You must be kidding........it's one of the most popular 45's of all time scene wise and pricing to reflect that is nearer £3,500! And it wouldn't surprise me if it reaches 5k.
There's a big difference between the rare 45's that are insatiable dance floor wise and ones that are just highly collectable.
1200.......I'll buy 10 right now
No......The original 1966 cut was a mixture of vocal phasing between Leonard Grayson(Miles brother) and original TV Joker, actor Cesar Romero.
In fact Leonard gave me his rendition at Soul Trip USA in LA 2004
Probably the right phrase is 'creative opportunism'
He was mad on Northern, had tremendous charisma and I suspect wanted to be famous. His talent got him so far.
His last email to me suggests he isn't interested in Northern due to the negativity he would attract. He's focussed on reactivating his disco works I understand.
For the record, SS didn't produce or have any involvement with Russell Harness. He had done away with Black Magic by then due to the Shalamar lift off.
Harness is from Telford I believe and still around. No idea where the Funkees are and don't care to find out
Interesting that a Paula Roussel single exists from 1966 but as we all know it isnt her on 'Pieces'
Northern Soul 'cheesey' history
There's nothing to gain! Ian found him and has he's banned from this site he asked me to post up the interesting news.
Would we not be interested in say Jeff King coming on and saying 'Anyone interested in discussing the Soul Sounds label or The Yorkshire Ripper speaks from his jail cell about his love of Northern Soul ?
1. I felt it was of interest to anyone even loosely connected with the scene. Let's see who wants the thread locked and leave it that. OK
2. Amazon have 10 pages of books and more on our site..NOT US! They are one of our affiliates.
No interest in any book or financial gain from Soussan whatsoever. Goldsoul are in the events business and no other. You are correct that his personal details are not going to be shared because that's his wish.
As for the 'allegedly' remark, what do Ian Levine and I have to gain? If interest wains on this important character of the 70's via this this platform I will happily lock the thread. Fair enough?
Black Magic was a division of Selecta Disc( Brian Selby) and distributed in the UK at the time by CBS(Sony). John Brattan was label manager and although short lived, they had pretty heft sellers including The Sharonettes(60,000), Dobie Gray(10k plus)
and various similar follow ups all achieving healthy numbers.
The scene had peaked by around 77 with the label trying different things ie Jill Baby Love and The Funkees.
The label folded but the record store flourished in the new emerging indie market and stayed at the forefront, until the untimely death of founder and owner Brian Selby.
Steve- Understand the humorous side swipes, but he along with Ian Levine were the sound of 73-75. Those of us who were very active during that period revel in those incredible song finds.
Give us older guys a break.......ta
True. A few mistakes from the man.......counter balanced by the discovery of Double Cookin, I'll Always Need You, You Didn't Say A Word, I'm Not Strong Enough, You Don't Love Me, Dance Dance Dance, Love Runs Out......... Fair trade off?
Totally agree Ady, which is why I said to Ian.....tread carefully. Simon is new to social media. The whole criticism thing might scare him to death lol
