The next thing she'll be wanting is to have us remove all the red jelly beans from her rider....... Can't help thinking there's a massive amount of organisations dedicated to collecting less and less money though various channels. Can't it all be amalgamated I ask myself? Stevie Cee. I'm known him a few years as a Souly but never realised he worked @ PRS until last week! I think he works on the magazine.....? Mmm. That's weird. I could have sworn that someone quite established in publishing told me that performers can claim via the PRS for any record they've performed on in almost any capacity? Me too LOL. I've never made jack-shit from publishing but I have been scalped a few times. I think Paul actually put it in perspective with comment on the royalty rates and Ady reminded me that a Top 100 compilation album these days sounds much better than the reality (once a promoter, always a promoter LOL). Royalty rates are abysmal these days so there's not a lot in the pot with declining CD sales anyway but I didn't realise you were already kinda connected. I presume you'll aready be registered with everyone in that case. Looks like we'll have to get you over for some more live gigs then by the looks of it! Ian D X

Well you're on plenty of legit releases for sure. Here's a few, but it's best to work from the MCPS database to check everything that's been issued (they're not all here for instance):- https://www.discogs.com/artist/Lorraine+Chandler?noanv=1#t=Appearances_All&q=&p=1 Well I think if you register all the songs you've performed on with the PRS in the UK, then you're entitled to claim artist royalties for any album you've appeared on or any song released as far as I'm aware. Quite a few Detroit musicians (the Just Brothers for instance) recently signed-up and collected accrued income from this area. Paul Mooney on this thread knows all the ins and outs better than I do so he could probably explain things more accurately plus I can put you in touch with someone @ the PRS (a Soul fan as it happens) who'll take you through the process. Let me know and I'll PM you a couple of contact numbers which could be useful OK? At the very least you should be getting some publishing income from over here anyway - you might need to chase your publishers as well Lorraine. I think you'd be surprised Lorraine. The world's got a lot smaller than it was 35 years ago and now your records are known worldwide. Don't forget they've been used on countless compilation CD's many of which have been exported throughout the world! In fact I just used "I Can't Hold On" and "I Can't Change" on a top 100 album released just the other week (an official Sony release by the way). You can even have a listen again or buy a digital version of your own - but I'll send you a copy so you don't have to....send me your address and I'll get you some copies..... Haha LOL. That kinda reminds me of when J.J. Barnes came over in the mid 70's and did "Please Let Me In" at Keighley Variety Club as his first song and before he could even start singing the audience were way ahead of him and he was just blown away that they knew the tune better than him. He was actually in tears.......it must have been hard for him to comprehend....... It's kind of unbelievable really isn't it? I often wonder what goes through the artists minds when they come here and suddenly realise that a U.S. flop is actually a massively loved anthem on the Northern Soul scene. Hi Lorraine, Welcome aboard and many thanks for engaging with the most committed fans in the world. Obviously we love you! I wish I'd had a video camera when I closed a particularly packed all-nighter at Cleethorpes Pier @ 8.00am in the morning with "I Can't Change" when the record was at it's zenith sometime around 1975/76. If you can imagine 2,000 people dancing their hearts out to your record and the sound of the pier shaking to the reverberation of 4,000 stomping feet, so much so, that the sound could be heard for a 5 mile radius all around Cleethorpes, then you'll get some idea of how much your recordings are held in esteem over here! I still get a shiver down my spine and a beautiful memory every time I hear the record some 35 years later! A memory to cherish forever. Now that you're here don't be a stranger! Ian D X

Well, he's completely upped the horns and strings in the mix which I guess covers the bass a bit more. My guess is that he's always had the master tape and done slightly different mixes for each release - Goldspot, GAR and this album. Ian D

Well, it doesn't end with the acappella background vocals like the GAR single which is a shame but overall the mix is much brighter and I love the strings...... Ian D

Mmmm. Seems like a real oddity this one. A Kenny Smith LP called "One More Day" 1965-73 from 1973 which features a completely different mix of "Lord What's Happening To Our People" called "Lord What's Happened". This mix has strings on it and sounds like a much fuller production than the single. Anyone come across this? Ian D

If I was rich, I'd buy 'em in a second. I think anyone would be unlikely to amass a similar collection in that sort of condition again and it would probably take 20 years to pick 'em all up if you could.
