-
i didnt either as the manship guide had no pic of a boot but it has got the desciption NOR in bold which does mean it been done..not very clear..printing error?
-

but surely the scene in 66/69 only had ovo?....were there bootleggers then? certainly werent cds and too early for reissues....
-
problem is if theres a nite on (especially in a recession) within say 50 miles of a 'proper' nite where the promoter is paying djs who have searched for something and paid for something different, that nite could then close..and its nites/djs and record dealers who have found recent tunes such as kindly sheppherds,jt parker, parliaments, bev savage etc that give the lap top/cd clubs something to play other than the obvious.... if all the ovo nites finish in 10 years time... the only nites left will all be playing the same old...too many doing that already IMO...couldnt take another 10 years of it... dean

personally....born in 67..by 72/3 although into chart pop was also playing my dads 7s (not allowed to touch his lp's) temptations,jr walker, little queenie...peer pressure mid 70s was into elvis (much to the shame and piss takin of my dad and older brother)... 78ish my older bruv now doing the allnighters and i started to listen to northern, bought my first northern tune, dad also playing james brown, sam and dave etc....79 two tone happened over the next four years got into punk also...left school 83 and following bruvs footsteps again got a scooter...heard northern again and though wow i know that!...over the next five years aswell as soul nites and rallies i also got into reggae(dad also used to play steel pulse, marley lps)...1990 got out of scooter scene and started djing reggae...2003ish got a scoot again and although i'd always kept my soul and played it at home i started mixin it in with my reggae slots and within a few years was well and truely back on the soul scene and hardly ever buying or djing reggae my biggest influences alongside my dad and brother would be the jam(got me looking at so many tunes from the 60s),the specials(got me hunting for the original ska sound) stiff little fingers(again loved their reggae/punk covers slightly ahead of the clash) and bob marley...mainly lp tracks, first reggae act outside of skinhead stuff i listened too.. as far as todays kids go....i do think the majority (NOT ALL) are less musically minded than us mainly cos the media has so much power today we just had peer pressure to contend with now they are bombarded with how they should look and what to listen too mainly by multi national companies owned by millionaires and failed popstars of the past...occasionally the likes of x factor come across some real unique talent but by the time they get a record deal they sound as shit as everything else...look how many 'underground scenes' british kids made over the years which be came popular down to US despite the crap pop stuff we were served up..mod,soul,skinhead,two tone, punk, new romantic,goth....now the only scenes made by kids seem to be 'dance' scenes such as dub step etc which to be honest dont take much imagination or talent and are hardly any different from scenes before them and thats from some who got drum and bass and even hard house and techno in the 90s...two underground scenes that i think were the last to shakes things up a bit dean
-
i know its a different well worn out subject but this is one of the reason there is an ORIGINAL VINYL ONLY side of the scene.that a lot of punters 'who dont care what format its on' dont seem to get.....its not snobbery...there are already too many djs/nights as you say and some are playing boots/cds and now even laptops....if its all only original a lot wouldnt bother so the other nights would be fuller and a lot of people who only listen to oldies (at the boot etc nights) would probably actually like a lot of the lesser known tracks if they heard them more often and gave them a chance IMO :-)...dont you think? dean
-
ive got a couple ot records that are cracked and been 'repaired' one by heating and one just a piece of sellotape...both play ok with only the smallest occasional click...have to be careful when putting on and taking off turntable ...although i rarely play either anyway so maybe thats why theyve lasted years in that condition

no worries mick great set as always..hope to see you and tracy soon...top set too tim...gutted i missed most of both of em sitting on the door :-( -
agree amazing how many people mess it up..sometimes drink related though i think!... techincal side should be easy to pick up....but.need to know your tunes, what follows what so your set flows from one sub genre of soul to another without sounding like a cd comp on random play...i reckon...thats where having some decks even cheap ones at home helps..can do it on one deck but not so much fun
-
agree about the guide on prices but thats another debate!..if you wanna buy on a budget popsike site is a better guide to auction site sales at least...manships guide is however i believe essential for getting to know what to look out for as far as boots, reissues etc
-
september jones had the floor full at gogo children saturday..had a couple of people come up to the decks asking about it too...love it and one went for £83 on ebay!
-
stick to technics decks..mite cost more to begin with but will last for ages...dont need a big mixer with lots on it especially for home use,ive just replaced my numark blue dog i bought about 13 years back and used everyday so would recommend numark..just bought the mk 3... tunes..obviously stick to originals...lots of great tunes out there that wont break the bank both known classics and semi-known stuff...mix up your sets with a bit of both...IMO buy a manship price guide, will help knowing whats original or not DONT play when other nites are on local to you,try your best to work with other promoters most of all ENJOY YOURSELF! dean
