I doubt the group on Mercury had any connection with Ujima. Artie Kornfeld told me they are a White band from New York and mentioned the band members. If your friend has I'm Not Ready by Burning Bush...I would be STUNNED.

I am not sure about the 'blood all over the cloakroom' claim. I was there along with Bob Hinsley and had my bag rifled along with bus ticket, records and Discatron. It certainly lowered the tone of the traditional All Nighter, clearly trying to cash in on the Torch's success. However, trying to add a Northern crowd on straight after the Roxy/Bowie night in the same venue proved disasterous. One wonders how Wigan managed it. Unsavoury to say the least. Still, I met Bob for the first time, he introduced to me Brent and Richard Searling a few weeks later. We are all great friends after nearly 40 years. I wonder who DJ'd that night? Alan Day perhaps.

From Memphis. I first discovered Ten to One in 1975 and sold to Nev Wherry in mid 76. You Fooled Me I believe was unearthed by Rob Smith in 77. The other came slightly later.

He's based on Legendary Lonnie from Stoke. I suggested him to Shimmy Marcus the Director at a location meeting 6 years ago. Curiously, Lonnie's look is similar to Frank in Shameless. A persona that obviously influenced the Director.

Very sad news indeed. I hit his record shop Bobby's Record Wagon, Harlem, NY I975. The first ever copies of The Carlettes(his daughters) on BR and Yvonne Daniels on Sterling Sound came out of there. He shared ownership of the labels Fire and Fury with his brother Danny. The best part of meeting him was seeing two DJs scratching and mixing Bongo Rock- Incredible Bongo Band outside his shop on a really crude but effective sound system. I asked 'what are those guys doing' BR replying 'that's hip hop man, hip hop' Remember that was in '75!! R.I.P BR Kev

I doubt it. The US was cheap to import from back then, with virtually no import duty. 34 years ago remember.

The original was on Canadian Gamma. I first imported around 200 into rhe UK as a new release. Then it was leased to Lindee who had an association with another record I discovered Hipit by Hosanna and Nowhere by Hocus Pocus. Lindee pressed up the single for US distribution and imported around 500. So both are originals from different countries. It sold decently in Canada but failed in the US. That's about all I can remember about it.

Ken- A good observation, but that pressing was made in New Jersey. Quite why the record company added 'Made in Canada' is a mystery. But trust me, Lindee is from NJ. The record was made for me by that company in 1976.

I did import it from Canada as a new release. I was on a New York record pool mailing service and received it on Gamma I think. Not sure of any Detroit connection. New Jersey label Lindee picked it up for US release. It saw a little action in the NY area and of course........Cleethorpes!

I think he wants to release all the classics in high quality. And they do look fantastic. He has good distributor and don't forget most of the bedroom sellers on EBay would not be able to reach many retail outlets, wholesale wise. I wish him all the very best.

I interviewed her last year and she was definitely sounding very 'up'. We were even laughing together at her child actor status in the Beverly Hillbillies back in '66. Totally shocked on this one.
