  1. Paul, I used to know the names of the Preston lot, can't remember now. but deff sounds like the same crew. They nicked a car (a light blue ford cortina) off a lad I knew him at knife point after a all-dayer at Preston Top Rank . The lad was called Joe Sol, he was about 20 at the time, I was 17. The car in question was involved in a hit and run on the monday night in your town Ormskirk. It took alot of explaining to the police at the time. Joe stopped going to soul do's after, but is brother Pete keep going till the early 80s.
  2. I AM SHOCKED!
  3. I think the A & E would be busy if everbody tried to do the human pyramids.
  4. There was Jr Walker & Edwin Starr one Blackpool I think. Ric Tic & Lou Ragland deff Ritz. I am sure The Miracles? somewhere.
  5. Talkin of being banned, once got throw out of The Manchester Pub in Blackpool, handbags at 10 places sort of thing. Anyway about 4 years later, tried to get in again, the doorman on the door says "I've told you once you're banned"
  6. In Sept 74 the week before the 1st ann, we got a left in a Rolls. When of our mates (Howard) had started uni and got friendly with a lad from quite a rich backround. Anyway H talked the lad into going to the Mecca than on to the Casino. The amount of times we got stopped was unbelievable, because he turned up in his dad's car.
  7. The Blackpool Mecca and The Manchester Ritz All-Dayers, where such great times. With the passage of time, they seen to become one. I can't for sure say which artist I saw where? I know I didn't miss any, and went to most of them with Ian Gillabrand.
  8. No, dance floor level with normal floor now, or it was when the nighters where on a few years back.
  9. Malc, have you never thought of going on Mastermind? Remembering all the words to the song after all these years, very impressive!
  10. Rosemary, I will bring you that photo disc tomorrow. xxx
  11. It was great fun back in the day Ian. As long as I stay off the drink, I shoud be ok, unlike at Neil's All-Dayer at South Cave. I ended up getting pissed and was mooning all over the place, not good at our age. Anyway after that I said I am never drinking again.
  12. Is this the start of botties over Briton pt2?
  13. That's the one I have got. lol.
  14. Paul, your fav two friends from Blackburn, not, used to do there work in there before the Casino opened in the early days. I know because me and Mick from Darwin where on the wrong end of their work along with some nasty lads from Preston that they where mates with.
  15. Right my sister is 11 years older than me and was into rock & roll, so no story there. Apart from me hateing rock & roll because she liked it. A have a cousin who was a little bit older who was into the scene for a while, he stopped going out early 74. He got jumped and rolled after the Mecca, he lived in Blackpool at the time and is was walking home. He was in hospital for a while, he never really got over it. It upset him so much, that he would not go out at night for years. It was not anybody from the scene that did it, I hasten to had. I lost touch with in in the early 80s, no idea what become of him? Fast forward to the mid-90s and we got a invite to a 60th birthday party in Bradford. (same club as the rare and underplayed do is on now) It was one of Louise's Uncle's and I met Lou's Auntie Maureen for the 1st time, anyway we had called there on are way to some all-nighter. We had some lads with us, Maureen asked we we where going after, so we told her and she said is the still alot of gear at nighters? She went on to tell us of her times at the Wheel and Central and told us about some of the Yorkshire lads and lassies she mated about with back than. That's it with members of family and the scene. BTW I think you can had Mick to the Moore's family as well. lol. Dave.
  16. Up date weekenders up 2 to 16 All-nighters we have come up with 58 so far. I forgot about all-dayers, have a think about them.
  17. I don't smoke, and it is rare as hen's teeth that I ever drink at a soul do, I always drive. What I have had is operation on my spine, both knees and my left hip.
  18. I went about maybe half a dozen times when it was a normal night, early or mid 90s and once to the all-nighter, around 2000 I think. Still got a couple of C-90 tapes some where from the soul nights. It was a right bastard of a drive to get to, when you came off the M6 at Stoke it seened to take forever to get there.
  19. Martin, I hope Terry is not reading this, he won't be able to get a hat big enough to fit him anymore.
  20. Why would anyone want to?
  21. Very nicely put Sir.:hatsoff2:and I, 100% agree.
  22. Well I don't own any speedos, but I do have a whistle, but in my defence I was a Ref in the local league in the early 80s.
  23. I don't think I could remember all the do's in the Manchester area that I have been to, let alone the whole country! I do know that I have been to fourteen different weekenders over the years. (this was nine when I 1st typed it lol) I will try and have a think about All- Nighters, and get back to you. Normal soul nights not a chance of remembering them all. It is forty years this year since my 1st Soul Night, (Blackpool Mecca) over that if you count local Disco and youth club days.
