Ace collector and DJ who had a collection most just dream about.

I think Jim got some of the acetates from me. The Charmaines I believe is Van McCoy. From the same load I got 'I Go Out Of My Mind' also by Van and not Chris Bartley.
The Ad Libs plus other titles he purchased around the time I sold him JD Bryant on Shrine.
Strangely Butch, Tim Ash and myself were discussing him only this afternoon.
Hope he's well wherever he is.

If anyone wants to bring Flint and his new group into the UK, I will supply contact details.
-
Robb- I found Flint and put him in touch with Bob A.
I declined bringing them into the UK as the lead singer is deceased plus there's only 1 or 2 originals remaining.
-
Not sure Mike. If I come across it I will upload
-
There should be an article on them which I wrote back in 2011
Check the archive on this site. It's somewhere as a 'news feature'

Cheers John and Kev.
Kev, sorry, but just for clarity, you are saying the 'Ref-o-ree' logo one is the one that Goldmine put out?
YES
-
Think this was pressed up by Ted Jarrett himself. Dave Halsall might know more info on this as he was in touch with him at the time
Goldmine pressed the PEGGY GAINES after it being on a cd in my office for 5 years! Kent discovered it I believe but at the time Goldmine dealt with the same licensor and eventually released a small pressing of around 300 I think.
Probably bad timing as the fantastic unreleased track had become associated with Ace/Kent making ours fairly anonymous.

Just noticed she passed away in the last few hours.
A tad of throwaway trivia......She had an early Wigan spin with her version of the Apollas 'Just Can't Get Enough of You and later My Town My Guy and Me.
Barbara Jean English who I produced in the 80's did the original
Demo of It's My Party in 1963.
She had a connection with many a youth club back in the day with Maybe I Know too!
Full details of her career history are pretty much everywhere on Google. RIP Miss Lesley Gore

Jeri i wasnt there that night, you're talking about new years eve, but im going to since day 1, not to many times over the last few years and the standard of the music is very high in both rooms, i know kev standards is very high and boots would be totally out of the question, so im putting it down as it shouldn't be being news years eve, i retract from that kev couldnt been there that night or some might have slipped through the rader sorrry jeri i still cant see it cheers billy
Bill- The thread is getting off topic due to meladdo's ill informed and insulting comments. I suggest we cash out and walk the dogs or similar
- 1
-
yes i know all of them quite well with the acception of ginger taylor . i went to the kings hall on a nye allnighter once [never again] where i heard the same record played 6 or 7 times and some of your dj's were playing boots in the main room.
I have indigestion with those comments....Thanks for insulting Andy D, Mick H, Sam and Ted.
-
i thought you left years ago
Wishful thinking....You'll still find me at venues that are mainly full.
Shame you don't like some of the Kings Hall DJ's Mick H, Andy Dyson, Soul Sam, Ginger Taylor and Ted Massey....they have some pretty dynamite rarities. Heard of them?

-
Looks like the worlds no.1 allnighter at the kings hall to me

Ta for looking......
-
original is on Thunderbird its quite rare ' price around £75 pounds
Ludicrous really. It's only a 1975 US reissue too.
And it only came out due to the success of the Black Magic release the same year.
I left hundreds in new release warehouse that very year!
Anyone who think it's some sort of original SELL NOW!
-
Surprisingly it wasn't. I met him in later 75 and then started trading with him.You supplied all that Canadian stuff I seem to remember. Courtesy of George C I presume....?
Ian D
Disco Disc Forest Hills. Bobby Miller. Weirdly enough it's the same source that introduced me to Lloyd Michels.
-
Seem to remember the instrumental of "Lady Marmalade" by Nanette Workman being played around 1974/75 on Pacha, although I might have heard it at the Mecca. Not sure, someone may remember.
You heard it at the Mecca most probably. It was me who supplied it to Ian L.
- 1
-
Steve- It was in the Va Vas ads. See my response to Ian D. But that was after the Torch had closed.Kev,are you sure abouv Shawn Robinson not being played at the Torch? I seem to remember it being listed in VaVa adverts,so that pre-dates it for Wigan at least
Steve
I met Richard in the late Summer of 73 at Va Vas and heard it then. When I reccomended him to Russ, the Casino hired him in the Autumn of 73. Shawn R was one of his plays. By then, others had it and the track started to pick up pace.
- 1
-
Are you sure Kev? I seem to remember this being an oldie long before Wigan. Plus I can remember the Cleckheaton lads singing it's praises after a Saturday at the Torch. Just had a quick search around and I'm not the only one who had this down as the Torch. Who had it first I wonder......?
Ian D
Positive mate. I'm sure it was discovered around September of 73. Richard had it at VA Vas before he worked at Wigan. I have a feeling Ian L also had it at the Mecca around the same time.
Deffo not Torch though.

Thelma Houston- I ain't going nowhere
Baby Washington I've got it bad
Fantastic Johnny C - Don't depend on me
Drifters - You gotta pay your dues
Herb Ward - Honest to Goodness
Teen Turbans - We need to be loved
Montclairs - I need you more than ever
Pointer Sisters - Send him back
Donald Austin - You want it you got it
Just some of the less regular ones that were played in the early years to my recollection.
Very accurate indeed.

No, I sold that to Richard Searling.
