Canterbury and Soul Town were financed by the Mattel Toy company.
Bobby was a shareholder and Head of A&R for both label's.

Not sure if this qualifies the thread, but I bought Tony Jebb's Our Love Is In The Pocket JJ Barnes knowing full well it was cracked. Just had to own that piece of Torch history!

A very sad day indeed. A nice fella who kept the music popular in his region. RIP

Yes I agree it is much inferior to the vocal version and much shorter in length-I was working at Selecta Disc in Nottingham when we asked Kama Sutra to repress 500 copies of the vocal version for us-as it was deleted at the time. When they camein they were identical to the vocal-but I happened to play one before we started selling them.We were really peed off cause they had pressed the instrumental by mistake-so we sent the stock back and they then rushed out the vocal which didn't do anything for them sales wise.To be fair there may have been one or three that didn't get returned!Alan Day was working with us at the time and he may still have one>and obviously I don't know what they did with the 496 returned copies!!!!
Hiya Dave-Kev R here. Just adding a bit to the story of the Instrumental. The guy who actually mailed it out for Kama Sutra was label manager Dennis Berger. I met him when he had the same role at Route in 1975(I licensed him The Flasher!). Dennis had sent the vocal over with it's original flip side, but on the tape spool the short instrumental was on first and whoever cut the master clearly didn't follow DB's instructions. It was a just a case of several errors along the production line.
DB mentioned he had one and knew it was a 'collectors' item..........hope he's alive and well and has one for sale
All the best from Arkwright St

You don't really help yourself. You often come across as arrogant and making comments such as "What a dickwad comment. Basically you are not only insulting the country's most successful All Nighter but dissing the DJ's who work there" just alienate people further.
Which part of the Kings Hall Stoke faithful are being alienated?
You don't go so what's your problem.

Have not been on here for ages used to love KH but stopped going because of these problems..... What a horrendous attitude Kev Roberts very sad and disappointing. Hope the OP is okay you have conducted yourself admirably......
Here's more......go away quietly. Jim.....any chance of locking the thread mate......the usual suspects will feed off this for the foreseeable future.

Kev, you're like one of those representatives the oil giants put in front of the TV cameras to explain why their containers keep shitting themselves , except you are the owner of the company, take responsibility and clean your Fooking mess up!!?
We are fine and doing ok thanks..........

Chalky- Most events have little or no security and are winging it week in week out.
At least we do it right. And back on topic, we are still waiting for the complainant to come forward and give us something to go on or maybe he's enjoying the batting of the ball to and fro and getting off on it......Cynical this Northern business.

Still waiting for Jim to inform us who the culprit might be so we may start an investigation. That sound fair to all members?
Still sounds odd to me that he chose a forum that would indeed get a response as opposed to reporting it at the venue to either the promoters or security.

Hi Kev. What were the 10 security guys actually doing there apart from pocketing a proportion of the takings? Do the security team maintain a presence in the main room? Were there any female security personnel in attendance as they can be more effective than males when keeping the riff-raff out? Appears there is a security issue at the Kings Hall and at least one unpleasant customer should be prevented from entering in future. Would be interesting to hear if anyone on SS witnessed the incident in question and could relay the details to you via PM.
Hey, let's ban the guy for life. No problem. Who is he, what's his name. Jim the topic starter appears not to want to tell us.
-
Jim- First thing you should have done is to report it to the Kings Hall security. There were 10 guys there to help!
If you have any further information for me, just pm me and let me follow through. Fair enough?

Hardly the sharpest tool in the box are you ? . Never mentioned the nighter . Insult grow up .
Bye for now zzzz
-
As someone involved with a promotion and if something like this happened then I too would be wondering why it wasn't reported to the promoters or security. As Mick says (and he has more experience than most) security cannot stop every incident but if something is missed and not reported then things cannot be improved for the benefit of all.
Absolutely Chalky. Mick is right. Shame a couple of attention seekers on here don't get it.

This is a soul forum for like minded soul people to converse about our experiences. He experienced an incident at your event and shared it with his fellow members of soul source not golden 101 forum. rough with the smooth happy to take the pats on the back but sulk when someone complains the joy of promoting. as for calling someones opinion being an insult you need to get a grip sounding like a person how no longer allowed on the forum.
It's another indigestion tablet tonight.

So Kev some poor bloke gets nutted at one of your events and you see it as an opportunity to tell the world that its the countrys most succesfull allnighter . Not a ounce of concern about the guy that got twatted .
And you have the gall to say I make dickwad comments . Like I said don't go to Stoke .
Not that I,m really that bothered just curious , how have I insulted the DJ,s ?
Concerned....of course I'm concerned. But the guy never reported anything to me or security and then comes on here looking for sympathy.
The 'don't go to Stoke' is an insult....the punters do not agree with you and neither do I....end of.

Over the past 30 years i have been dancing, but never have experiance so much anger on the dance floor.
on saturday at kings hall stoke, there was a bit on trouble between me and a what i can only say a handbagger.
this trouble started when this guy (yes it was a man) ,was dacing backwards towards me so i put mh hand on his back just to let him know i was there, which he then nutted me i the head but i just ingnored him.
to this day from going to the casino and other niters putting your hand on some was the norm so not injure each other. My point i am trying to get across is is norhtern soul to comercial and every tom DICK and harry just jumping on the band wagon. P.S my heads ok he just a dick.
Can we ask why you did not report it to security and the promoters? The offender could have then been ejected and banned for life. Just sayin.......

Don't they have security at Kings Hall? If management and security at any venue let these f*ckwits in and are not prepared to stop idiots acting the tw*t on the dancefloor as they try to impress some lass then sometimes matters need to be taken into your own hands.
Me, if someone nutted me I'd drop the cnut, with a chair if necessary, providing I wasn't unconscious
More security than you can shake a stick at. How come the complainer hasn't reported it to the promoters or door staff. I wonder.......
