same old tracks but its not aimed at us is it... with lev on the cover and an all young crowd in the ad that's who theyre going for IMO youngsters who have heard about it but not got into it yet and maybe still think its only for oldies..as in people as far as track listing, others on here know more than me but its all about having permission to put a track on a cd rather than just choosing the best or what maybe hasn't already been on others innit? seen some nasty posts on a you tube clip about lev ..about her being on the tv and you tube and facebook all the time..well shes also out all the time too ...inc burnley Saturday night, she arrived on her own and had no lift home sorted..remember that? waiting for a cab outside burnley at sumfin past 6 last week we got chattin to a young lad in the office who had been at the club under the kestrel..he asked was it northern soul up there and said wed probably had a better night than him..apparently his mum goes to northern nights dean

Which Records Are The R&b 'cuckoos In The Nest'
Spacehopper replied to Drew3's topic in All About the SOUL
if we are talking about being out at an event to me its just about the beat and if I can dance to it in a kinda 'northern soul style' if ya know what I mean? ..love my rnb but some of the very early 60s and late 50s stuff has more of a jive feel about it..sales described as rockin rnb are normally not for me..don't get me wrong im not one of those who call it rock n roll..there is a difference this is also the same with funk..love my 60s uptempo stuff..slower mid 70s funkedelic not normally for me said many a time the whole 'this isn't northern' statement bores me as IMO whether it be bob sinclar,Charles Sheffield or bobby kline its not 'northern' as first described in the early 70s but they all fill the floors now... -
a great read and some top stories....never bought from soul bowl myself, another too young in the 70s and early 80s by the mid 80s when id left school and had some money I was spending it all on my scooter and being happy with the bootlegs bought from the rallys but your stories about waiting for the list ..and then ringing up after 8 and the line being engaged and missing out on tunes struck a chord..use to do the exact same thing in the very early 90s when djing and collecting reggae from a list sent out monthly from a bloke in Nottingham..loads of original JA 7s for a couple of quid a time..got his 'typed' lists again about 10 years back as hes still not doing the internet thing....prices had certainly changed though! dean

if the seller didnt state to pay 'friends and family' then IMO you shouldn't have to pay the paypal fees on a sale 'for goods'..he should..depends on how much you want the record I suppose as its only a couple of quid most sellers do ask now as their fees can be high I suppose if selling lots..basically as a buyer you do not have the insurance a normal sale on paypal can give but you have to trust the sellers..never had a problem myself ..so far dean

was a shop similar on picton street on the outskirts of st pauls..closed in the late 90s but was run by an old couple and they had a written details on cards of everything they sold and had in stock..got a mention in neil rushtons book soul stories, cant remember who but the first play of Frankie and johnny at yate was bought there apparently all before my time down here I just caught the end of the picton st shop and bought lots of reggae but nothing rare..john stapleton would know more as he was here in the late 70s

Poll: Youtube Video's Of Current Events Dancefloors
Spacehopper replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
not really bothered either way so a 'shrug' from me... I know there are people for whatever reason don't want pics or vids of them out dancing and that's fair enough so a bad thing for them but on the other hand just about the only film we have of days gone by is this England wigan thing which im fed up with seeing so maybe in a decade or so when/if some of these nights are gone it will be a good thing? dean -

back to the original topic I see a lot of the richest 'djs' are also producers..so promoting their own tunes which every time someone downloads or buys the latest mix cd they get paid for, aswell as any radio play..i know they still get 4 figure sums for djing but I wonder if its the producing that lifts them into the million dollar league?

several light surface marks?...think he forgot the 'per square centimetre ' at the end of that description!

was at Worcester niter when they filmed the dance scenes..... we thought it was a Weetabix ad and can remember people thinkin wtf? happy people dancing in the ad..we weren't happy though with the bloody lights on till 10 and nobody else allowed to dance...or maybe just those without baggy trousers top set by Jordan later though ironically..if that's the right word after filming this wonderful scene I understand there was an assault outside that night and so the next niters off dean

at the end of the day its got us mentioning 'shredded wheat'... job done! advertising is really just about getting the name out there and in the front of peoples mind for when they next get lost in the supermarket I don't have a prob with 'northern' being in the media..don't really care if its not all perfect and don't expect it to be (as in the film) its just a shame that whenever it is its always the same!!! which we all know is a tiny part of its history and a small part of the soul scene today and as far as the baggie fashion goes its upto you if you wanna wear it but it doesnt look good to most people..70s wont go down in history as a particular good decade for clothes full stop...unlike the 60s which is why steve catos short film which this ad tends to copy looks a lot cooler IMO and would certainly bring in more kids? sadly its how things are today I suppose..any mention of scooters will always talk about a few times in the 60s when a few hundred mods went on the rampage..don't talk about every year the 80s when between 3 and 10000 scooterists(some mods)..went on the rampage every 3 weeks all over the country not just in bloody brighton on scoots they weren't covered in mirrors!

cheers Jason..glad you like it

film cd soundtrack? seems to be lots of posts about soul tunes being played in pubs, shops and restaurants etc lately on fb and they all seem to be tracks from the film
-
had a few plays this year in the sw too
-
this isn't aimed at anyone or any post in particular but it never ceases to amaze me about how people bang on about how 60S rnb and funky EDGED SOUL shouldn't be played and is only played as there is no northern left to discover but dance to what IMO is pretty shit soulful house at best..regarding bob Sinclair
