  1. I will scan the full audio of the interview we did in 04. In fact, I hope to re-run it on Sky this Saturday 10am-12 noon. I believe he was much older than 59. Although his discography suggests May 10,1951 as a birthdate. He formed the Dramatics in 1962. Either way....awful news.
  2. I think you are following a false trail. Our events are generally full and better organised than most....hence the numbers. Our feeling(not policy) is...if there's a Motownish/Handbag crowd in, I have no problem with CD's and or Laptops. You won't see that at Stoke or any other RARE SOUL gig we promote. However you might see it at Long Eaton, traditionally a regular hit soul night. 700 attend....not one person has ever complained. The only stupid comments without any foundation are on forums!
  3. Keith is a different animal entirely. Our Friday at the Tower Weekender is a Party night. And though the rest of us are playing vinyl, Keith, who is not a collector, but hosts the Soul show on BBC Radio Lancs, I find it perfectly acceptable. His brief is to play very commercial Northern. I don't want to hear Helpless-KimWeston off scratchy vinyl either. Anyway....who's promotion is it...mine or yours. If it offends...don't go.
  4. Exactly what I said near the start of this thread. Thanks for outlining the difference. Any chance you can hammer it home 'Tevez/Bellamy' style to some of the thick sods that sadly don't get it and continually ambush threads such as this without any thought or reason.? Sorry about your loss yesterday at the Bridge. Your former hometown crushed us 5-0 yesterday! RARE Nights and QUALITY/Enthusiasts SOUL Nights-OVO HANDBAG Nights/Parties Motown etc-CD/LAPTOP Simples.
  5. I'm editing one right now, otherwise the usual suspects will be offended.
  6. Nev....Of course I self promote.....I'm a promoter! If you were an accountant, would you push painting and decorating instead? The Rare Room at Stoke is indeed a great one. Thanks All I need now is for you to tell me you're a Sheff Wedneday supporter and it's beers all round!.
  7. Do you honestly think my team at the Kings Hall are not playing the real deal? For crikes sake! Realise the difference between Motown nights, Soul/Northern nights and All nighters. I only subscribe to the Motown night theory of cd/laptop as those punters do not care. My other events are all OVO and I would not want it any other way.
  8. Kev. CDs and Laptops are only acceptable at Motownish soul nights I promote. I think you are forgetting Goldsoul run the Kings Hall Stoke. I make a simple point that Soul night as in 'handbaggers' do not care whether it's vinyl or cd or any other format. Do you frequent Stoke? The strongest line up of jocks anywhere playing OVO.
  9. At last a voice of sensibility.
  10. Correct! Soulnight masses could not care less. Accept it.
  11. At All nighters and weekender's it's OVO all the way. At handbag do's the public could not care less. Most on SS do not frequent these type of events. I am not a fan of playing scratched copies of This Old Heart of Mine on vinyl. The masses hate bad quality. I have the figures to prove that Soul night folk(as in Motown etc) want a good time only. They have no interest in forums, ovo or anything else! As for Nighters and Weekenders, that's a totally different fan base.
  12. Big Soulnight crowds don't go to Lifeline or similar. Soulnight crowds ie Heaven Must Have Sent You couldn't care less whether you play CDs or not. Ask the 700 that go to Long Eaton every month.
  13. The majority who visit Soul nights couldn't care less. Only record collectors have any interest.
  14. If you want to save money on past, present and future cd's go to https://www.goldsoul.co.uk/astore.php We have the new Lou Johnson, Westbound Northern Soul and forthcoming Double Cookin instrumentals album from Kent at 8.98!! Also available 'The Sound of Sidra' from Outta-Sight. These and 1,000's of titles available. Lowest prices...GUARANTEED.
  15. I'll tell you who reminds me of Simon, did you ever see the stand up comic Boris Pincher who played Serge in Beverly Hills Cop. SS was slightly camp without even knowing it! He looks a bit like Frankie Valli too and a major hit with the ladies.
  16. Good call. But Kent may struggle with some of the multi tracks to mix down from. The last time I saw some of them they were in the hands of a French Moroccan guy, who's name escapes me.
  17. Jim. Please try and be nice and lighten up.
  18. I would assume a cinema release.
