  1. Fascinating indeed and disputed. Send me a MP3 via email and I will be happy to review and confirm either way. I never had Free- Taking It Away. Richard played it and he's holding it in one of the early Casino publicity shots.
  2. Rick- Pretty accurate. A couple of useful snippets. I started dealing with him in June 1973. My collection was good enough to get me a gig at the Casino largely due to the exclusives I had from him. He dropped me as his golden boy in favour of Russ around April 74. By that particular time he was cash flow rich and in a roll with Selecta Disc, RW and others. The Footsee production is crass, but it is does show the guy's creativity though. Certainly if sales are anything to go by. And my feelings towards it probably cost my relationship with him as I wouldn't bow to his wishes by playing that and his forthcoming productions. A colourful and intelligent character who I still feel was good for the scene. On that note.....hope you are well. Ps Had a great discussion with someone recently on former Swan supreme Tony Mamarella. Fascinating.
  3. No....of course not. I am talking about a great record finder and discoverer. If anyone as Chris L suggested had difficulty with him, I respect their take on him. But I didn't and as far as I know Ian D too. This is is the guy that gave us The Duck/Love Runs Out, Double Cookin, I'll Always Need You, I Can't Help Lovin You, I'm Not Strong Enough, You Don't Love Me to name a few. He didn't steal those and I can't understand where you are coming from. A ridiculously talented fellow with character deficiencies.
  4. I would think an understatement! He was by far, along with Ian Levine the chief discoverer of the scenes golden era playlist of 1974/75.
  5. Yep....how did you think I and similar Souls felt selling(in my case) SandI Sheldon Okeh Demo for £8, Tony Clarke Landslide White Chess DJ £20, Yvonne Baker £25, Professionals Groove City £25. Happy times though.
  6. Yep that was pretty much the norm. Record pressed, original worth a couple of quid more.
  7. Pete- The Sandra Philips and Gwen and Rae were me as I had both as exclusives. It was my copy Soussan used to duplicate. No choice really as he gave me the Sandra Philips!
  8. m Yep it's a bit twee to say the least. I mentioned it to her when she was a guest at Magic in the 90's. Now Georgy Girl....that's a different story. Awesome!
  9. Hardly ever played but I think a few of us tried it and failed. Probably went looking for Rod Shard to see if we could get rid!
  10. I don't think so. I remember when we were serviced the acetate from Soussan, it was another strong exclusive against the might of the Mecca.
  11. I think he persisted with Cats Eyes, Hawaii 5-0, Joe 90 too
  12. Not quite right there Scal.....Detroit Soul was sent to RW, Me and Richard on acetate. I may have been one of the first to find it on Music Town during a US trip in Feb 1975. Keanya Collins was a Mecca play before we had it at Wigan, discovered by IL. Billy Prophet was being played by Pep at the Whitchurch Civic...again before Wigan. The Four Perfections was sent by SS to all of us on the customary Allen Zentz acetates, before finally being uncovered on Party Time. He did however run hard with Yvonne Baker, playing it off acetate and not the Parkway original as none of us knew the identity in those early days.
  13. I have a UK issue on Stateside. Rate it at £40. The demo I value at £100
  14. Looking for a UK Stateside Demo. Any out there for sale ?
  15. The Rubies eh.....I rarely covered up my finds back in the day.
  16. Correction on the Jay D Martin. I first played it the night I found the Jewels. Both purchased from Max Millward in late 1973. To my ears they were unknowns. The Kid was a huge seller as a youth club song way before Wigan. Lynn Randell started at the Mecca with Ian L.
  17. Yep....the very same. Without the 'soul' influence on this particular programme, I endured The Overlanders and Black Lace Fortunately I met a top guy Jeff Christie(Yellow River fame) who's from Leeds. He wrote The Patrick Bradley-Just One More Chance while recording it himself for his group at the time...Outer Limits.
  18. Major was a tricky character and would often create problems for promoter Chris Burton. We tend to overlook it due to ML's legendary status. I was a resident every Sunday at the Heavy Steam Machine in 1974 along with Chris Williams. The venue was completely wrong for Northern due to the 'light show heavy' club feel plus..... a cinema above didn't help. Tony Clarke's Landslide upset quite a few trying to watch BENJI. We were safe though if The TOWERING INFERNO was shown
  19. Kiki is certainly well aware. Well from the early 90's when I was chatting to her at Midem. In fact I still have her email address and dropped Frank Wilson's details to her several years later. I think I mentioned it was around £100 back then......she needs an update! She also took part in a Bank Holiday Special I did for Magic in 1991 titled West Yorkshire Hitmakers. Bobby 'You're Ready Now' Bennett was also on that programme. Ha!
  20. Recorded about 2 years ago just before I left Smooth.
  21. Behind The Hits with Motown songwriter Pam Sawyer - Mixcloud https://www.mixcloud.com/goldsoul/behind-the-hits-with-motown-songwriter-pam-sawyer/
  22. I considered her a friend and she was one of my regular listeners to Signal 2(Staffs/Cheshire). Born Yvonne Burgess in Newcastle U Lyme she was a sparkling talent who knew first hand how to write hit songs. As a Northern fan she particularly liked Queen of Fools - Barbara Mills! Those Pet Clark sides were outstanding RIP Yvonne.
  23. The record was covered by the Soulmasters aka Shakatak and released in 1980.
  24. PM or email sales@goldsoul.co.uk All VG plus. Top drawer Northern evergreens What's Wrong With Me Baby- The Invitations £200 (Sold) My Elusive Dreams- Moses and Joshua Dillard £50 Earthquake- Bobby Lynn. £50 Post £1.50
  25. He dated my sister hence he got in my good books. Several months later I met Butch and he bought a lot of my unknowns in early 1982.
