  3. Hi-What are you willing to pay for Charles Brandy?
  4. Nope. It's straight up. No one is interested in it though.
  5. Dave. Simon Soussan released it in 1975 during his business relationship with Randy Wood. He didn't bootleg it on Mirwood, he had rights ....hence the instrumental. Thanks heavens he did otherwise we might never have got to hear it. It would be good to hear it re-mastered by Kent now they own the catalogue.
  6. Any British for sale? Send me your lists. PM or e- kev@kevroberts.com Cheers, Kev
  7. Al Matthews was on CBS. While producing a single on Linda Lewis in 1983, he sang background vocals for me. He starred in several films, the best being the comedy 'Coast To Coast' along with Lenny Henry and John Shea. Dave Raistrick supplied memorabilia to the production company.
  8. The epitome of a Modern day Pop Soul record.
  9. The epitome of a Modern day Pop Soul record.
  10. I interviewed General and released his 'Bless Your Heart' single a few years ago, this after working with him some 30 years before. A unique vocal. I will edit up a tribute and post up later. For now......the brief history. Johnson made an early start in the music when he began singing in his church choir at the age of six. His recording debut came six years later on Atlantic Records, who waxed his group the Humdingers, although the tracks remain unreleased. In 1961, and following a change in name to The Showmen, Johnson and the group issued via Minit Records the single "It Will Stand." The track was a chart hit in both 1961 and 1964. Although The Showmen recorded other offerings for Minit and Swan, including such hits as "39-21-40 Shape", they split up in 1968.[1] Johnson attempted an abortive solo career before joining the then new Invictus label in Detroit, Michigan. Steered by Holland-Dozier-Holland, Johnson recruited Danny Woods (ex-The Showmen), Harrison Kennedy, and Eddie Custis and created Chairmen of the Board. Their debut single, "Give Me Just a Little More Time", rose to #3 in the US Billboard R&B chart in 1969. Further hits included "(You've Got Me) Dangling on a String" and "Everything's Tuesday."[1] Johnson commenced a career as songwriter with "Pay to the Piper," becoming a modest success for Chairmen of the Board. Other songs he penned were successful when recorded by other musicians. These included the Grammy Award winning "Patches" for Clarence Carter (Jerry Reed also recorded a country music cover version). Invictus Records labelmates Honey Cone recorded the Johnson penned tracks "Want Ads", "Stick Up," and "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show." Also Johnson wrote "Bring the Boys Home", for Freda Payne.[1] Chairmen of the Board's popularity diminshed in the middle of the 1970s, although Johnson and Woods remained together re-billed as the Chairmen. Johnson tried a solo career again in 1979, and his debut solo album on Arista Records was a modest success. He teamed up again with Woods in the following decade, making a living on the beach music circuit.[1] In 1993, having lost little of his distinctive vocal style, Johnson released another album, What Goes Around Comes Around, recorded with Woods. In recognition of the contribution that Johnson has made to American popular music, the Virginia General Assembly designated June 9, 2001 as General Johnson Day in Virginia.
  11. Another couple of future classics from Shotgun Kev Roberts Signal Radio, Smooth and Solar
  12. Dave. Only a guess due to the Royal Jokers That Girl being on Bell and Optimum.
  13. I would say more 1972. The label wasn't around for too long and the Royal Jesters is '73. Could be wrong though.

Where did all that snow arrive from? Oslo is warmer! Looking forward to the New Year as my web sites are getting a makeover- plus we are working on new events in Blackpool, Weston Super Mare. I will keep this month's blog to a minimum as I know planning the Festive Season is both joyous and tiresome at the same time. Hopefully we'll run into each other at one of the Soul events listed above. Have a great Christmas. Until next time...Stay well. Keep in touch via all the usual media..... 15. Russ...it's been a major spin to the masses for the last 20 years. A full floor romping away to it last night at Blackburn. On the subject of the reissue. Nasco masters have been available from day one. I think they themselves reissued it due to a particular order from the UK in the mid 70's( Soul Bowl?). They were easy to deal with and contactable as they still are.
  16. Looking for new designers to create imagery for a record company. Either PM us or email and we'll put you in touch with our contact. The label is a well established outfit who are interested in freelancers who know the Soul market.
  17. After a close listen, I'm going for Moon Williams. It's totally old fashioned in it's stomper approach, but what a vocal from a bloke who's 65 plus! A corking romper!
  18. Pete- I think all these eBay tales need a thread of their own. Honestly mate, it's a sorry tale wherever you turn. Clearly there are 'buyers' out there who are exploiting the system and having it off big style. To put things in perspective, we are merely dabblers these days on EBay but we still wrote off around £500 last year in blatant rip offs. It only seems to be with Soul records too.
