  1. I'll second that. Some of those Selectadisc pressings were out before we even knew the records in some cases..... Ian D
  2. That makes even more sense. Yep, it's gotta be that one as he was at Polydor in that period with Arpeggio. Will You Tube it when I get to the office and check..... Good call. The Carole Lynn Townes record was pushing it even for him lol..... Ian D
  3. Yeah, that's probably the one dammit. Bloody awful but he likes brash bold songs........ Carol Lynn Townes "99 And A Half Won't Do" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvzV0RnEPf0 No wonder I couldn't place it lol..... Well spotted that man! Ian D
  4. Larry Atkins I reckon.....? Ian D
  5. I think he's better off being slightly unreachable and enigmatic personally and I have the feeling he'll be perfectly happy with that. It suits him for a number of reasons I think. It's obvious he still has his taste for Northern Soul but also lots of other stuff too. Plus he's much more up-to-date with some below the radar singers then I am for sure, so he's still listening to lots of diverse stuff. I haven't communicated with him but he's thrown a few titles around, so the old fox is still active lol. I thought he was dead or in a Jewish version of a monastery or something....... He did seem to want an MP3 of a song called "99 And A Half Wont Do" by a black girl group that I feel I should know but don't. Does that ring any bells with anyone on here (I don't think it's the Wilson Picket song....? Mind you, with a title like that, it could be another "Reaching For The Best" wind-up......... Ian D
  6. Wigan Casino. Came through at roughly the same time as the Casualeers..... Ian D
  7. New one on me but I checked it because of the title and, lo and behold, it's a cover of the fantastic Bobby Hutton tune from the Piece Of The Action album....... The Supremes "It's All Been Said Before" Bobby Hutton "It's All Been Said Before" Ian D
  8. Nope. Blackpool Mecca was on it from the beginning from 1973. Especially the last hour between 1.00-2.00am. Ian D
  9. Yep. Ripple was a Floyd Smith production. I don't think relations were that good between Floyd and Salsoul at the time, so my guess is that Floyd did a bit of 'creative recycling' on the backing track and put it out in Chicago only and kept it it on the down-low..... Ian D
  10. Nope. Salsoul did (I ran all the Salsoul reissues in 2004-2006 so was privy to the paperwork). Ian D
  11. Probably one of the first examples of creative sampling although the reality is that the Ripple backing track was essentially bootlegged from Salsoul as they would never have licensed it out at that time. It's probably the reason why it's so obscure. Ripple "The Beat Goes On And On" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFEq4Aku6Rs Ian D
  12. I don't think I've ever seen an issue of Ken Williams "Come Back" come to think of it..... Ian D
  13. Yep, I think you're right Rick. Ian D
  14. No thanks Martyn. It'll just depress me...... Ian D
  15. Point taken Robb but this was unknown in the U.K. at the time as Kev found the stack and didn't know it. A perfect example of a mid 70s Northern Soul monster by the way. Lots of copies turned up reasonably quick as Roulette was well distributed. Soussan's 30 copies would have immediately gone to DJs in the UK within weeks. Ian D
  16. That's the sucker Rick! Well done for preserving that. Whenever his new lists appeared they certainly got talked about, You had to take everything with a pinch of salt really but then he'd hit you with a left-fielder that was real. You haven't got the list with Bob Relf "Reaching For The Best" on have you? Ian D
  17. I went round to his place in '76 but didn't notice any undue security. Nice guy who they called 'Disco Bob' over there. He did seem to disappear from view quite quickly, so I always wondered what happened to him....? Ian D
  18. It shows you that most records pressed by Pressing plants are just mere numbers on a never-ending production run....... And was it 500 you found? That would have kept you in golf clubs for a while..... Ian D
  19. He had a tight relationship with Monarch and generally supplied some kind of paperwork to them for most stuff on the odd couple of occasions I went down there with him. I mean he pressed Joe Hicks there on a styrene re-press even though they still had multiple copies of the original in the back which Arthur Fenn found several years later. Plus he could pretty much talk anyone into anything back then it seemed....... Ian D
  20. She's actually a big Northern Soul fan. Has been for quite a while. She actually requested some of the early Backbeats Northern Soul volumes a few years back long before the film....... Ian D
  21. It wasn't particularly financial problems as I've had those all my life lol. It was lack of space problems morr than anything. I had to climb over 3 rows of albums to get into bed and 1000s of 45s were stacked in the cupboard under the stairs (much like now). I was a vinyl junky for a long long time..... Ian D
  22. Did anyone ever read that old list of his that talked about the 'Soulclap' club in Los Angeles with 400 Northern Soul fans who loved stompers? Needless to say it didn't exist......... Ian D
  23. That's a lot of scanning Steve! It'd be interesting to see what future crossover gems were on there for mere pence though, as painful as that could be........ Ian D
  24. Actually, that Heinsight record sounds better now then it did back then. A nice funky approach to an all-time classic which would probably sort today's audience more than the mid 70s one. I wish someone would dig out my Vinyl Junky record list/book. That was 60+ pages from memory......... Ian D
  25. I'd completely forgotten about that Intrepids track until I re-read the list. Just reminded myself of it on You Tube and stunned to see it on a pre-Cotillion label.......great name for a label though! The Intrepids - To Make You Love Me Nite Beat And the Chaumonts sounds feasible as I did have that for a while...... Ian D
