  1. Gilly- Tongue in Cheek I know, but it sold 13,000 copies. And even though I say it myself, it's a good starter book for lesser knowledgeable fans wanting the facts behind the scenes most popular songs. It's certainly not for the hard core but extremely popular worldwide and currently unavailable!
  2. Pete- The current volume is awesome. Universal generally have their heads up the backside, but Paul Nixon has dug deep on this one. Shame they don't have the decency and nous to contact Chris King, the real originator of most of this stuff. He still has piles of unreleased tracks.
  3. Written it 3 times over. Give me another couple of years. Lol
  4. Wasn't there a book about the popularity of NS? I think it was called something like 'The Northern Soul Top 500'. Might be worth a read.
  5. We have done and EBay say he hasn't really threatened us. The guy has a 100% trading record so I suspect that has influenced them. He has clearly targeted us for 'game playing' knowing it wouldn't be worth our while to argue. I have to say it's not the first time either. A couple of years ago we sent a £30 record out to someone(valued at 75). He said the condition was not as described. We offered a full refund plus a free single to keep him happy. His response was ' £30 back, £30 in free stuff' otherwise a negative and we'll hammer you on......Soul Source! eBay clearly have decided the customer is always right and it's rife at present to be clobbered. We know other dealers who simply put it down to ' the way it is'. Sadly I think it's going to get a lot worse.
  6. Anyone noticed that a growing number of buyers are using the system to their benefit or worse targetting dealers they know just to leave negatives..for the hell of it!? Not wishing to name or shame such buyers, but we just had an experience that pretty much amounted to blackmail! For example if we don't give him free records totalling £100 the buyer would leave negatives. All over a 99p single min bid that he won! Anyone else suffering at the hands of the new breed of buyer who clearly are excited by Northern Soul. Either that or are seriously disturbed mentally!

  8. A few corrections to various postings. 1. Paul Philips the guy who ran Echoes and still has shares in it today is NOT the same guy who presents for Solar. Neither is he hitmaker behind DRIVER 67......different PP. 2. I should be ashamed, but what the hell. I first played Daylight Saving Time in 1974 at the Casino not Russ. He had enough on his plate dealing with Simon Soussan! lol The venue found itself adoring The Javells , then Gary Lewis fom Richard(played as a joke by him). The dismay on my face at the lack of dance floor action to my then 'exclusives' such as Ernie Marbray, Vernon Greene, Calvin Grayson and The Fabulous Jades-I'll Be So Happy, led me to believe, albeit temporarily, that to win the crowd over, it had to sound like Keith's 1967 side! Tony Cummings works at a Christian Radio station. He joined us for the Casino 30th Anniversary in 2003 at the Kings Hall,Stoke. Kev
  9. Nice one Pete. Michael P is Robert Paladino's brother. Joey Dee had no connection to 'the band. Lovely archive piece.
  10. I took no notice of it at the time. On a 2nd hearing it's pretty good and believe it or not.....Rare! I bought around 1,000 pieces of vinyl of Ian to shove in Soul packs. Had the Interpretations, Sidney Barnes- Standing on Solid and others. Ian was totally being crushed on SS so I didn't even try to sell them. They ended up at £1-2 each! None left now.
  11. It's by Snake Davies and the Suspicions. UK recording around 2003. Pretty good. 500 made. No more copies available. We bought most of them from the label owner.
  12. Alfred Smith is truly a remarkable local talent. I say local because he has spent most of rhe last 30 years working the East LA scene where he had several hits. Incidentally he got the stage name from his manager who lived in the LA suburb Brentwood. As part of SoultripUSA in 2004 he became a friend to most of us on the trip. He was clearly not going to perform for us due to nerves. Old KR had to work his 'oogum boogum' on him!
  13. And a guy appearing at SoultripUSA March 23-April 6. Orlando.
  14. Archie Bell isn't appearing. Firstly he has no passport and knows nothing about it!
  15. Simon, You Get Your Kicks was played at the tail end of The Wheel. David and the Giants both broken by Ian Levine at the Mecca in '74. They were all sounds of the era. Mitch's Kicks has certainly lasted longer the D&G. I personally like Put Your Heart In It - Joey Dee which gets no plays at all but was huge in the Spring of 74. All good memories.
  16. It certainly is Simon and Mitch will be performing it for the very first time to a UK audience at SoultripUSA Sunday, March 27

  18. Glyn- The show is across the UK on FM, DAB, Sky, Freeview, Freesat and on line. Basically it's a peoples choice best of Northern. Whoever emailed, helped create the playlist of the most popular songs. Looking at the list....it's pretty accurate. Enjoy tomorrow from 8pm
  19. Thank you. A bid has been made.
  20. Both at £100 with about 4 days to go... Am I right in thinking they are valued at 200 and 300 respectively? Stock issue and Demo.
  21. Last chance to ENTER and WIN. Hopefully your name will be read out. SUNDAY, August 29th SMOOTH Radio Across the UK! Northern Soul Special https://www.smoothradionorthwest.co.uk/presenters-shows/shows-adrw/northern-soul-special-n3j8/the-northern-soul-show-special/d7cqrjm3/
  22. Not sure if I was the first to find the Black issues on the Holy Grail of collectors items, but Feb 1975 I hit a store in New York and found Dean Courtney, Lorraine Chandler, Ray Paige, Paul Anka, Metros...in fact around 60 titles. The same day I found 25 Ila Vann issues on Roulette. All flogged at the Mecca a week later for around 8-12 quid each. Anyone remember?
  23. Steve- Young Olivia got in quicker than Gareth Bale's volley on Saturday! I wonder where she gets that self promotion from lol
