One mainly for Nottinghamshire, but in case anyone had not heard, Brian lost his life aged 71. The driving force behind one of the country's greatest record shops. I first bought 45's off him on Mansfield market around 1969. Opening his 1st store at Arkwright St, Nottingham, the shop was instrumental in keeping the scene popular with the Black Magic label in 1975. In more recent times, the store brand was at the cutting edge of indie music. Brian Selby Mr Selecta Disc RIP.

The Dooley family were based in Ilford, Essex as a showband in the late 60's. Following TV appearances GTO signed them in 1975. I interviewed them when I worked for Magic in the 90's. I even compiled one of the group's tracks for the North of Watford CD series. Lovely 70's Pop. Northern Soul....nah.

That's all good Tony, but try telling that to a fair few acts who were on the label.

Are we talking masters or vinyl stock? If its masters, John Beecher certainly doesn't own them according to the names listed below. Following lengthy discussions with Sheila Ferguson, Tony Galla, General Johnson and Chris Biehler, the consensus is Tony Mamarella owned the label following Dick Clark's departure. Bernie Binnick and Ed Balbia bought certain parts of the stock and tapes that were not in dispute. Product such as The Showmen, Tony Galla reverted back to the outfits that created them. Vinyl stock wise, maybe Rick from Stockport has a few answers.

Firstly, it's The Elgins who are touring. Maybe Hitsville Chalky, the agent has a solo gig for Yvonne, but the dates Sept 21 Stoke, 22nd Blackburn and 23rd Rolls Royce Derby are group led with Yvonne adding 'Just Like You Did Me' off the back of their Motown stuff. For those in the South, The Academy, Basingstoke is the setting on Sunday Sept 30th.

Sean- I have the original Flasher- Mistura including the vocal version(never released) acetate. That was the only copy cut when we came out of the studio in 1975. Happy to loan it to you for Just Soul lol

Sadly not near my scanner, but how about two weird ones. I think I have the only acetate in existence of Van McCoy's guide vocal on I Get The Sweetest Feeling. April Blackwood 1967. Ironically, I got it from Rich Rosen in 1978 for $3! When I worked at Magic in Leeds in the 90's, I bought a DJ's collection from the 60's and found a EMI disc of Shotgun Wedding- Roy C!! Proud to say that You'll Always Be In Style- Ad Libs came from me. Who has it now?

The Prophets led by Billy Scott had a regional US hit with the song in 1968. By 1972 the track was huge in the UK. Selecta Disc Nottingham approached US distributor Eric to acquire the rights. Owned Bill Buster went one step further, having MFSB player Bobby Martin remix the master renaming the group Creation. Following several thousand imports sold, UK Stateside picked it up for British release. Shortly after, Selecta's own Black Magic label issued it too. On a final note, it was to be used as the opening song of the KFC 'Chicken Got Soul' TV campaign several years ago, sadly being dropped at the last minute by my 5th choice I Can't Get Away- Bobby Garrett. 'Fever' is one of the most uplifting Northern sides of all time.

Mark-I knew Ian briefly. Within a couple of months, Russ decided we needed guest DJ's and phoof....he was gone.

It was given away in early October. The reason a badge wasn't made on Sept 23rd, is down to Russ being unsure if the All Nighter would take off. I joined on the 2nd week(Sept 30th,1973). As cheesey as it looks, I'm proud to be part of that piece of history. Right on, Keep the Faith 'Kev'
