just bought sam and dave-i found out from discogs but then realised i already have it on u.s...anyway when i bought it from discogs asked was it orginal (as in 60s press) and was supposed to be but looks brand new with a roulette label? with a nice looking 'hits usa' cover ...not knowing f all about euro releases any ideas as to when this was released/re issued?..gonna sell it but dont know if to call it orginal?? cheers dean

this was me last week....oops! spent a bit this month,perhaps i better sell a few spares/underplayed (by me!)....made a little short of 200 ....... spent about 250 on others! very addictive and can have all the problems of any addiction.... great to see a lot of people only getting into it recently both on here and in my travels...my addiction goes way back to my pre teens ,various genres all just as addictive!... pocket money then on to high school and lists off mates for shoplifting tours at the weekend!..no second hand shops though..hmv were the last 'chain' shop to leave the vinyl in the sleeves in norwich..till we got caught week later they just had card in them..never forget that tap on my shoulder...grounded for a month juvenile court and £70 fine so no pocket money for a while! ..which is tuff when youre 14 advice (which i sometimes take)..know your limits..esnipe and walk away!..if you lose it....theres always another tune dean

to answer the original question in my opinion and experience its a mix of both punter and promoter OVER TIME...personally speaking our night has progressed over the years to be a mix of oldies and lesser known stuff from all soul sub genres (even a few 70s) exept modern.. originally we even played british beat and some ska but the dancefloor and crowd has changed as these didnt work so well as the soul stuff (although we still get asked for ska and occasionally finish on a COUPLE) so this is where the punter has come in BUT we have always tried to play something a bit different too instead of probably fillilng the place years ago by playing oldies off of boots! and picking and mixing together guests who we know will mix it up a bit..so this is where the promoter comes in so over nearly 6 years we have a bunch of regulars who know they will get a bit of everything and are fine with that..a mix of oldies lovers...rnb mod types and 45 junkies/djs wanting to add to their wants lists!..new faces everyweek some love the relaxed vibe and come again others are polite and we dont see again and thats fine ..thats when time comes into it i reckon dean

haing been 'into' a few scenes over the years i think for me it actually is the friendship and respect you get at nites( 90% of the time anyway)..ive never been to places where this is the norm and people from other scenes seem to be most surprised by it when they get into northern imo.....and what makes it unique is the traveling all over the country in large amounts..something the scooter scene does i know but thast not just a music based scene ive collected records since i was about 5 or 6 so love the vinyl obsession but then i know people into reggae,hip hop and indie that are just the same...and a record fair i go to is full of old rockabillys who are just as obsessed with old rock n roll 45s love dancin all night but then there are still underground techno events which are full of people who work all week and party all night at the weekend... at the end of the day everybody has nostalgic memories of their time as a teen/twenties and most i chat to think their time was the best dean
