If You Had The Chance To Be In A Recording Studio/ What Record
Spacehopper replied to Rodders22's topic in All About the SOUL
think it would actually be bob marley-jah live..recorded after haile sellasie died..timothy white describes it so well in 'catch a fire' that religious or not would have been one very special moment..especially as ive been in that very small studio so everyone would have been on the same buzz soul wise..maybe Williams and Watson-too late..great tune and they sound like they were having fun -
Biggest Nighter Tunes Of The Last Ten Years
Spacehopper replied to Reg Scott's topic in All About the SOUL
is that another dean ?..wasn't me,although john sold adey something way too cheap a few years back..might have been that, cant remember -
that would be my second choice..love it
-
frank Wilson... seriously though it would have to be originals for me too....so whats the story why on earth wasn't it released?
-
go for it and good luck!..not sure how many soulies you will attract might even be a bit too much for the young cool mods types who go to the 100 club etc BUT im sure you will still have some top nites and hopefully turn some more youngsters onto OUR kind of soul who will support you and go looking for more too a couple of great guest djs to start with to cover all bases from latin, rnb, northern and 70s/modern atb dean

use both and enjoy both....have to step back from getting into arguments on both sometimes as a promoter I think you need both but have to agree with chalky on FB being better..you may have hundreds in your group plus all your friends not in your group and they can all 'share' your event with their friends and you can share your event on other groups and so forth the number of people who could see and read posts about your event far outways the views on ss IMO buy and occasionally sell on both but the number of sellers who only advertise on one or the other is getting smaller ss is better if you don't want to get involved in non soul matters you can keep out of 'freebasing' where FB you cant help but see countless reposting of what is a lot of the time bullshit..again IMO SS is also far better for knowledge on soul..amazing the amount of things ive learned about soul as a music and a scene keep up the good work!! dean

eddie Floyd..floorfiller for £8!...good price on leo mccorkle too another great dancer..somebody buy it!!
-
never had a prob with you pete but waitin now for two days for a reply on one tune ...another seller replied today in less than two hours so not all bad :-)
-
had a rant about this recently myself..seems to be happening more on new release stuff too..take your money though! ..and then wait for weeks for more stock which hardly ever turns up also old stuff on musicstack and discogs..and you have to wait at least two days before they tell you its out of stock! :-(
-
these polls/charts should be renamed 'fave' 100 instead of top as that's all they really are IMO everyone voting foe the singer they LIKE the most so as has been said depends on the website whos running the poll..one on here would be very different
-
only a bit of fun I know but also a bit of silly question IMO...no one label is better than ALL the rest I think if you had your best1000 motown records and nothing else you'd get bored quicker than your best 1000 from all others..i know i would!
-
was a brilliant and very busy room last year, more so than the modern room underneath it..will be there along with many others :-)
-
LOL ..well I know plenty who want rnb who were never mods and certainly are not young! as for not being able to comment about wigan cos I wont know....you were in your teens and twenties getting bolloxed and dancing all night to brilliant music..although we now know some was shit ...er..been there, done that.. might not have been wigan, not always soul but trust me the same buzz..i understand alright obviously I wish I was old enuff to have gone..i would have loved it! but honestly part of me is glad I didn't..theres enough people trying to relive it every weekend yes a bit provocative pete but the reason I mentioned it was because in this thread it seems rnb that was played back in the day is northern ive had conversations on here ,FB and out most weekends where SOME people of that age also don't wanna hear funky edged but then go and dance to world column or ohio players..which is...er funky edged soul..BUT was also a northern oldie..that was my point
-
oh and before anyone says it..i enjoy going out to all different nites so no I don't JUST wanna go to nite that plays rnb all night or stompers all night..i do know what to expect...my point was don't expect to like everything played
-
I cant believe this thread is still going on!..at the end of the day if I have to put up with modern, seventies and boring mid tempo dross WHEN I GO OUT..which is sod all like 'northern soul' as named by DG..and I do at some venues without complaining I just have a chat, buy a beer, look at some vinyl ...then surely a bit of rnb isn't the end of the precious wigan northern soul scene is it? ;-)
-
glad I got mine a while back then!..was on soul spectrum on the radio last nite talkin about it and a few posted on fb they hadn't heard it and liked it so a quick look on discogs for them and one was going $2 in brasil..one for $60 in the uk and one for $498 in france!!
-
great five pound dancer.... https://youtu.be/RBI9XFMiA1s apparently he didn't like lets stay together, thought he sounded like a girl...he almost turned willie Mitchell and hi down....he said no and their coach was leaving for a gig somewhere and he changed his mind ran up and tapped on the door as it was pulling away..the rest as they say...
-
nice article in the last mojo mag about 'hi'..few interesting facts about al..also a good article on small faces, worth a look
-
so I think im right in saying in the states in the 60s all the music we love was in the rhythm and blues charts..so when was it first called 'soul' and by who?..and I don't mean soul as in gospel
-
yes mate I think they did..and then the meteors at disc86 was it? were they 85 too..cant remember....kicked off again, I suppose the rallies of the mid 80s were bringing so many different people together,it was no longer just mods so was always gonna be a bit of trouble..add to that the football side of things and huge amounts of alcohol
-
im sure we were scottie..cant remember who I saw where..there were so many on..except the early ones in 84 my first year of rallies, edwin at the iow, mary wells at the tiffanys, yarmouuth niter, snake davis at the Newark showground..it all starts to get a bit blurred after that although will never forget the Nazi skins kicking off at tiffanys desmond dekker gig in 86 or the full on riot at iow 87 when chris burton was promoting and booked all oi bands..add to that car loads of scooterless skins and a beer tent ripping people off all weekend..recipe for trouble! im constantly meeting 'soulies' in their 40s/50s who were at the same places I was back then..seeing pics of scoots on the 'rallies in the 80s' facebook group that are identical to some of mine great days dean
-
that would be a mental film! as anyone attending the scooter rallies of the early/mid 80s on here would know..no one would believe half of it,i still have to think did that really happen?!....couldn't afford to cut down all those restored £5000 lambrettas now anyway :-) as for the film, obviously didn't go but looking forward to it..also saw a post on facebook saying the drug scene was a bit too much as a lot thought it was in the book?
