  1. Whoops. I just assumed that Sam would play it somewhere and he mentioned Thorne at the time. Back to the original question then..... Ian D
  2. That makes sense. I had what I believe was the first copy which I found in L.A. in '76 and that went straight onto the shelves. Over the following years I had a procession of DJs and collectors over and none of them knew it so I knew it was pretty rare but I didn't want to sell it so the copy stayed on the shelves. Sam finally got it off me, I believe in '89, which was the period when Thorne was thriving I think and thus the record got it's second lease of life around then. Ian D
  3. True. I remember the week he got it 'cos it was the topic of conversation in the cafe on the pier. It wasn't covered at that point because I remember being skeptical about the title "Whiskey Talking" but "Nervous Breakdown" sounded a better bet. I've got to say that neither side did much for me..... Ian D
  4. I won't be at the June do but possibly the one after that. I'll speak to Steve and see when the next one is and see if I can plan a trip. Ian D
  5. Hi Fred, Talking of which, where's Chris gone these days? I haven't seen him since the early 90s either..... What is it with these disappearing guys ay? Ian D
  6. Mmmm. A really interesting phenomenon seems to be happening unless I'm going nuts. This is the second time in the last few weeks that I've seen a track from this album covered-up and selling for big money. The first one was the Billy Womack c/u for £500 and now the Southside Movement c/u for £1000. Makes me wonder if someone bought the CD and then found the singles and covered 'em or just co-incidence since both songs are pretty good, although not the best on the album by far). Compiled by our own Greg Belson with Dave Hill. Corker of an album and still in stock though will be deleted later this year. Just buy it! CD1 1. 7. I just caught that Greg. In fact, I'm gonna re-boost the Holy Spirit thread 'cos that's two big cover-ups from the same album in the space of a couple of weeks, which seems a bit co-incidental doesn't it? I thought it was you selling off doubles LOL..... Ian D
  8. The last time they played an instrumental! The hand-claps were an integral part of the scene at one time.... Ian D
  9. Sorry madame. Deffo not into counterfeit records that have been pritt-sticked with false labels. Designed to deceive. I used to be called Frankie too....... Ian D
  10. Or even Sam Cooke as Simon White astutely pointed out.....
  11. Says the guy with a counterfeit name. Unless of course your actual name is Frankie Crocker in which case I apologise unreservedly. Ian D
  12. New to me and what a great voice! Sounds strangely familiar to me but L'il Michael is coming up blank. Could this be a pseudonym I wonder....? L'il Michael "She Swept Me Off My Feet" Ian D
  13. How can something be an unknown cover-up when it's been freely available on CD for the last 3 years (as Mike Lofthouse just handily pointed out). https://www.amazon.co.uk/Holy-Spirit-Spiritual-Soul-Gospel/dp/B007O3VO2Y Ian D
  14. They must have kept a tape of it then because all the Deep Beats CDs were mastered from tapes (I compiled the series). I think it's the only legit version available since it was originally issued..... https://www.discogs.com/Various-Essential-60s-Northern-Soul-Dancefloor-Classics-Volume-1/release/1008047 Ian D
  15. Well, it's rarer than most records in this thread I think. Probably only a handful of copies at the most. Tim paid me £100 25 years ago and it was just a very oddball rarity back then. Ian D
  16. I hit London with Phil in the early 70s and we found that GREAT electrical shop in Brick Lane which was one that ordered everything. He got a Carl Douglas on U.A. before I thought to ask for it......... Ian D
  17. That's a rare record. Sold mine to Tim Brown in the 80s and I've never seen it since. Ian D
  18. Yep. We probably got stung more than anyone when you add it up. However, I'm sure S.S. got screwed by Soultrain. That whole thing was just a circle of sharks wasn't it? Ian D
  19. Had you ever heard it out before it was booted Neil? I was wondering where it was ever played? Ian D
  20. Yep, both fascinating in their own ways. I LOVE the fact that Kenny Gamble had no idea who B.K. Marcus was lol....... Ian D
  21. Not at this point Quinvy. It's sold as a complete package and is selling well so no point in tinkering at the moment. The interviews are a pretty integral part of the whole thing..... Ian D
  22. Stop moaning. You got it 7 weeks ahead didntcha...? Ian D
  23. Now THAT is a bargain! This has never stopped selling since it was issued 7 weeks ago. Looks like it's in for the long haul! Good spot Steve! Ian D
