that's a much better chart!! pervis lee -you don't care sock a poo poo Maurice mckinnies
-
so this is a chart compiled of tunes played on mixcloud...what has that got to do with whats being played by djs out in the REAL world...actually on the scene ...this just tells us those who listen to soul on their computer or phone are largely oldies fans...no surprises their....some great records but very few different from the obvious....cerrtainly not an interesting chart IMO

Wanted: Manship's Bootlegs Guide. Sorted Now
Spacehopper replied to a topic in General Sales & Wants
get the 5th edition price guide it has all the bootleg info plus scans at the back..better than the bootleg guide -
remember getting lots of great 'indie' sevens (Kaiser chiefs, arctic monkeys, hard fi,dead 60s) back then from virgin which is no longer there! pic sleeves different colour vinyl,10" etc, just like the good old days but then most of that type of band have now finished too...hmv today seems more about games and dvds than music

trying not to be negative but I reckon....a film about modern day teenagers discovering northern on its own wont be any different than both soulboy and northern soul despite being set in different times with different fashins etc..as above posts have said both of these had weak stories really..ofcourse we love the music and dancing so we are biased any new film needs a better story first..mr Vickers has come up with something a bit different I cant see yet another film without a good story causing the stir weve had recently..even in our circles despite its mistakes etc and the slating it sometimes gets I think these show how good the actual story for quadrophenia was!..but then the basis of that was by townsend a good storyteller even if it was in song I read a book many years ago called cracking up which I must read again but im sure at the time I thought it would make a good film..nice twist at the end... good luck if you do it..in answer to your questions... 1 lots...the internet and money making mainly! although for some the ideology of finding new tunes has changed into a wanting soundtrack that HASNT changed 2 nothing..and why would they want to! they are making millions out of brainwashing kids into thinking the shit they dish out is good..selling merchandise and downloads of tv show recordings etc before the latest x factor band has stepped foot in a recording studio..i saw one of the heats and the 8000 strong audience were screaming their heads off as a band walked on stage that hadn't even made to finals! 3 id love to see more kids get into it..we are lucky we have a good amount who come to our night and some havnt even got parents into it!..but they also like other stuff and although some will almost all wont get swallowed up into an obsession like we have..the choice for them is too wide..i don't think we should try and get more younguns involved but we should accept them if they do dean

yep..was gonna mention pow wow and federal..and gogo children ofcourse

Are The Mods Responsible For The Northern/rare Soul Scene ?
Spacehopper replied to arnie j's topic in All About the SOUL
or the original question could be worded....would wigan..and the northern soul 'scene' as we call it have happened if there had not been the torch etc of the early 70s? ...and if no....would the torch etc of the early 70s have happened if there had not been a twisted wheel etc of the 60s?...and would the wheel have been as popular if there hadn't been a 'mod' scene? ofcourse there wasnt mods at mid 70s wigan..ofcourse the music and fashion was slightly different BUT as far as ive read..as im far too young...there were soul fans/mods who had been to the wheel and some went onto the torch...and there were soul fans who went to the torch who went onto wigan... so its a yes from me :-) dean -

Flying With A Magma 150 Record Bag - Hand Luggage?
Spacehopper replied to Mister Fish's topic in All About the SOUL
should say on their website size AND weight restrictions?.....flown to Glasgow with easyjet recently, first flight with records so rammed 60+ in a 50 box but could have defo taken a bigger box..was surprised the room there is in the overhead storage ! -
cant read the article on my pc too blurred when I increase its size so I wont comment on it although it looks good.. as for the two quotes above..i don't really agree with either....happy doesn't really get plays and probably wouldn't have ever been connected with northern had it not been for levs video IMO resurgence against computer music? I wish but too be honest almost all the youngsters I know who are actually on the scene travelling to gigs..and not just in a city going to a club where soul is played....have parents who have been into it and have grown up around northern

on facebook this week..after the film ive seen three people said they are looking to start up new nights two within 40 miles of each other and all within an hours drive of maybe 4 or 5 established nights and these to me come across as more of the same..theres also another new more credible night starting in close proximity to all of these! at least that one will play something different been silly for ages..just plain stupid now as far as ovo goes..most on here will say ofcourse ..look on fb and most will call us snobs and say its in the groove that counts
-
its a bit sad but with everything that is going on in the world maybe he feels he has to 'cover up' his indian/muslim name to have a chance at doing any business? at the end of the day I have noticed a few sellers on here and facebook with different names..never sure why? and before I get bombarded with hate male im not implying anything there...know the name aaron darcy and not defo but pretty sure ive dealt with him ok

way too young so wasn't at wigan and wasn't a mod in the 60s so cant compare with memories but I think weve all became cynical as we ve got older...to quote weller 'now life is too critical, life is too cynical..we lose our innocence we lose our very soul' ;-) as a 16 year old in 83 watching quad for the first time on video I/we noticed the many mistakes, mainly the late 60s and even 70s scooters in it and if memory serves me right the double lp reissue of a quick one at the party?..but we laughed about it..we didn't moan and it didn't ruin the film for us the internet as pete has said makes it worse..there are now pages and ofcourse tv programmes dedicated to picking out some of the samllest of mistakes and im guessing in quad days they didn't have the money to shut down shepherds bush to film or even considered people picking through what was going on in the background? i was involved in a big dance music scene in Bristol in the mid 90s for a couple of years and have to say human traffic set in Cardiff is bang on..and a brilliant film once again more of a feelgood thing
-
saw it last night in an almost full Bristol cinema..one of the two showing it..enjoyed it,having read the book was expecting the drug thing to be prominent so it didn't shock or disappoint me like it did many on fb..cinema full of soulies and scooterists..not many youngsters except those with their parents..as expected really wasn't cheesy to me like some of the soul boy scenes but also wasn't a feel good film I suppose ..gritty is the term used...after the watershed on tv compared to soulboy sunday afternoon! great dancing, music although as has been said some post 74 tunes in there...looked authentic for the 70s but cant comment on wigan as I was 7 in 74 ..good acting especially from the youngsters..had a chemistry which reminded me of the young quad cast..which I love despite its many mistakes! will hopefully watch on dvd next sunday afternoon chilling after the drive home from lifeline so a big thanx ,well done and congratulations to Elaine and all who were involved dean

Photos /videos @ Northern Soul Events - Stop It
Spacehopper replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
hasn't this subject cropped up before? I find it strange people get so emotional about it..unless they have something to hide not saying any of you who've replied have which is why the smiley is there!! but fair enough if you don't want it up there it shouldn't be ..BUT as with the post referring to the cameras filming wigan..look back at all those brilliant photos that have captured past venues and fashions and people, some no longer here..in the future we maybe thanking these annoying camera folk..and remember most maybe on line but are never printed so may well disappear with the facebook accounts of the photgraphers one day? there are a few of me looking a bit worse for wear on that site which I wish were not there especially as its a way for me mum to see what im up to! ...but will never ruin my night don't look at a lot though..once you seen an elderly couple in a 'soulfist' t shirt once ..most tend to look the same dean -
