  1. Absolutely briiliant. Wonderful harmonies, totally original. Connect with the co- lead singer Bobby Alessi on Facebook. Helluva nice guy!
  2. Matt- Hot on the heels of The Flasher. I gave this to Ian Levine as I thought Wigan would totally shy away from such a unusual groove. I used to meet a Atlantic promo guy on Downstairs Records, New York in 75. He gave me a 10 inch acetate and white label 7 inch. The latter I gave to Levine and still have the acetate. Ironically, 3-4 years later, the very same promo guy gave me another acetate to ' take to England' in the hope of getting plays.....the track.....Le Freak- Chic!
  3. A carver at Wigan....surely not. Lol
  4. Truer words never spoken. Orlando is not the most SOULFUL of areas, but at least it's safe, entertaining and most of all......lots of legends from the likes of Detroit etc have moved down there!
  5. Got a decent Record Collection? Good taste? Think an audience would be interested in listening to your playlist? We are handling a new Sunday Session 3-10 for a fabulous venue in the Mansfield, Notts area starting soon. The emphasis will be on a chill out and if there's dancers to be satisfied, do your stuff! PM us and we'll get back to you. Kev
  6. The legendary venue Longfield Suite, Prestwich will host a new look All Nighter on Saturday, August 21st 9pm-6am. Main room will be Oldies. The 2nd room will be a totally refreshing Freestyle session featuring a selection of new spinners. DJ line up coming shortly.
  7. Rob. Thanks for the info. The reason we don't post up hotel leads, is generally there are plenty in Blackpool. However, as the Weekender in November is generally full, it is best to get sorted early and in turn saving yourself a few quid. A full agenda of what's happening inside the venue will be posted soon.
  8. Knowing Ian's Yorkshire roots.....I asked for £20 he offered 10...so we settled on £11 after 8 hours of deliberation.
  9. Damn...why didn't I insist on a sell on clause!
  10. Yep....great days. Show me a photo from 2007 and you'll see about 40-50 in. Sadly times have changed and Northern and Modern are not the best combination at a niter anymore.
  11. Bob- Lovely to hear from you. Nail that guy down. I need him in Florida! PM me or email kev@kevroberts.com
  12. Dave- Found 2 real corkers for Soultrip. Both Females and never ever been found by anyone. Hopefully they stay off the Internet allowing us an exclusive until at least April 6th! Apologies for the Soulboy interuptus!
  13. Paul. I found the producer of Detroit Soul some 33 years ago. He mentioned the group were from Hartford, Ct. A fun song I used to play at the Casino in 74. Do we know anything about it, apart from they are White and Shimmy likes it?
  14. Now there's a thought. I think Florida will generate quite a few artists that are pretty hidden.
  15. George Clooney sounds good, however a probable Shameless cast member might be more fitting! Lol
  16. It's seems as far back as I worked at Wigan since Shimmy Marcus the Director met me in Stoke to discuss the potential of this film. I took him to the Kings Hall and from that moment, the seeds were planted. Several years later Soulboy is almost upon us. I sincerely hope it keeps the movement going for many a year. Kev Roberts
  17. I can assure you, plenty of great surprises. We never give the game away at this early stage. In fact we spoke to one female act only tonight who has one of the biggest tracks ever and hasn't been seen by anyone! That's the kind of thing that makes Soultrip special and, it will be again. Totally unique and always surprising! Get booking.
  18. Good to see Luther Ingram's If Its All The Sane To You Babe and Jimmy Soul Clark's Cmon and Be My Sweet Darlin added to the movie soundtrack. Universal as usual screwed up and had no information on Julian Covey. They eventually took my word for it, in terms of ownership!
  19. Aye...Seconded...with Holly St James not far behind
  20. The public have demanded somewhere nice. Detroit isn't, regardless of it's history. And we were there last year as part of the Chicago trip.
  21. The Kings Hall has increased in numbers over the last year since the Modern room closed. They work reasonably well at Weekenders and up to around 3am. It's just not a good fit at a nighter. Not our personal choice but the general consensus among customers and regular niter attendees.
