Kev replies.. I do a lot of well paid commercial nights. That's where I play CDs, as I refuse to carry 1,000s of Tamla type singles for a crowd who only want the music. I don't play CDs at bona fide top drawer Northern nights. As for Brian...no idea.
  3. Phew....I'll pass your comments through to TOP 500 DJ's Butch, Soul Sam, Mick H, John Poole etc Staggering blindness.
  4. Quite why anyone suggests that Stoke is some kind of cheesey oldies venue is beyond me. The facts; 1. Three of our DJ's-Butch, Soul Sam and Mick H could pretty much blow away most DJ's in the 'non oldies' department. 2. Our Oldies policy is second to none...hence we are FULL! Check Stoke out on October 3rd and see the UK's leading All Nighter.....since 1996.
  5. Hi, Hope you can help. The Kings Hall, Stoke has been running for 13 years and, we are trying assemble a fresh batch of photos for our web site under our 'Goldsoul Gallery'. If you know of anyone who has any images that are already downloaded and could be easily transported via email, I would be very grateful. The appropriate credit will be given for the ones we use. email; sales@goldsoul.co.uk Thanks muchly, Sam x
  6. I got a call recently from a US journalist writing the full warts n all story about the iconic 45. As a former owner of the single, the journo asked me to confirm what I knew of the single's history. He then mentioned his detailed interview with Frank who spoke of the actual session in the Autumn of 1965 at Audio Arts in California. The session players were Carol Kaye, Glen Campbell, Al Delory among others. Has anyone else heard anything similar? Following his appearance in Fleetwood in 2000, FW revealed it was recorded in LA. I never realised 3 White session players were on the Worlds Rarest Soul 45!

  8. Andy.....Kev here. Look forward to seeing you on Sat.
  9. Best ask Sam or Butch. We have given them a room to develop an alternative to the main room. If it works....we will be happy for them. The paying public at least get the best deal. No extra cost for 3 rooms. Let's see what happens.
  10. The room is small. 150 max Yep. Butch and Sam are the guvnors regarding that room. Best of luck with your job application!
  11. Enough already..... Soul Sam and Butch brought the idea to us, not the other way round. If it works fine, but world domination! Cmon get a grip We are professional promoters with a passion for the music too. Best of luck to Middleton, Lifeline and other venues who promote Northern Soul. We are no different to any other event organisers trying to make a success while enjoying the social and musical aspect. If the Upfront room works fine, if not, no problem. Soul Sam and Butch are the hirers and firers in that particular room. As Mace says, it won't make much difference to other promoters, unless someone clashes, which my friends is inevitable.
  12. Hopefully this thread will end shortly, otherwise Dave and Sarah will start billing Goldsoul for Ronaldo type wages. As a DJ/promoter maybe I can offer a brief insight as to why 'Dave is God' For those who are unaware how he developed the Oldies scene before the word was actually used within NS circles, let me enlighten you....more importantly why haven't you read it in my book Dave Evison stood behind the decks in 1974 watching my DJ box while I went to the loo. The venue was Top of the World, Stafford(yes long before the All Nighter of the 80's). Keith Minshull and I were the residents on a Monday. Losing my train of thought while talking to the manager Tony Marshall, I realised the record had ended and flew downstairs, while observing panicky Dave searching for a suitable track to play. My box was locked, leaving only the Saturday night jocks pop/disco singles available. Dave took 'Move On Up'-Curtis Mayfield mumbled a few words and to my amazement...the floor was rammed. Remember, the Northern scene back then was totally fixed on the current biggies/Rarities at the time. Wigan, The Mecca etc had no outlet or market for Don Covay 'Its Better To Have' and such like. Dave opened the doors to a more relaxed, less intense way of listening and indeed talking about Northern 45's....in fact he became The Pope of Northern Soul. People often ask why I use the same names at the Stokes, Blackpools, Whitby's etc. A no brainer for us...they are the most popular and best loved by the masses. Dave will be on stage at 11pm on Saturday at the UK's premier All nighter venue in his hometown, delivering full floors to a 40 year variety pick n mix from The Matador-Major Lance to I'm Gonna Walk-Mickey Lanay....now that's talent backed up with credibility, likeabilty and most of all ABILITY! Arise SIR DAVE Kev
