  1. I agree.. without doubt the North Lancs weekender is like a big family party...it comes complete with a fantastic sprung dancefloor in Smokeys too. This year for the first time there is going to be a top of the range bespoke sound system in Smokeys...provided by the Soulful Dance guys...driven up the M6....rigged...and a sound engineer thrown in for good measure too. I've lost count how many top dj's there are now, giving their time for free. The whole weekend is built on kindness and generosity.
  2. Far far too many to name one, some of the greats posted already.
  3. Beat me to it.
  4. Why the surprise, it's a great soul record. As far as I know not on a 45, but I way be wrong.
  5. Me and Phil used to get emi lps off Pete Lawson to sell at the Legion Spring/Summer 74. The 1st emi i got was "Blowing my mind to pieces" b/w "Case of love" Jan 73.
  6. How did I forget about Derek & Janet from Bolton! I saw Chris at the weekend and asked him about Wayne, he told me Wayne has not been out to a soul do for 4 years.
  7. Pete, Richard was playing it in 76, but i don't know about at the Casino, cause i was not going there myself at the time.
  8. No, we have not seen Mick since his 50th, but i've pm him a few times. Not seen Wayne for ages, saw Chris just before Christmas and like you said saw Carl & Maria at Prestatyn and Middleton.
  9. More names from me Wayne (train driver), Chris Sheppard, Big Mick (Bolton), Carl & Maria, Me & Lou. I'll post others when I think of them. When the Thursdays stopped it went to Saturday night and Tom had grests on from all over.
  10. In a Burger King in Florida in 2003. They had a Goldmine CD playing in the backround. As Pete said this is still on here somewhere.
  11. Yes their were quite a few of us went on the train from Accy/Blackburn. Not on facebook sorry.
  12. Ya fine thanks, hope your ok. I saw Tony at Gisburn on Friday.
  13. I know why the Earl Wright demo came about. I was selling a beached label copy at wigan (it was nearly white on the Thumb a Ride side) and you know who got quite excited. Before I could tell him why it was white he was off It had been in a shop window for god knows how long, the other side label was ok.
  14. George Blackwell - Can't Lose My Head - Smoke beige label vinyl press plays to fast..a Pete Lawson project. Hi John, hope your keeping well. I'm pretty sure it was Keith Brady and not Pete Lawson that did this. Both lads were from Ormskirk. It was Keith who was selling them at the Mecca. Yours Dave Taylor.
  15. We used to do the record hunting trips in London in the early/mid 70s. There was me, Phil and Big Dougie, we came down on the train and do the rounds. Cheapo Cheapo, Black Wax, Record Corner, Harlequin etc. One time Phil had his girlfriend Carol with him and we had to do Oxford St. etc as well Had not seen Big Doug for years and than seen him at about half a dozen Nighters this year. I don.t think Phil has been to a do since the mid 80s. The last time I saw Carol was at her 50th a couple or years back.
  16. If you like The Fuzz, you will love the LP with the slow intro (US CALLA/UK MOJO) class,
  17. Hi Baz, all good in their own way. Had great times at all of them. But it's about the best "Second Room" So I will cheat and say "The Highland Room" since it was the second room at Blackpool Mecca. I'll get my coat
  18. Ya the infamous fast George Blackwell, I remember when he took them to the Mecca. Orange label if I remember. Neil and Stewart from Horwich (Soul Twins Mr M's) got one, they rang me up on the Sunday to tell me it was wrong speed. I didn't laugh much honest . I had forgot about Marsha Gee. Dave.
  19. God it's years since I last heard about Delroy Studios. That's how I first meet Pete by getting some emis off him, ended up getting friendly with Pete and little Sean. Also knew Keith as well, wasn't Keith's dad somthing to do with the Church? If you went to Wigan etc back than with them, I might have meet you. Dave.
  20. It's about two years since John left the fold.
  21. It was pretty common knowlege that the cds had gone tits up, but as far as I know the rest of the business is ok? P.S. I didn't read other posts before posting
