then 'spirit' needs to email us as we have no idea who he or she is!

See you at Stoke on Saturday.

  3. Seeings as you are definitely reading this thread can you answer my question please?

    It wasn't you then?

No idea who 'spirit' is. I'm sure anyone who has a beef with us, contacts us with the usual threat 'if you don't agree with us' we will go to Soul Source.

92 needed compensation at Whitby for counterfeit tickets that had been distributed without our knowledge.

210 got in FREE the following year, using the same threat.

We are unsuccessful promoters and ask the moderators to erase Biggray1 from Soul Source, due to his agenda of personally attacking us at every opportunity.

  8. A tragic loss of one of the 60's top songwriters, phenominal output.

A fabulous person! Met her at the 'Leader of the pack' opening night at the Bottom Line in New York before it made Broadway. She spent around 40 minutes talking to me about her career while Joey Dee and I looked on in amazement.

And what a night that was...Ronnie Spector,Shirley Alston, Paul Schaeffer(David Letterman's Band leader)and just about everybody from the Brill Building.

Ellie.....I Want You To Be My Baby.....RIP

  9. Brian Rae plays CD's, Kev Roberts plays Cd's ... probably many more i'm not aware of. thats up to them i suppose.

I am doin a couple of DJ spots very shortly and i've been buying lots of vinyl lately (at great expense) to try and keep it authentic, also to prevent having my arse chewed by the vinyl police. folk must remember, some of the records ive (and many others have) had since i was a kid are re-issues and some are originals. lots of originals are way out of most peoples' price range so therefore its inevitable 'boots' or re-issues are gonna get played. I love the vinyl, nothing better than cue'ing a tune ready to set it on its way through a PA but if folks want, or have to play CD's then i aint gonna lose sleep over it. live and let live

Kev replies.. I do a lot of well paid commercial nights. That's where I play CDs, as I refuse to carry 1,000s of Tamla type singles for a crowd who only want the music.

I don't play CDs at bona fide top drawer Northern nights.

    As for Brian...no idea.

  10. Imagine if Northernsoul did go main stream and enter into fashion, who or what would sell out?

Its all very well saying that you wouldn¢Å¾¢t play that and you wouldn¢Å¾¢t play this but what would happen if the venue was chocker block full of young kids demanding you play Footsee?

I for one think it would be fantastic if there was a Northernsoul revival similar to the Mod revival in the 8T¢Å¾¢s.

Wouldn¢Å¾¢t it be a joy to see some where like Stoke full to the rafters with teenagers clapping along to Casino Classics.

Quite why anyone suggests that Stoke is some kind of cheesey oldies venue is beyond me.

    The facts;

    1. Three of our DJ's-Butch, Soul Sam and Mick H could pretty much blow away most DJ's in the 'non oldies' department.

    2. Our Oldies policy is second to none...hence we are FULL!

Check Stoke out on October 3rd and see the UK's leading All Nighter.....since 1996.

  11. Hi,

    Hope you can help.

The Kings Hall, Stoke has been running for 13 years and, we are trying assemble a fresh batch of photos for our web site under our 'Goldsoul Gallery'.

If you know of anyone who has any images that are already downloaded and could be easily transported via email, I would be very grateful. The appropriate credit will be given for the ones we use.

    email; sales@goldsoul.co.uk

    Thanks muchly,

    Sam x

  12. I got a call recently from a US journalist writing the full warts n all story about the iconic 45.

As a former owner of the single, the journo asked me to confirm what I knew of the single's history.

He then mentioned his detailed interview with Frank who spoke of the actual session in the Autumn of 1965 at Audio Arts in California. The session players were Carol Kaye, Glen Campbell, Al Delory among others.

Has anyone else heard anything similar?

Following his appearance in Fleetwood in 2000, FW revealed it was recorded in LA.

I never realised 3 White session players were on the Worlds Rarest Soul 45!

  13. STOKE- Kings Hall DATES CONFIRMED

    Dates for 2010; 6th March , 17th July , 2nd Oct , 31 Dec

    Now 3 rooms;

Residents; Ginger Taylor, Butch, Soul Sam, Mick H, Kev Roberts, Chris King, Dave Evison, Nige Brown,Sean Chapman, Neil Jones, John Poole, Liam Quinn, Arthur Fenn, Ady Pountain, Colin Curtis, Bob Hinsley, Barry Maleady plus Guests.

  14. You know i sometimes struggle to get it , next year your february date clashes with ours and we got a couple of the same residents ie the 2 dj's named above ,so how does that work ? but it's nice of you to wish us the best of luck in one line then point out that clashes are inevitable in the next ... inevitable but avoidable if one plans things out.

anyways will be a few of us in on saturday one of the girls birthdays...will kev be there ?

Andy.....Kev here. Look forward to seeing you

    on Sat.

  15. As a matter of interest (and I'm honestly not trying to be a cock here) , will it be a pushed as a rare room or an upfront room?

Sounds picky I 'm sure, but will the DJs be encouraged to play just the rare biggies (that may not work in the main room) so as to fill the dancefloor, or push out unknowns and new discoveries even if the dancefloor suffers?

Seriously hoping for it will be the latter, for all the right reasons......

Best ask Sam or Butch. We have given them a room to develop an alternative to the main room.

If it works....we will be happy for them.

The paying public at least get the best deal. No extra cost for 3 rooms.

    Let's see what happens.

  16. Just going off topic a bit Kev. What sort of size is that room? I've never been to Stoke.

I'm off to email Butch now and ask him for a spot. laugh.gif

The room is small. 150 max

Yep. Butch and Sam are the guvnors regarding that room.

Best of luck with your job application!

  17. Here's an idea Phil. Why don't you have a word with the Kestral Suite about having downstairs as an oldies room? Then everyone will flock to Burnley, Kev Roberts will end up going out of business and you suddenly have the northern soul monopoly. Next stop, world domination!

Enough already..... Soul Sam and Butch brought the idea to us, not the other way round.

If it works fine, but world domination! Cmon get a grip

We are professional promoters with a passion for the music too.

Best of luck to Middleton, Lifeline and other venues who

promote Northern Soul. We are no different to any other event organisers trying to make a success while enjoying the social and musical aspect.

If the Upfront room works fine, if not, no problem.

Soul Sam and Butch are the hirers and firers in that particular room.

As Mace says, it won't make much difference to other promoters, unless someone clashes, which my friends is inevitable.
