  3. Funnily enough he was on TV AM last year on one of the rare occasions when I happened to be watching and they invited viewers to e-mail with any questions so I actually sent 'em an e-mail asking about "Can't Help Loving You" but they declined to answer me LOL....a shame as it would've been interesting to get a response. To this day it's still one of the greatest orchestrated productions I've ever heard........ If only the Invitations had been singing it instead....... Ian D
  4. Please give him my regards next time you talk to him. The last time I bumped into Andy was in a record shop in Camden in the 80's. He was always an intelligent guy as was Psycho from Leeds, who was my best mate in the 80's but I haven't seen hide nor hair of either of 'em since......... Ian D
  5. Paul Anka "I Can't Help Loving You" Dean Parrish "Determination", "Tell Her" and "Bricks, Broken Bottles & Sticks" Bobby Paris "Personally" and "Night Owl" Sharon Macmahon "Get Out Of My Life" and "When Will Love Come To Me" Dusty Springfield "Son Of A Preacher Man" and "What's It Gonna Be" Ian D
  6. Loads. That was half the fun when records were cheap enough that you could take some chances. Best period was the early 70's when you could buy 20 U.S. cut-out 45's for a quid or get Soul Packs for a similar price! Some I have bought blind include Willie Hutch "The Duck"/"Love Runs Out", Lenny Curtis "Nothing Can Help You Now", Al DeLory "Right On", The Pointer Sisters "Send Him Back", Ronnie & Robyn "As Long As You Love Me (I'll Stay)", Si Hightower "I Know You're Leaving Me", Clyde McPhatter album with "Please Give Me One More Chance" etc, etc.... Ian D

  8. That wouldn't be the notorious Andy Wilson from Harrogate would it? He of the long black leather coat, curly hair, constant dribble and uncompromising attitude would it................? Ian D
  9. Yes, what an absolute pile of crud that was. I remember being in Los Angeles when it came out and watching all these poor black people rushing to the stores to get hold of a copy as the stores couldn't keep the shelves stocked up fast enough as it was the fastest-selling Motown album of all time. What on earth were they thinking? I remember thinking when I heard the lyrics to "Knocks Me Off My Feet" that you'd have to be blind to get away with lyrics like that...... Ian D
  10. Cheers Malc! I said I'd post this a week ago but got overwhelmed with other stuff so mucho thanks! Best, Ian D
  11. He won't go far wrong with the Wheel, Torch, Mecca, Wigan albums for the obvious ones from the early era as they're probably a good place to start - they've done incredibly well - at the last count they were up to 40k apiece - 160k total which is incredible in the current market, so they're pretty popular. However, they only reflect the Sony/BMG back catalogue so I'd add some of the obvious Kent and Goldmine releases plus that 'Soul Satisfaction' CD from Universal is pretty good too...... Ian D
  12. Yep, loving the full record Phil. Now that I've heard the whole thing I take back the 'messy' comment. True 100% Northern Soul mate! First legal release on "I Still Love You" too! Ian D
  13. Back in the Summer groove this week with another 2 hours of intoxicating Soul delights from across the eras! A perfect soundtrack for a Sunny Sunday afternoon or anytime in fact! As per usual we kick off with 30 minutes of uptempo House delights, followed by 30 minutes of absolute gems from the 80's, 30 minutes of Modern/Crossover/General Soul from the 70's this week and finishing off with 30 minutes of pure Soul killers from various eras. 14. Slammin' on the repeat right now 5.00-7.00pm nicely lining up Ockers @ 7.00pm! Tune into www.starpointradio.com....... Ignore the quality on the first 2 tracks - I managed to rip 'em wrong. Everything else is just fine! Download + Playlist will be posted later tonight! Ian D
  15. Surely Darrell Banks "Open The Door To Your Heart"/"Our Love Is In The Pocket" is hard to beat from an old school perspective...... Ian D
  16. Excuse me but I couldn't help noticing that your avatar shows a baby committing an act of mindless violence against the Carstairs. Is this the result of indoctrination or did said baby actually choose to follow this path of wanton destruction? Ian D
  17. Wow. Look at that? For once I actually agree with Beeks. Ian D
  18. The Uncoverers was a 70's TV sitcom starring Tony Curtis and Roger Moore I believe......... Ian D
  19. It's very confusing to me actually. Modern seems to have a zillion definitions these days. I'd class early to mid 70's Modern as Modern Oldies these days, late 70's and 80's releases as Modern and 90's and 00's as Contemporary personally........ But, hey. What the hell do I know........ Ian D
  20. Nah Kev. That Modern lot are worse than you lot! Ian D
  21. It's a bitch to mix with Kenny Bobien though......... Ian D
  22. Bit dangerous that though Davie. A few too many 60's hangovers slipped out in the early 70's to be quite so cut and dried I think. James Lewis and the Case Of Tyme or Johnny Howard modern? Don't think so........ I reckon what's really needed is a proper definition of Modern Soul - I haven't heard a decent definition of it in 40 years........ Ian D
  23. Couldn't agree more RB. Plus I'm not sure that people can even define Modern Soul LOL....fact is that so-called 'Modern Soul' has always been played at 'Northern' venues since the scene began. When I came on the scene "This Is The House Where Love Died" - First Choice, "Keep On Keeping On" - N.F. Porter and "Time's A Wasting" - The Fuller Brothers were all new releases....... Ian D
