  1. ted played ray agee Nye in Southampton and after many years I still danced..infact ran to the floor, love it!..great horns, hypnotic guitar riff wonderful vocals for me a mix of rnb influences and what we call 'northern'...not a hard beat IMO but maybe a bit fast for some today didn't one go for 3 of 4 figures recently despite having a big chunk out of it and missing a bit of the intro? not gonna get involved in the whole bootleg debate again...except 'keep it real and you keep it special'....if everyone had it to playout it wouldn't be special anymore and we wouldn't be talking about it would we? dean
  2. thats what i thought...i must have misunderstood a post earlier
  3. agree with whats been said this scene has always taken on different styles..the masses never used to be so strict..so AS ALWAYS new tunes that make it may not be that uptempo four to the floor 60s soul that is 'northern'... i always mention jt parker and kindly shepherds..maybe rnb and gospel but down here in the sw only a few of us danced years ago when des first started playing them regularly now all the oldies lovers run to the floor on their intros so in the future will thay be thought of by the younger and new soulies as 'classic oldies'? 'jeanette' was mentioned, are we saying thats a later discovery?...wigan was well before my time but there is a goldmine lp of 'casino forgotten memories' and its on there? dean
  4. his signature tune would have to be 'not working in a coal mine'
  5. well i do go out almost every weekend and i cant remember the last time i heard strictly northern all night, always a bit of soulful rnb not 50s rock n roll or a bit of funky edged not outright deep funk or a bit of latin..dont want no soulful house although there is often modern soul thrown in..which i dont like..doesnt make me stay in,i just go look at the sales boxes..im having a great time
  6. i think he means like the uproar on fb just because sean chapman played a latin track at what some else thought should have been a strictly 'northern' soul allniter...but i might be wrong genre tagging lets someone knows what roughly to expect but i dont think it has to be black and white..and i much prefer a night that mixes it up a bit..dont wanna hear strictly northern allnight
  7. is that the i-roy cut? not heard the 12..got the 7 also..a killer!
  8. that was tongue in cheek by the way ,we havnt got ques of young kids trying to get it since her vids have been getting talked about
  9. lovely girl..out almost every weekend, was at gogo on saturday..we didnt get any requests for this song though.. think shes done more for 'bristol soul' in the last 6 months on you tube than three or four of us promoters have in the last 10 years!
  10. killer mid tempo flip to sam and dave too 'it was so good while it lasted'
  11. 5 royales and sam and dave are killers!..check em out on you tube if you dont know em both are good double siders..flip of sam and dave is 'it was so good while it lasted'..lovely! dean
  12. cheers...know the sylvia sims and katherine holt..and like em although not in my playbox..just had a listen to the others on you tube and agree they are not really the soulful side of rnb
  13. GRRRR!! cant see them let alone hear them..what are they ? please !!
  14. sadly my works pc is being a twat and can only see black sqaures so can not comment on the tunes aaron has posted i would just say aaron watch how you word things on this site..i now re-read posts before i post them and i still seem to piss people off after years of being on here..people still seem to sometimes read negative things which were not intended..and sometimes you can go round and round and will have to agree to disagree..but' thats life i guesss' i will also say however its a still a great site with lots of knowledge and top people on it..those who love rnb,northern,funk,70s,modern and reggae..so live, learn and enjoy dean
  15. he doesnt come across as one who would be influenced by others to me...maybe not worded too well, could it be that he meant he just prefers rnb and funky edged 60s soul to the more traditional 'northern' sound of a lot of oldies?? dean
  16. me? edited didnt mean to offend dean
  17. was chatting about this at the weekend with someone....i think there are a lot of us doing the same thing as in selling cheaper tunes to fund others..or trying to personally its down to the economic climate..or recession ....6 years back i wouldnt be selling some of those i am and would probably be buying more 'not bad' tunes rather than just wants....cost of living continues to rise and have lost all bonus's and inflation related pay rises so before i buy too many i have to sell on a few that dont get much turntable action instead of just adding to an ever growing collection as id like to dean
  18. the same as whats makes a good soul record..personal opinion...i agree with all the things you say a good dj 'should' have/be but im sure we can all think of very busy djs who are guilty of a lot of the things people have complained about on this thread but lots of people out there still love em ;-)
  19. ive no doubt there will also be more oldies lovers returning to the scene also after the film...even after the documentry i noticed a lot of posts on fb of people doing their frist niter in years at KH
  20. hi aaron..dean from bristol we chatted outside at the last rugby i think...'fox in a mini skirt' great tune! to answer the question about the future..its posts like aarons that gives me hope that it will still be a scene about hunting down different soul tunes and not just about reliving a brief part of it youngsters are not blinkered the same way i believe the european crowd are not..they take each tune as they hear it and do not compare it to any oldie edited as i think i seem to offend dean
  21. pretty sure i read on facebook melvin came home to find them missing and nothing else touched??..which makes this case of stolen records sader than craigs being stolen in an exeter bar or the other stories of record boxes stolen from cars etc they obviously knew what they were after or where they could get shot of them..so one way or another must be known to people on the soul scene really hoping they turn up,cant imagine how it must feel to find an empty music room! dean
