  1. Mike also owned Phoof(ala James Coit)....what with the Epitome of Sound he certainly had future 'Casino Connections'
  2. Just as an add on........Mike Rolo was my co-dj at Wigan Casino the Winter of 1973 on a Wednesday night. The venue became so popular by November we had a mid-week slot which lasted around a year I think.
  3. Bob- Spot on. An earlier posting from Rod was pretty thorough and accurate too. Chris Beachley at the Wax Museum was one of the early suppliers of Beach in demanded to the Carolinas. One of my dearest friends John Hook was the voice every Saturday on WBT in the early 80's, who would really push the genre. I would say Beach was at the peak of its popularity during that decade. And like Northern, it refuses to lie down!
  4. He does sound like JR Bailey though. I'll stick with that, seeing as Bobby remembers the recording at Roulette and was the key DJ on wwrl 1600 in New York 1966/67.
  5. Yes Bob. According to a good source, I am saying the Al Wilson on Wand, Rubin on Kapp and Chuck Wood is JR Bailey.
  6. Overwhelming......I must have a lie down. Thanks for the info.
  7. Good to get your verdict. I'll pass on the info to my good friend Charlie Calello.
  8. Steve--Read the post. Not that Al Wilson, but the one who recorded for Wand ie Help Me...Northern anthem.
  9. According to my close friend Bobby Jay, Chuck Wood, Al Wilson and Rubin are JR Bailey......if not, Vernon Harrell. JR is of course deceased, But BJ was very close to JR and after listening to songs at a mutual friends house in New Jersey back in 06, it was 'confirmed' On a separate note, a well known producer living in Florida feels Lainie Hill,Vala Regan and Jessica James might all be Elaine Hill. Jury's out on that one- although my contact played on most of the Dyno/New Voice sessions. Digest that if you will!

  16. Could Smoothwasson and any other mishief makers please remove my/our name..,.we are NOT the promoters of the Prestatyn Soul Weekender. Good luck to Pontins. All the best to John Poole. End of story.
  17. Utter tripe. The producers used us! I feel sorry for the guy who shot the footage and then only used 1 second of his hard work! Awful truly awful. And it needed some narration.
  18. Born Linda Fredericks, she also cut a version of Jackie Ross' Selfish One during the same session with Ian Samwell-Smith(didn't he give Cliff Richard his name?) I produced Linda in 1984 on a Top 30 hit in Holland, cutting 2 sides on her sister Shirley the same year, one being a cover of Yvonne Baker's Didn't Say A Word. Saw her recently at Corrine Drewery's birthday party. She looked well.
  19. John Heathcote from Breadsall, Derby. Aka Hector. Known him since 72. I think he shared a flat with Dr Robert of the Blow Monkeys.
  20. Detroit had a major influence on a fair amount of US city's. Philly, the No.4 ranked market in the US was a perfect hunting ground to pitch the Detroit sound to a larger East Coast white market. My dear friend Jerry Blavat(a 60's icon) who was a prolific Philly Radio DJ received In My Lonely Room- Martha and the Vandellas as a Gordy promo, used his A&R/DJ skills to tip off his close friends Kenny Gamble and Jerry Ross, who in turn re-vamped the Motown hottie into The 81 by Candy and the Kisses. The latter scoring in 1965 and eventually selling more than Martha's epic. A case of Made in Detroit, copied elsewhere, sold to the world. Now where have we heard that before.
