Yep, the machine appears to be working like a dream! Both of these are consistent best-sellers for the series, week in week out. Last week's sales on both titles were the best since they came out in July! I think a whole new audience is discovering the delights of Southern Soul plus export figures are fantastic too - as an example you can actually find these two albums racked in the French chain Fnac throughout Xmas 'cos they love 'em over there as well. Sometimes the truth is unpalatable Arkwright. When I pointed out to Southern Rail that 'signal failure' no longer cuts it with people like me on a daily basis, they just came clean and admitted that the trains are f*cked for the forseeable future and unlikely to get any better anytime soon. Fair enough. I took that to my boss last week and got flexi-time as a result. Which is great and long overdue. Basic infrastructure problems as a result of poor planning and under investment will dog us for the forseeable future. If Royal Mail vans can't deliver mail because the roads are unsafe and postmen can't deliver mail because the pavements are unsafe, then we'll just have to live with slow deliveries by the looks of it. Can't remember it ever being as bad as this though. Y'know in the days when we got two posts per day whatever the weather......... Ian D

It's all gone to shit over here Bob. Nothing's working properly. We're not geared up for ongoing sub zero arctic-like conditions so basically everything grinds to a hault. I think Royal Mail currently has a backlog of 4,000,000 packages from the last big freeze 2 weeks ago and now all the online delivery companies are saying they can't guarantee delivery before Xmas within the UK due to the new big freeze which came in yesterday. I was meant to be in Hull tonight but the roads are just completely f*cked over here so I didn't get any further than 10 miles from my house in 2 hours. Almost pointless going out. All the local shops have run out of milk because people are panic buying. It's a mess. So things ain't exactly whippersnapper. It could be a while before those packages come through. Yep, one of those threads you can really get your teeth into. I just re-read the last page and had completely forgotten some of these stories. Hopefully Andy Dyson will scour the thread again and see if there's anything there for the forthcoming book. I'm actually gonna re-read it over the holidays. A l'il Xmas treat for sure and I'd implore anyone who's new to Soul Source to give it a read 'cos a lot of this is really the essence of what rare Soul collecting is all about. OK. The group are called 'The Sons Of Robin Stone' so I was wondering who their dad was, i.e. Mr Robin Stone. Who was he? Why did he have so many kids? Did he mind his name being used? Was he proud of his sons? Etc, etc, etc. So who was Robin Stone is the question I guess................ Ian D

I wouldn't worry too much SE19SOUL. I was born in 1955 and always considered that I was born 10 years too late. Fact of the matter is that it's all relative. I perfectly fitted the point I came into it all anyway, as I suspect everyone after me did. It's just evolution. Whilst I'm slightly frustrated that I could never witness the Mojo, the Wheel, the Scene, the Bag O' Nails or the Scotch Of St James first hand in the 60's, I still lived through an incredible period in cultural history at the point where I came in and luckily I'm still alive to document it. I just wanna make sure that everything is stitched together properly. The UK has always been a supporter of US Black Music but the Northern Soul scene took things to a whole different level entirely and that tradition has carried through to this day. So, if anything, Wigan Casino arguably did more to spread rare and obscure Soul Music to the masses then most other factors in the mid 70's. It put Northern Soul on the world map and in my opinion that should be applauded. Ian D

Ah, that makes sense then. Texas appeared to be cleaned out when I went in '89. I spent a few days there on both ends of a 6 week trip but didn't find much. Had great hits in Little Rock, Decatur, Des Moines, St Louis, Chicago and Madison though...... Ian D

Couldn't have put it better myself. Beautiful description Dave and bang on the money. Bought the first copy of the Tomangoes off Kev in the record bar and boy was I sweating that night! Bought the second copy of the Detroit Executives off Russ on the stage and couldn't believe my luck. Never did get that Invitations off Snowy but I've lost count of the hundreds of killer tunes I did get in that record bar from 50p to a couple of quid a pop. It was a vinyl fix every week. Sometimes, after I'd done a deal, I used to go upstairs by myself and sit by the edge of the balcony and just soak up the atmospherem watch those 1500 people dancing and feel a real glow of contentment that I was on the most happening scene in the world. And right there, at that moment in time, I was! Ian D

The original quote doesn't make much sense to me. If you trace the scene right back to early wheel days you'll find that there's always been oddball records played - no one club had the exclusivity on great records that's for sure. Also every 5 years or so brings a different turnover of people. I too knew original Wheel and Torch goers who didn't particularly like Wigan but I also know equally as many that loved it. My personal feelings are that Wigan was pretty hard to beat in those first two or three years but went off the boil a bit post '75.......... Ian D

Wow. I can't believe the coverage the 100 Club has been getting on both ITV and BBC news today. Tremendous stuff! Ronnie Wood and Mick Taylor from the Stones rolled out and got all the press and TV coverage and the slots were great and were obviously heartfelt pleas to take the issue seriously. Whoever organised this deserves a pat on the back. This has propelled the issue into the mainstream and given the media a good angle and a good cause to promote in the season of goodwill. Excellent PR and this could really help the situation. Watch the papers tomorrow! And expect some press types at the next Northern event! All good! Ian D
