  1. But that's the nature of the collecting beast innit Pete? Most collectors are slightly nuts anyway aren't they? Ian D
  2. Mmmm. Child of the 60's perchance are we Theresa? Ian D
  3. Deffo a freebie for you Theresa if you drop me a PM with your address my dear. (Note: this is only open to Surrey housewives who've spent the child benefit this month OK?). Good thinking on adding details to the You Tube clips - I'll add it the never ending list! Got any more jobs for me whilst you're at it Ian D
  4. Out on Monday and now available @ Amazon for £6.99 inc postage! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jumpin-Anni...87483076&sr=1-3 Ian D
  5. I've heard 3 unreleased Charles Drain's including the nifty version of "Lifetime Guarantee On Love" but I think you may have heard the other ones which I'm told are exceptional. I'd better get on the case! It makes you wonder where the rest of the pressing runs went on Otis Williams and the Hypnotics doesn't it? Probably in landfill somewhere near St Louis by the sound of it............ Ian D
  6. Yep. We did a special one-off 500 press 7" of "Can't Take It With You"/"Gamble On Love" in 2005 which long since sold out. Ian D

  11. No probs. I'l be posting a link of the show up on Monday. For anyone who can catch the show, I'll be playing both "Take Me Back" and "I Got To Have You" at around 3.20pm today on www.starpointradio.com. Ian D .
  12. Yep, playing that @ 3.00pm Dave. Also I was going through stuff and got to Harrison Kennedy's "I'm In Love Darling" which sounds like it's actually Norman on lead! Decided to save it for a week or two to prevent any confusion but I'd swear that it's actually the General....... I seem to be doing these mini-tribute shows all the bloody time these days - Luther, Levi, Michael and now the general. Sad times..... And I'll second the 'Artist of the Week' nomination. Ian D
  13. OK, a Normal 'General' Johnson Original Mastercuts mini-tribute coming up LIVE @ 2.00pm today......... This week, another one of our heroes, Norman 'General' Johnson from the Showmen and Chairmen Of The Board passed away so naturally I'll be doing my level best to do a 'lil Original Mastercuts tribute to one of the most distinctive and enduring voices in Soul Music history. If you have a dry eye by the end of the show you won't be the only one 'cos this guy was one of the soundtracks to my youth. R.I.P. Norman. We love ya. 14. Well, generally around this time of the year I'd normally be careering around the Prestatyn Weekender dipping my toe into all the different rooms. However, once again I've managed to come down with my usual bi-annual dose of killer flu due to 80% of London coughing and spluttering in my face every 3 minutes! So I flirted with the idea but I think it was the prospect of a 12 hour return drive, 48 hours of no sleep and 2 days of dining at the Beachcomber which put paid to this year's excursion. So I put a show together instead. Plus, this week, another one of our heroes, Norman 'General' Johnson from the Showmen and Chairmen Of The Board passed away so naturally I'll be doing my level best to do a 'lil Original Mastercuts tribute to one of the most distinctive and enduring voices in Soul Music history. If you have a dry eye by the end of the show you won't be the only one 'cos this guy was one of the soundtracks to my youth. R.I.P. Norman. We love ya. Anyway, an absolutely BELTING show this week folks with the usual pick of the best new releases, killer re-edits, creative remixes, 80's gems, Northern classics, some undersung and relatively unknown beautiful mellow gems, an alternative Charles Drain take on a classic and both the A and B sides of the unbelievable Otis Williams release from 1979 - the best 70's double-sider I think I've ever heard and totally unknown until J. Soulsmith dug it up! This is what we live for innit? The Original Mastercuts Show with Ian Dewhirst LIVE this Sunday 17th October 2010 between 2.00-4.00pm on everyone's favourite Soul station www.starpointradio.com. Featuring......... 15. Yeah, for sure it ranks big time - probably around 5th for me, after the four I just mentioned. Out of the 60's cuts, Brenda does it for me. In fact I have a different mix from the You Tube clip which is much better. Brenda's version is the best for me from the 60's, but overall Randy Crawford's version is the ultimate killer for me. Ian D
  16. The Brenda Holloway version is THE definitive 60's version of this song........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R749k3fgr1g But Stevie's later version is OK too.... However, the Four Tops version has it's merits also......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlVpM5Jt2Gc But the Randy Crawford version is the ultimate killer for me........ But not on You Tube...... Ian D
  17. Well, it's been a pretty heavy week one way and another. The Chairmen Of The Board and General Johnson were very much the soundtrack to my youth in the early 70's and I'm blessed to still be working with their music some 40 years later. As per usual, when something like this happens, I go into 're-listen' mode and re-discover all the quality and nuances of the music that inspired me as I was growing up. Norman 'General' Johnson is 100% absolutely up their with the greats - certainly one of the most distinctive vocalists in Soul music history. Plus he spanned a career that lasted 50 years which is incredible. To think he's been knocking 'em dead on the Beach Music scene for the last 20 years is just brilliant and underlines his durability and appeal to all ages. So obviously I'm gonna do a General Johnson tribute on this Sunday's LIVE Original Mastercuts show, Sunday afternoon 2.00-4.00pm on www.starpointradio.com. I'll be slipping in all stages of his career from the mid 60's to the mid 00's and unleashing an exclusive killer re-edit on one of his late 70's underheard killers. This one's for Norman. And yes. Ignore any sceptics. "Bless Your Heart" is one of the greatest Soul records ever made. Ian D
  18. I was in talks a couple of months ago to bring a across a whole Invictus/Hot Wax package with Freda Payne/C.O.T.B/Honey Cone and the Holland brothers but, as always, money and logistics were proving problematic. A major shame. Ian D
  19. Someone said Lamont's doing Southport didn't they? Should've be Prestatyn surely. Ian D
  20. Also there's a rip from the radio show on Ian Nichol's blog:- https://puresoulforthelessenergetic.blogspot.com/2010/10/pure-soul-106-60s-70s-80s-and-now.html Track 088 on the latest Pure Soul 106. Ian D
  21. Great call Dave. You can hear the Earth, Wind & Fire influences can'tcha? I can totally envision you listening to this after a hard days digging in Alabama LOL. I actually think this would work with some of the Funk guys too. Lovely track mate! Ian D
  22. Not many people know this and it isn't officially noted anywhere but Pat was also one of the key vocalists on "Uptown Festival" by Shalamar. The song was recorded at Ike & Tina Turner's Bolic Sound Studio in East L.A. in the autumn of 1976 and, as a former Ikette and good friend of Ike & Tina, Pat came to the studio and joined Andrea and Gary - the other two uncredited vocalists who were featured on this million-seller. Wonderful lady. Ian D

  24. I got spoiled after seeing Sam & Dave @ Sheffield Fiesta in 1972. I thought all acts would be up to that standard but it turns out they were the best act I've ever seen. It couldv'e been the sheer impact of seeing an act like that as my first proper live performance at the age of 17. It's not like their records were ever personal favorites either but boy could those guys give a show......... Ian D
  25. I'm playing it on this Sunday's show @ around 3.10pm if that's any good - www.starpointradio.com otherwise you can grab the download from next Monday........ Ian D
