How I Spent 21 Years Looking For A Record
Joefromupnorth replied to Pete S's topic in All About the SOUL
Reddington's " RIIIIIIIDE " ( say it rude boy style) again on the net , you'll find them on " Netsounds " i think it sounds like they are one and the same ?........been awaiting a record from them now for a month or more -
Can't wait to hear it mate !!!!
-
Not over the phone Harry , give me somewhere like the houses of parliament and i'd drive em all into the river with my high notes
-
If its a male solo it could be Gordon Brown....."I've got a problem, I've got a problem, And it's growing daaaaaaaaay by day"

Fresh sounding i would agree but Chalky is bang on , a shed load of proper northern sounds would leave this in the shade , imo of course......but a few " names " have pushed it now so it no doubt will be big.

Sadly most mentioned up to now are down to one thing , being played out.......if rested they soon become fresh,to me anyway...its a vicious circle , a record is played and loads are up dancing to it so its played again and again month in month out....strange thing is some never seem to tire of em. Then you have bums on seats when out fresh is played , i'm talking more the soul nights here and most have an element of "baggers" who are'nt serious as its just a monthly night on the drink with a dance thrown in hence repeats and more repeats !! Now i'll name my choice and it has said group clammering for a place on the floor, millie jackson......house for sale......she can do better we all know that........it's cheeeeeese. only my opinion lol.....what do i know !
-
The place will come into its own once global warming kicks in !!! teneriffe and lanzarote won't get a look in.......80 coppers , was it really worth the entire welsh force turning out to pull in six having fun ???......surely the towns at kicking out time would have had more in the way of trade for their "xmas party fund " ......you really have to question their prioritys.
-
I think your correct , it was played then and other times also.......a cracking tune !!!
-
Agree this needs to be played , i ain't a dj in the sense but occasionally get a chance to spin a few early at local soul nights , late spots are always taken !!!....played this twice last year but no reaction , in the north east anyway....no doubt if it was spun at say middleton it would be well received......just needs a mainliner to give it a go.

Agree , my last couple of years at school , it had a uniform but not compulsory.....i went in levi sta prest , ben sherman , red socks , oxford shoes lol....what a uniform !!!!.....many of us dressed alike ,we seemed to cause alarm at school , one day the deputy head gathered us all dressed the same in the hall from where he began to tell us we were wearing the uniform of " thugs who kicked peoples teeth in at football matches"......this was 71/2......the music was limited at that time to the usual motown fair and just one or two "classics" as they are now known....on leaving school those i still hung about with watched these older lads in the local town with interest , they had been going to a club called the "torch" and now went to another called "wigan casino"....they had the clothes and the lambretta's.....and a group of us living within yards of each other in our village all bought one , among us we had 2 gp 200's , 1 gp 150 , 1 gp 125 , an sx 200 and an sx 150........sadly all but myself dropped em after a short time......i then had to ride into the local town and knock about with the many lads who were fast buying em......trips to len's of shipley or lambretta land bradford on a weekend for spares were common.....in a car of course lol.....to quote tyronne davis.......wish i could "turn back the hands of time" waffle over.

Well put across mate , i enjoyed reading......i should have read the whole thread before posting but jumped in early.......Had some great times at scarborough back in the 70's...always wish i still had my lamby now !!!!......it was stolen in about 78/9 by a " new kid " got it back after much detective work and some menacing but sadly it was stripped and wrecked , that just finished it for me......besides many had left the fold due to marriage etc so in a way that was my full stop. Now , jesus i was gobsmacked when i first went to a rally.......you lads today have my total admiration and respect.......the cash spent , the miles travelled......amazing stuff , one thing that spoils it for me though is the clobber worn.......but have to say more practical than an open face helmet and a pair of driving gloves !!!! anyone at winsford tonight fancy a crack about scooters give me a shout lol.
-
Have'nt read right through this thread yet so somebody may have already seconded what Trevski's said here , had my first lambretta in 73.........We were called by others " Scooter Boys" ( see my 66 Tv 200 on my profile taken in 75)......minor point but important to me as i did cringe in 79 with Quadrephenia etc etc......most who jumped on the back of that did'nt get further than listening to the beat , specials , etc etc.....obviously some stayed the distance and are still to be seen today at scooter rallies.

Good to know i ain't the only one moaning about this , in the main we are talking about a certain blokes promotions are'nt we and to whom i bear no malice and as always i point out i only wish my comments to be constructive. The effect the constant repeats had on me was to drive me away from attending , it was becoming that annoying i found myself making mental note of all the repeats instead of enjoying myself !...quite a few others also stopped going to certain events because of this.....really there is no need for so many , a few are inevitable but half a dozen and more repeated up to five times in say 10 hours is hopeless......but the events to which i refer choose to play from such a very narrow band of records this has to be the result and the bottom line in my book is its down to the bloke at the helm. The other side of the coin is , folk still attend in large numbers and appear to enjoy themselves so as long as the cash flows in then nothing will change.

No , its the one with , the casualeers.....al wilson , help me......jimmy breedlove... ila vann and few more.......but sadly it was blighted with.....wayne gibson and javells.....still nice to have back then.

cheers pete......so long ago , maybe i'm thinking of that other value for money lp pyes " great disco demands ".......dodgy title like but another great long play. one or two lads i know smack in the centre of the cover !!!...
-
Thanks Helen Not often a lady agrees with me lol......some lads i know from the mid 70s just feel they could'nt do a niter so don't try , i'm of the oppinion " your only here once" go for it.... soul nights should present no problems for even the most senior of us should they ?time enough for slippers and cocoa lol...... have'nt made barnsley yet due to it being a friday but i'll get there in the end !!!
-
Our parents just did'nt have any taste did they used to get " is that what you go to that wigan place to listen to " £15 for the player ey , what would that be in todays money ??? enough to fill your fuel tank lol....
-
I always thought i bought this in 75 ????....what a crackin lp it is , full to the brim with rca gems !!!......wish , as i'm sure we all do i could turn the clock back , be back in my ma's front room banging off the furniture......brilliant days.

First time ive aired this view in public so to speak , what really peeves me is the 7:30/8:00 start to a soul night. We always try to make the start to get a worthwile number of hours in.....sometimes having driven for two or more hours. Sadly its an hour or so later before a place has anyone in,maybe everyone thinks "nobody will be in until 9:00" !!! then, and does anyone agree with me here , ive heard some great sets played the first hour or so...and many times ive heard this said " they should have been on later"........usually someone who the promoter/s maybe don't see as good enough to make way for later on when " they " need to be at the decks. Those late in have missed the set and maybe something a little different to what will be played in the peak hours , then with a place just really getting going the same crowd almost to a man/woman are starting to make their way home again......they must have had three hours at most !!!!.........was it worth making the effort to come out ???..this happened at a soul night i had'nt been to before over christmas and a couple of hours almost drive to it , finnish time was billed as 1:30 and by 12:30 the place was all but deserted !!....some of these niggles had me start travelling two and three hour drives to nighters as you know you will get something out of the travel.........glad to say this malaise does'nt effect all soul nights but i think certainly the majority from what others have told me. Main reason imo is the music for most is secondary to drinking and not the other way around as it should be.......back on the thread track now lol......i do agree a finnish time should be there on any promotion to help you decide to attend or not.

The tickets should have had a hologram and that way this incident would have never occurred......of course i have no knowledge of cost etc but when tickets costing £20+ are in danger of being copied on i would imagine any pc and printer set up this would be worth every penny extra they would cost. Sadly i knew this would happen , in fact many friends also voiced their concern too.....it only needs one person to want to capitalise on a weak point.......ive had tickets costing a tenner with holograms so surely penny pinching pure and simple was to blame for all this grief. Wilst i'm writing about the Whitby incident , can i just once again air my view and that of many others about the weakest point of any of krl's events...(hope Kev reads it of course and maybe improves things)......"repeats" , of late it has put me off events i would have once attended and i are'nt alone.....three four and even five times some of the classics are played at nighters even , spread out over a weekender of course some repeats will be welcomed and inevitable.....but sadly lots of records/classics the dj's will have with them go unplayed i'm sure all the punters would agree with me here.....seldom does this happen at other nighters/ soul nights run by others so surely someone should take responsibilty for this and improve the situation. One dj who shall go unamed can come on and play sometimes four or five in an hour after some have been played only the previous hour or two !!!!.......the other side of the coin , one nighter i attended in the north west , one dj in the early hours put a record ( can't recall what now) on and someone mentioned to him it had been played before midnight....the guy was so apologetic , i just thought , god he should'nt worry.....how different is this? What i write here is purely constructive and not a pop at anyone.
