I remember that niter all too well. I travelled up in a car with Guy Hennigan and Dean Anderson. We arrived at the venue late in the early hours and as we approached we were excited to see what looked like an enthusiastic crowd trying to get into the venue. However, as we drew up we realised the crowd were in fact a mob of locals trying to storm the doors having already set about the local plod. We were trying to come up with a stealthy exit strategy when the whole racist mob turned in unison, looking at our car, and the cry went up 'Get the '******' (Dean shares Marvin Gaye's good looks, if not singing ability!). Cue reversing down the hill @ 50 mph and driving around for an hour or so before we got in. When we did get in, it was pleasing to see that Pat Brady had slapped a couple of them when they had got too near to his tunes, but then the bricks started flying in which is not particularly relaxing when you are on the wrong end of a good night's worth. The way back was even worse, massive blizzard, car stuck in drift for hours, first pick up truck got stuck in snow and when eventually rescued the sweat from my hand had frozen! All in all, I can happily wait for the reactivation of that night. All best Ion PS I think I may have been one of the 'mods' set about at Leicester Oddfellows - the good old days eh!

WILLIAM CUMMINGS MAKE MY LOVE A HURTING THING BANG BANG Has this been found because there has been about 3/4 on sale within the last month or so ? It has never been anywhere near as rare as price would indicate. The bowl had it as stock for less than a tenner for most of early/mid 80s. All best Ion

Hi, Sean McLusky and I did a couple of nights there in late 80s/1990? under our London's Chosen Mass but Sean had definitely used it before. I seem to rememember all of the nights were midweek but well attended. Sean always enjoyed putting on dos in less 'obvious' venues and between us we managed to use a masonic hall, a strip club, a cinema, a dance studio and a snooker club over the years. I had Searling's old and at time only copy in mid 80s. It had been one off for 10 years. I paid £180 off Ray Evans which was a fortune at the time and nearly lost it the first weekend under the influence...A few have turned up but I think they all came from someone associated with band/label 9which is an Arctic subsidiary) All best Ion

Hi, I was interested to see the comments re the potential unissued Derek Martin sound that was posted earlier. I have owned the Associated Studios acetate for 10 years or so and I was told it came out of Teddy Randazzo's collection. It just has the title on it and is uncredited. Butch spun it a few times before I prised it from him and I played it as Brooks Odell c/u. I was not sure who it was but I thought that it may be Derek Martin some time ago having noticed the vocal similarity to 'Sly Girl' and the Randazzo link. My interest was reignited recently when I listened to the Darrell Banks Atco LP where there is a song with a very similar backing track and there is an obvious Derek Martin link.
