  1. Hello Wayne, hope all is well with you........How do you get a Cloak to tick anyway !

I was told the vocalist was Steve Brookstein[Winner of the first X-Factor !]........and that it was done before he had entered the competition....It might be a wind up[but its probably true.......].I think it is one of Ian Levine`s records ,the other side sounds like it was made by him. They also

seemed to turn up en mass around the same time as other things he had a hand in did:shades: . Now youve heard that, you"ll probably want another 3 copies to make a set of coasters.I wonder whether Kev can help:D

Personally speaking,i like the "i got nothing but time" side.

    Speak soon mate,

    Ivor

I took no notice of it at the time. On a 2nd hearing it's pretty good and believe it or not.....Rare!

I bought around 1,000 pieces of vinyl of Ian to shove in Soul packs. Had the Interpretations, Sidney Barnes- Standing on Solid and others.

Ian was totally being crushed on SS so I didn't even try to sell them. They ended up at £1-2 each! None left now.

  2. Found this in my box a while back, been trying to get some info on if it`s an original/unissued or a boot/re-issue.

Bought it at Togetherness in early 2yk but i`m afraid i was beered up at time so no re-collection who i got it from :hatsoff2:

It`s on love records but not the Tal Armstrong label(label design looks differant).

A-side is : Coming out of hiding. b-side:I got nothing but time.

Not too clued up on label scans but i`ll try and find someone who is:thumbsup:

Cloak is ticking, let`s see how long it takes for info :g::ohmy:

It's by Snake Davies and the Suspicions. UK recording around 2003.

Pretty good. 500 made. No more copies available. We bought most of them from the label owner.

  3. Alfred Smith is truly a remarkable local talent. I say local because he has spent most of rhe last 30 years working the East LA scene where he had several hits.

Incidentally he got the stage name from his manager who lived in the LA suburb Brentwood.

As part of SoultripUSA in 2004 he became a friend to most of us on the trip. He was clearly not going to perform for us due to nerves. Old KR had to work his 'oogum boogum' on him!

  4. Simon,

You Get Your Kicks was played at the tail end of The Wheel.

David and the Giants both broken by Ian Levine at the Mecca in '74.

They were all sounds of the era.

Mitch's Kicks has certainly lasted longer the D&G.

I personally like Put Your Heart In It - Joey Dee which gets no plays at all but was huge in the Spring of 74.

    All good memories.

There was also a rumor that David and the Giants where also Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels You Get Your Kicks? [/font

I can't hear the connection as Mitch has a very distinct accent? Maybe its because they are both blue eyed soul from sixties Americana?

You Get Your Kicks is still a great record.

It certainly is Simon and Mitch will be performing it for the very first time to a UK audience at SoultripUSA Sunday, March 27

  7. Would have thought that Willie Kendricks- change your ways- was Tough issue just got a Michael & Raymond -man without a woman- again I dont think thats that easy I sold a Gia Mateo demo to a guy from Southend who wanted to drop off on his way To the Fleetwood weekender a few years back and pick it up but I dont recall seeing an issue most of the RCA stuff seems to be Demo's so not sure on these!!

Not sure if I was the first to find the Black issues on the Holy Grail of collectors items, but Feb 1975 I hit a store in New York and found Dean Courtney, Lorraine Chandler, Ray Paige, Paul Anka, Metros...in fact around 60 titles. The same day I found 25 Ila Vann issues on Roulette.

All flogged at the Mecca a week later for around 8-12 quid each. Anyone remember?

  11. Togetherness Weekenders at the Cala Gran Fleetwood

Can anybody tell me what year the 1st one was?

The ones run by Kev and Richard (Togetherness)

Not the ones run by Alex (Southport)

    At a guess I would say 1999 or 2000?

Come on Kev, you should know.

    Thanks Dave.

1998. Brenda Holloway appeared Live. Patti Austin was scheduled but pulled out due to a more lucrative Jazz gig in the Carribean.

We were shocked she chose the warmth of the Sun over Fleetwood.
