untilPreviously arranged for similar dates 2020/2021. We are now on June 17-19,2022 This has been caused by the pandemic uncertainty and logistics in getting 7 live acts from the USA to the venue.

Mortonette is a dear friend who appeared for us at Soultripusa 2018 in Vegas. She performed Don’t You Care Anymore with Sonny Turner’s band. She spent most of her career as lead backing vocalist for Paul Anka. I spoke to her two weeks ago and she’s doing fine living in Nevada

Goldmine released the title as they had the rights to Frank Bedinelli’s catalogue. The CD release was from master tapes I believe.

Yes. From the same source. Unreleased Festival single. I don’t have a scan but Google should have one. Charlotte Stokes- Is This The Price I Have To Pay(Tip) from the same source too.
-
The track was released on a short vinyl run by Festival Records owner Herb Abramson. Guide vocalist is Ken Williams. I was the UK distributor, sadly it didn’t sell due to the poor quality. Herb was a friend of mine and is best known as one of Atlantic’s founding fathers in 1947. Effectively the demo prior to the Bobbby Treetop release.

Here are the facts again........Dave Godin intimated to Bill Downs his US counterpart that the Northern scene was strong. Greg Carmichael was requested to create something after listening to several tracks submitted by Bill. I was in and out of his office in New York regularly from February 1975 and he told me. I saw the whole Right On label unfold, met Chris Bartley, Sandra Philips although at the time more interested in Bill’s Jelly Beans and Ad Libs 45’s a decade or so before. Patrick Adams re-confirmed the scenario above after chatting about my Northern Soul Mystery Men podcast. Come Back.....The Fantastic Puzzles was recorded following a discussion between Godin and Downs for their Right On label. Hope that’s a bit clearer. The above was in reply to Merve not Benji. Thanks

Never quite figured out why Greg Carmichael had it issued on New Moon. He was an intelligent guy who sought opportunities. I remember dealing with him in early 1980 licensing Dance Freak- Chain Reaction for my Destiny label.
-
The single came about after Dave Godin suggested to his Right On counterpart Bill Downs(Ad Libs manager) that a Northern style 45 might make for an interesting release. Greg Carmichael was hired to create such a track. He enlisted the services of his friend Patrick Adams, who was somewhat familiar with the sound and feel requested, having worked on The Carlettes in late 67 for Bobby Robinson and then the Exciters for Herb Rooney and Ian Levine. Bill was a friend of mine and I remember being in his office surrounded by tons of Right On and Puzzles 45’s. His label manager at the time committed suicide(drug related I believe) a few weeks after I last saw him in late 75/76. He was British and name eludes me. As for the make up of the group, I’m not sure it was the same exact lineup as the Fatback, one, but they were assembled by Greg. One of the best tailor made styles ever in my opinion

Picture a world with no more soul events
Goldsoul replied to Speedlimit's topic in All About the SOUL
I haven’t commented because I simply don’t know. Clearly venues will start opening but it’s going to be awhile before the scene is anywhere near normal. Sadly I cannot report anything you don’t already know. One would assume some events will survive others will fall by the wayside. For now it’s a case of grin n bear it -

A very clever piece of tomfoolery by Ian. He certainly didn’t need to ‘scratch any copies’ nor did he sell it for high sums. However, it was inevitable that while he slipped out copies to US dealers, it would surface in the UK by traders(and a fair few) looking for profitable sales. Strange how only Ian L gets the blame though.

RIP Eugene Thomas (Epitome Of Sound)
Goldsoul replied to Blackpoolsoul's topic in All About the SOUL
EUGENE ‘Jean Thomas RIP Sadly the legendary lead singer of one the scene’s greatest ever 45’s You Don’t Love Me has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family and group originator Robert Paladino. My journey with ‘Jean’ started in 1974 as one of the original Wigan Casino team, who helped break the phenomenal side on Sandbag. I had the good fortune to meet label owner(Mike Szymanski) and producer Tony Camillo(RIP) before connecting with Robert. Eugene appeared for the first time ever performing the song at SoultripUSA Orlando https://youtu.be/qAL-aggJ2fw Later an appearance at the famous Blackpool Tower performing both sides of his classic in front of 2,500 enthused Jean beyond belief. A truly beautiful man who is loved by not only his family, but the entire Northern Soul collective. Rest In Peace my dear friend. Thanks to Andy Lothian for letting me know. -
UPDATE: THE 5th BLACKPOOL INTERNATIONAL SOUL FESTIVAL. Firstly, thanks for your patience and understanding over recent weeks. In these exceptionally difficult times we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the event which was due to take place over the weekend of June 12th-14th. The re-scheduled date, when we will come back bigger and stronger than ever, is confirmed for June 18th-20th, 2021. All tickets already purchased for June 2020 will now be automatically transferred to this new date. We have spent the recent days talking with all the artists who were due to appear this year, and we can now confirm that Maxine Brown, Barbara Mason, G C Cameron and Jimmie Delphs have all agreed to appear next year, and, to ensure that it's our best event to date in 2021, I have also secured the services of three more legends of our music : Betty Harris, Darrow Fletcher and Dean Parrish! So, seven wonderful American acts for us all to look forward to in June 2021! If you require any further information on the ticketing side of things, please email to: ticketquery@wgbpl.co.uk Please be patient whilst your query is dealt with as the venue are currently dealing with other rescheduled events. For their added safety, the team there are all working remotely at the moment, but please be assured that we value your support. Please note: We will soon be on sale to NEW customers for June 2021 at NEW prices, and we will keep everyone updated on this via our website: https://www.blackpoolsoulfestival.co.uk Of course we would have loved to run as planned this June and to welcome you all to one of the most eagerly-anticipated soul weekenders on the calendar, but we are determined to come back stronger than ever next year, when we are all in a better place and ready to celebrate all together, in style. Sending love and hope to you all, The Blackpool International Soul Festival team.

If Martin ‘Tad’ Alsop is on here, he may have images of us at Soultripusa 2004. Pat & Lolly joined us and were great fun.
