never had a prob with 'esnipe'...£15 credit seems to last for ages...or maybe thats cos im too tight/skint to win 9 out of 10 tunes i go for and you only use up credit when you win dean
-
same hear back 'on the scene ' after long break doin other things..when i went to kings hall for the first time 6/7 years back thought wow!...now only do it in july...prefer nights that add to my wants list some people still wanna hear new tunes (like they did when they were younger)but yes most wanna hear the same old because thats 'normal'...like the dads dancin at weddings to the music they grew up with...its just when those oldies soulies were growing up they were lucky enuff to have discovered northern.. as for the topic..yes too many nights..but there is no answer...just do your thing and hope its good enuff to pull in a crowd, you cant force people to come or like the 'styles' you do ,most of all ' have a good time'...not worth falling out with people over! dean

how sickening when youre sure it will be there when you get home...and it isnt.. got the tempests lp and my second biggest want for four years 'when he speaks' dianne elliot coming..just prqaying they make it in one piece now! dean
-
another shout for the tempests..also the slow version of i surrender/eddie holman.... baby dont you weep ....wilson pickett...or was that also on a euro 7?
-
and for those who think its wrong what would you do if you were on the floor dancin your arse off to something you didnt know....ran to the decks to find shock horror it pitched up a whole +2!!!...does that mean all of a sudden you wouldnt like it ?...and wish you'd never have heard it?...cos thats just odd
-
ive pitched up and down and will always do so....only by +-2.....tunes like ronnie mitchells hang loose is a great record but impossible to dance to at normal speed for me and probably everyone not under 21 and/or on a gram of speed!.....take it down a bit and its a top uptempo dancer everyone can enjoy..... i fully understand the arguement about originals v any other format but keeping to the 'intended speed' or not playing it at all is bollox IMHO....but each to there own ;-) dean

How Has The Northernsoul Scene Changed Since Getting Older?
Spacehopper replied to ImberBoy's topic in All About the SOUL
one good thing about the internet and todays scene is that so many good original tunes are now affordable for those who cant buy the 'monsters' from dealers..and new 'boots' are obviously boots and not lookalikes one bad thing is too many people would rather continue to hear those same old tunes and ignore the piles of good lesser known tracks...people that years ago would have probably been shouting for new tunes...and not all of em better than todays discoveries either! dean -
bought my first soul record aged 11 in 78 after hearing my dad and bruv playing it....didnt start going out to soul nights till about 83 via the scooter scene...after about 7 years i left the scooterscene and started to dj but for the last couple of years had been listening and buying more reggae than soul...for the next 14 years was away from the soul and scooter scenes but still playing my soul at home.... 9 years ago i got another lambretta and started spinning a few northern tunes at my reggae residencies in bristol...within in 2 years id almost stopped djing and buyin reggae... and the soul bug had bit me again even bigger so for the last 7 years me and nicci are out almost every weekend...mainly around the sw...if i had more money to stop over in hotels id travel further more often....although we always enjoy ourselves wherever we go...i love to hear tunes i dont know but can enjoy an oldies night too...better than the telly! ive always been obsessed with records since i was about 6 so that will never change...im sure when my type 1 diabetis statrs giving me shit i will have to stop going out but even then i will still go to the best club in town which is our music room!... hopefully at 45 ive still got maybe 15 years before that happens...WOW if its anything like the last 7 bring it on!!! dean

it seemes the recession has hit us and we are to lose our venue...we didnt even realise but its owned by a very large brewery chain with even larger debts and they are going to sell the building probably not as a pub/venue... its not the end of go go children and we are in talks with a few venues its just deciding which way to go... its kinda strange really after two years at our first venue the aces bar, the owners sold it and its almost 2 years exactly since weve been at the spring garden...that was a good move taking our atten dances up from an average of 70 to 100+...hopefully this move will take us up again... things will be different but hopefully even better... checkout the events section for the last nite for a while on the first saturday in may with guest andy hutchins dean

Price Check For Angela Davis On Flaming Arrow
Spacehopper replied to Jnixon's topic in Look At Your Box
brilliant tune..popsike for last years seems to suggest 400 to 600$...but suppose thats on auction sites, remember seeing on lists last year for about £600! -
yes, gutted the first saturday of the month(which is always our night, gogo children-bristol) falls on the easter weekend...we are now on the same nite as riverside ,gloucester...the night before the twisted wheel all dayer and the mars bar allniter...aswell as the london weekender..gogo regulars are going to all these events we should still be busy though...30 confirmed on facebook...and weve been too busy recently so could do with a few less as we should have a new doorman starting and weve got to give 50cds and all the new membership cards out... still gonna be a good nite...good luck to all promoters!! dean

watchin a good clip from the new northern soul film on facebook/you tube last night, not sure if its been on here yet?....dancin to key to my happiness and then chatting to 3 young lads after... the dancins really come on since the first auditions and the lads really seem into it....
-
there will never be masses of teens as in the days of the casino or even the mod revival days but i believe as those in their 50s+ give it up for doing the garden on a sunday instead of the recovery position..the next generttion of 'youngsters' will carry it on.....probably more like late 20s/30s and 40s,whether getting back into it or discovering it first time round...go go children in bristol (big-ish city) is evidence of this average age would be early 40s i reckon.... i dont think you can expect youngsters to travel to sports halls out of town and be surrounded by oldies...but some of em might in 10 years time...but then maybe the typical soul nite will change as it has over the years..who knows....none of us,no matter how many times we talk about it!! ;-) dean

most sellers on here are honest but i have also bought from someone who advertised as ex and it had a scratch which stuck on 2 out of the 3 decks ive tried it on...how can you say tha s ex?....after a few messages between us i gave up because she didnt believe me said shed never had a problem with it....now before i play it i have to test it first...lesson is ive never used them again so although it cost me £60 it cost her more in the end... dean

my parents used to go to the flamingo from norwich in the 50s and early 60s...aswell as ronnie scotts...finished by 62 as my older brother (a yate,st ives go-er) was born...so im third generation of niter go-er!! my auntie and mums best friend were both seeing black american servicemen..auntie got married to one sadly we are no longer it touch..especially from a record buying point of view!! :-)...i can remember in the 70s when we were in touch my parents would be clubbing with them again at the usaf bases around norfolk...where they would have soul bands flown in from the states to perform...sadly she cant remember any names they were the bessed dressed teens in norwich with the clothes they got from london and it was the first place she'd seen drugs...although she never took them.... dean

to be honest 5ish is normally my time....but ive normally been there since early doors and dancin to the fast stuff!!.. not a cop out but since being diagnosed type 1 diabetic a few years back once ive hit the wall its a nightmare trying to get through it and keeping my sugar levels right and the day after i can get into such a deep sleep sometimes i dont wake up when i need to which can cause fits ...not pretty for nicci who has to sort me out... saying that i do make the end occasionally..and yes its an achievment...fair play to those who do it regular dean
-
actually while talkin bout dawn penn...first done on studio one yonks ago but can remember in the 90s when it was remade by her and steelie and cleavie i was djing reggae and gettin new tunes straight from jamaica....played this in a pub on a ja 7" bout 6 months before it was released in uk and the place went mad...knew it was gonna be a big hit sorry for going off topic mods!!
-
better still by tommy raye...and theres another rnb version too on ace, recently reissued but cant remember who at the moment!..probably both before jerry gainey? certainly sound it....barbara and the browns did a better version on mgm..a bit later early 70s maybe? dean

Allnighters - Was: Worlds Number 1 Allnighter
Spacehopper replied to good angel's topic in All About the SOUL
kings hall is the biggest but 'the best' can only be down to personal opinions...its the best venue...if only the second room had a proper dancefloor it would be the perfect venue.. ive been to kings hall,lifeline,bidds,rugby,radcliff..they are all different and i know what im getting when i go to each one and to be honest ive had brilliant nights at them all and thats why just like my fave tunes ist nigh on impossible for me to say what is best..and why have we got to have a best?...just creates more bad blood amoungst promoters and less face it there seems to be enuff of that about already! dean -
