  2. Talking of making people smile and continuing a run of UK Soul hits, this one made No.1 in the UK and did jack-shit anywhere else! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1lMcPrJysI Ian D
  3. And 60's Funfairs bounced along to this........ Ian D

  6. Close. July '73. All aboard the Dodgems......... Ian D
  7. Will make those sleeve notes even more poignant now mate. RIP Willie...... Ian D
  8. Also there's an H.B. Barnum connection as H.B. was a Capital in-house producer at the time hence the probable reason why the Tina Mason version was recorded. I found the first copy of Judy Street less than 1/2 a mile from the Capital Records building in L.A. too! If H.B. Barnum hadn't been on the credits I may well have passed it by as it was in amongst 1000's of Pop crap (which a lot of people would argue is exactly what "What" is LOL........) Ian D
  9. Well, I'm renowned for my immense appendage so there would have been a few too many records to comfortably fit within the limited amount of space available. I did manage to snag a Lada Edmund Jr, a Johnny Caswell, a Sweet Three and a few other choice bits. Had to sneak in during a lunch break, so in and out within 30 minutes which is the story of my life.......... Ian D
  10. Oh and lest I forget, my nomination for favorite Al Green dancer is the wonderful "Everything Is OK" - Ashley Beedle Re-Edit on RCA which is just brilliant.... ....this ain't bad either....... Ian D
  11. I think the next loads of untapped vinyl are likely to come from some of the bigger Publishing houses who will be digitizing their music files and probably dumping their vinyl samples (which none of 'em can play anyway because no record/publishing companies possess record players anymore LOL)..... ....certainly quite a few of the UK publishers have vinyl archives which no one can be bothered with anymore. I saw a couple of these archives in the late 80's and they held all manner of stuff including plenty of U.S. 45's which their U.S. affiliates sent over...... ....I managed to get into the original Decca/London archives in the mid 70's and that was amazing! A full room with 7" U.S. and U.K. vinyl racked out from floor to ceiling. I found many of the bigger U.S. Decca, Coral, Brunswick releases there at the time....... ...also the last time I was in New York I got offered 150,000 45's which had been filtered out of one of the U.S. sound archives, so there are untapped vinyl stashes out there so keep your eyes and ears open 'cos that's where the next hit will be from IMO....... Ian D
  12. Mmmm, a couple which are new to me...... "Nothing Impossible With Love" is a great sing-a-long traditional Northern mid-tempo from "Listen: The Rarities" album.... .....however my favorite today is the FANTASTIC Modern 80's belter "When Love Rules" from the "Higher Plane" album. Sounds like a winner to me..... Ian D
  13. OK, I'll go one better today then LOL.... I'm now surrounded with every Al Green Hi era release ever recorded (I work for Demon which helps), so I'm gonna burn down everything that's on this thread and do a general trawl anyway 'cos you never know what's buried away or on the original tapes and you just know there'll be a few more socked away somewhere..... .... talking of which I've just listened to his interpretations of "Ain't Mountain High Enough" and "Up The Ladder To The Roof" which are interesting......... I'll report back if anything incredible emerges..... Ian D
  14. So many shouts I'm halfway tempted to do a release of the Al Green S.S. faves! Anyone up for it? Name checks and fame for life for those involved..... Ian D
  15. Yep, Russ. I have 3 different version/re-edits of this but I've never learnt how to upload to Refosoul 'cos it's too clunky. If you PM me your e-mail addy I'll thwack 'em through. There's bootlegs aplenty out there as it was the closing record @ Paradise Garage and a major Larry Levan fave........she's actually slightly flat in places but it's a great record.......... Ian D
