  1. another shout for my sweet thing....first heard at gogo about 4 years back played by an ex resident of ours..had to buy and almost always in my playbox..still a cheapie too another cheapie which i might give a spin this weekend...different vibe but still a killer IMO...'IM YOUR SPECIAL FOOL'...only a tenner from manship....written by jimmy radcliff https://youtu.be/7y6OvN7ampA https://youtu.be/wrtK63RmSmg dean
  2. agree..uptempo flip 'troubles' is brill too
  3. yes interesting in the history of tunes to know where and when but as I said personally for that only..not as 'we played it first' and to go on and on stating various venues and djs..who really knows?..whos been everywhere?.. ...I 'bigged' seans set up for playing something different at a venue and room he could and not having to do the big oldie thing like he has to so much, despite him playing tunes ive heard others play first SO WHAT!...he even sold me the ruby winters himself for a fiver years ago before he obviously got it....but ive never knocked burnley for being oldies only , ive never been..(going for seans Hs 50th though )...wouldn't slag a venue/night/playlist off if hadn't been there first....I like to see playlists not to go hunting for those tunes but just to see whats being played where in the country at venues I couldn't get to and those im thinkin of getting too if poss...agree maybe some djs are too lazy but after this im sure there will be those who will think twice! by the way not his PA but sean has been to gogo as a punter...and he normally doesn't dance to others sets because hes playing later and scribbling all the tunes played in his little black book!..but have recently seen pics on fb of him dancing at black bee club anyway that's my last word on the subject (I think)...how about we all play nicer in future dean
  4. I'm glad you did Pete..couldn't get to rugby and was interested in what Sean would play in room 2...
  5. Agree...wot a load of bollox ....no wonder not many djs post playlists !..who gives a fuk who played what where first!...interesting for about a nano second Tedious and petty
  6. crackin cheapie..sean introduced me to a couple of years back in his sets...shame i couldnt make it up sean bet you loved playing some different things!...great sets dean
  7. remember a couple years back at bidds the dancefloor peeling up and they had to put a table over it! still love it though while we're getting away with blatent plugs not only was our venue in bristol a napolionic prison so very atmospheric..it was also the riverside club in only fools and horses! dean
  8. sad but true...I f+++++ hate that song! dean
  9. never went to wigan but plenty of venues still like it in my time (80s)...agree a venue does add something and social clubs/sports hall can be great nites but do have something missing IMO...still some great venues out there being used though...went to a new one last weekend..in the forest of dean glos. a miners hall with a dancefloor paid for by U.S GI's ..real retro brilliant! dean
  10. came out a couple of years back peter with a great free 7"...HIGHLY recommended...buy it! dean
  11. interesting...released sept 5th...so is that the film release date then?...sure i read somewhere thay were going to coinscide ive only got a handful of books but neil rushtons northern soul stories will take some beating as a great 'cofee table' book full of great pics and stories..some great record collecting stories too dean
  12. most of the serious above posts are crucial but as dave has already said first and foremost ENJOY!...think you can even get away with making a few mistakes if people feel youre having fun...its contagious you know! as a dj whats the point of doing it if you dont enjoy it?...unless its a favour for a mate maybe.. as a dancer i dont like to see a dj looking bored playing his own tunes but great to see him or her getting into it whether thats dancing or just singing their hearts out dean
  13. not sure what parts you are disagreeing with me here mate but ive seen interviews with marley, bunny wailer, chris blackwell etc saying about all the influences ive mentioned? vocal styling and dress of the impressions being a big influence not just the lp covers....marley got thrown off a sly and the family tour for being too good as a support band wasnt influenced musically so much but did use american rock guitarists to over dub on catch a fire as i said to catch the white market as sly was doing dean
  14. basically yes...from the early days ska rocksteady and reggae have always been influenced by what was happening in the states...legendary producer clement coxsone dodd from studio one would make trips to the states and take sevens back to cover...early vocal bands like the wailers were influenced and copied the styles and sounds of the impressions etc...coxsone even called studio one 'the sound of young jamaica' with pics of the other albums available on the back sleeve of lps, sounds familiar? and i dont think its a coinscidence while the us was becoming more militant with lyrics about social injustice and the rise of the nation of islam in jamaica the same thing was happening with rastafari bob marley was heavily influenced by the way the likes of sly and the family stone were being marketed and crossing over to the white crowd saying all this jamaica has always had an abundance of talent and although 'borrowed' certain aspects of american black music they also made it their own and spread it over the world...not bad for a tiny little island! dean
