  1. What are you offering and I will consider it.
  2. Probably was. Jim would have got it from me.
  3. I think the acetate has TM publishers on the label. A well known music house, a lot of their stuff was mixed into the April Blackwood haul. Oddly enough, I was more impressed with finding a 10 inch reference dub of the Sweet Things at the time, now you would be all on to get £30 for it. The 70's eh!
  4. I sold it for £50 with Johnny Honeycutt and The Cashmeres £100 each. I think that should have told me my days as a record seller were numbered As for the other question ' I bet that was a spine tingling moment hearing that for the first time' .....Remember it was at a time when the biggies consisted of Jamie, Peter Jarrett, Burning Bush etc, so 'I Go Out Of My Mind' sounded like a really good Soul demo, but not for dancing. Probably Richard would have been the only DJ buyer around that had interest in it.
  5. The acetate was discovered by moi in 1977 when I cleaned out April Blackwood publishing's office. The identity of the artist is Van McCoy. He sang lead on most of his song demos. I still have Van's demo of 'I Get The Sweetest Feeling'. From the same haul, I had other crackers such as 'Standing In The Need of Love by Francine Barker of Peaches and Herb. I sold the ' I Go Out of My Mind' to RS around 1978 ish along with Johnny Honeycutt and the Cashmeres.
  6. Archie was indeed scheduled to play Fleetwood several years ago. The IRS stopped him due to monies owed by the singer in his native US. We promoted him at SoultripUSA held at the Hilton, New Jersey in 2006. I asked how he was doing and he replied 'Great...I have the No.1 record on the Country charts' ! Nice man and easy to deal with. I suspect he's had one too many managers/advisors during his long career.
  7. I met Jerry in 1976 at his home in Southampton, PA with his late wife Columbia recording artist April Young. Always remember seeing his acetates including Love, Love, Love (instrumental) now was it Bobby Hebb or William Bonney's backing track!? Never forgot the story he told me about 'In My Lonely Room'- Martha and the Vandellas and him and Kenny Gamble copying it into The 81- Candy and the Kisses. Anyone who had a hand in writing 'I'm Gonna Make You Love Me' deserves every accolade! Super talented JR.......thanks KR.
  8. Totally agree, but very few radio groups operate in that manner. Branding and Profit come first in many cases. Fortunately I'm with a great outfit in Staffs/Cheshire every Sat 6-10. Signal 2 on 1170AM, DAB and www.signal2.co.uk There's a lot of ads to contend with, but the songs are personally chosen, with the brand totally supporting me. Can't really ask for anything more in this cut throat business.
  9. All very complicated but here goes.....Global, owners of Capital bought GMG, owners of Smooth. At the beginning of October they ditched the DAB only sister station Smooth 70's. Consequently the specialist presenters Richard Searling, Myself and Mike Sweeney lost their gigs. Smooth 70s has been rebranded Capital Xtra, a younger new music focus. Smooth Radio re-aligned their presentation gigs to Leicester Square meaning a cull of North West based staff. Former colleague of mine Paul Hollins, based in London will be presenting some form of Soul on Sunday along with daytime Capital presenter David Andrews. Dave Brown as you know lost his gig. Andy Peebles has moved to Gold(Capital's national DAB) Me, I have other Radio gigs up North. Richard is taking a rest.
  10. Over to Andy Dyson, Keith Money, Cliff Steele and Mick H to respond perhaps!
  11. Possibly right Eddie. Kent will have been meticulous in their appraisal of ownership. Sadly it didn't stop certain parties 'claiming rights' and taking money from willing licensees back in the day.
  12. The first supposed legit 7 inch release was via Chris King's Soul series 45 which was distributed by Goldmine. That deal I believe was concluded via Quinton Claunch and Dave Porter, a UK P-Vine representative. Goldmine funded the manufacture after receiving copies of paper work between all parties.
  13. I think Phil Kingswood and Chris Collins the promoters have never made secret of the fact that it's a 'handbag do'. A town like Mansfield has proved time and time again that it supports no other. Sadly.
  14. Namedropper/Attention Seeker
  15. Thanks Ivor - Much appreciated.
  16. Dave. Most of the Atlantic sides were done at Virtue.
  17. John was simply fantastic. Unless it's a Weekender, this type of talent will never be fully appreciated. Bangor by all accounts was pretty good, Blackburn was well attended, Derby was luke warm and a small crowd in Reading. Sad to say, most of the Northern fraternity want to dance to 'I'll Be Lovin You' not witness the original lead singer performing it live. Our thanks to......Steve Thomas, Alan Jones, Richard Searling, Stuart Heap, Derek Mead, Keith Banks and Martin Fuggles.
  18. The Wigan Casino Story this Sunday from 2 on Smooth Radio(FM and DAB( and Smooth 70's(DAB) Guests include Kiki Dee, Lisa Stansfield, Frank Elson and many more
