for everyone who's dropped me PM's to date to acknowledge that they're now sorted. Hopefully we'll get to grips with the latest batch by mid next week (Mike's been away this week) so if anyone's not sorted by end of play next week, then PM me and I'll stay on it. I'd love to get in the warehouse and sort out the back issues 'cos there's tons of 'em. If Mike will let me in there for a day I can hopefully sort out a stock count on every issue from 1-100 so if anyone's missing any we should be able to sort it touch wood. Great magazine. One of the few I read cover to cover LOL.... Ian D
  12. Lupine did a lot of acetates. I used to find more Lupine acetates around then most other companies but I left most of 'em because when I was digging for records the Lupine stuff was considered RnB or too old at the time. I did find a Primettes acetate though which I flogged to a Belgium collector. I think Lupine was one of the bigger indie labels with a more professional set-up in the late 50's/early 60's so that's why there'll generally be more around. Plus I bet they owned a Mastering studio....... Ian D
  13. It's a combo of the two really though isn't it Steve? Most DJ's kicked off as collectors and went onto deejaying through that, so the majority of DJ's are still inherently collectors even if their public guise is as a 'DJ'. The difference is, as a DJ you're duty bound to entertain a lot of different people so you need a wider range of records to play plus plenty of 'dancefloor certs' to ensure that most people are kept happy. So most DJ's need a bigger selection of records but they should still have their own unique records or one-offs which defines their set. Ian D
  14. Any probs with none deliveries, back issues etc, then please PM me and I'll look into each case individually and attempt to sort 'em out. That'll be the quickest route to resolving any problems I reckon. Best, Ian D
  15. Just clearing down some albums, so I'll put 'em here first. If anyone wants to order a few I'll throw in either free postage or some discount so PM me......... 17. Many thanks to all for listening and being such a lively audience! I ended up partying on in the studio for another couple of hours, got back, ate a roast and collapsed until I just woke up and hey presto the download link was ready! Perfect timing..... Well it was another beautiful Sunday afternoon @ Starpoint Towers so I did what any self respecting Soul fan does on hot lazy sunny afternoon - namely loaded up with beers and tunes and had a ball! Tried a few tricky mixes out in the 80's section too but I won't be trying that every week - too much co-ordination required when I should be slaking beers and relaxing LOL..... So welcome to another rollicking two hours of musical highlights from the last 4 decades so heeeeeere's this week's soundtrack.......... 19. I'm joined this Saturday (25th April) by guest Geoff Green, a veteran of the London soul club movement. Geoff will be talking about his memories of the original 1960's clubs such as The Scene (in Soho), taking us through Northern and Modern soul, and bringing us right up to the present day with current events such as Soul Essence and Filthy Soul. Ian Dewhirst will also be joining the fun, and throwing in a few tricky questions, so expect a feast of soulful music and fascinating reminiscences. I hope you can join us, as this should be pretty interesting! 3.00-5.00pm on www.starpointradio.com! Alan Champ
  20. Cheers Daryl. Much obliged. See you in October if I don't bump into you before! Best, Ian D
  21. Yep, I have the vinyl but need an MP3 for some sequencing I'm doing for the radio show so just wondered if anyone could send me an MP3? I think it was on the Phil-LA Of Soul comp that came out last year if anyone has it handy.......... Many thanks in advance. Ian D
  22. No. I think that particular outfit must be reserved for the 'Simon' club.......... Ian D
  23. Great stuff Sean! I'm re-discovering the later Chairmen Of The Board stuff and knocked out with some of it - love "The Bottom Line" and "Bless Your Heart" too...... Monday's on Starpoint is livening up nicely! Ian D
  24. Send me the stuff Carl! This sounds just the ticket........ Ian D
