  1. Some well thought out discussion and happy to take part. Back to the ‘Dark End of the Street’ though.........thieves often have someone to sell to immediately........and the embarrassment of collectors/DJs challenging certain known fences can often be gut wrenching.
  2. Half the problem is we are all a bit too old and embarrassed......particularly if we get to know who the perpetrators are. A very close friend of mine had a fair whack lifted yet ‘let it slide’ Far more common than we think. Most are going unreported methinks. Maybe not so much now, back in the day though...........
  3. Hi-Take your point but goes far wider than that In my case we are talking 15 years ago. And 28 years past....an even bigger loss! Sean C around 6 years. It’s not every week. The point I was trying to make is, there have been and still are malicious predators willing to nick anyone’s goods given half a chance. Some have the fence ready to offload to. You can imagine after 48 years on the scene, one could easily name a few names.....which I certainly won’t do.
  4. These days most seasoned pro’s are on double guard duty against predators. When you have done you fair share of gigs though, you can still get caught cold.
  5. Go for the latter
  6. Straightforward opportunism. There has to be someone to sell em on to......sadly those dealers & ‘collectors’ never come forward as I can testify!
  7. My losses totaled around 5 grand. Industry colleague Sean Chapman had 2k’s worth lifted at Prestatyn and now refuses to stand at venues with collectibles.
  8. If your talking about Samantha’s Sheffield, it has to be the one of the worst venues ever for thefts. With the DJ facing the dance floor, your record box would be behind you. I had several nicked in 1974 and again in 2005. I duly ceased promoting immediately thereafter. The really sad part is, I was told that the thief simply did it because ..... ‘I could afford to lose them’......
  9. A very sad day indeed. The true master of vinyl for half a century. Had many chases with him in the US back in the day. He generally won! His mentor the late Bernie Binnick was also a friend Rest in peace dearest John.
  10. www.mixcloud.com/goldsoul Bobby Wilson podcast on his late father and great songs!
  11. No need to apologise.......not sure I ever mentioned it before
  12. It isn’t a bootleg. I found the originals at Bobby Robinson’s(BR) Record Wagon in 75. The Carletts are his daughters. He then manufactured for me 500 on his own BR label. The 4 or 5 copies on its first BR label were sold at £20 each. Cheers
  13. Jordan, To put things in context. The appearance was just a moment in time. Youngsters were dancing and buying Footsee, The Javells, Simon’s Papa Oo Mow and similar He just pushed the boat a bit further and it quite rightly didn’t sail. Shortly after, an influx of funkier newish releases were introduced and they too found debate....even then. Hope you get to hear the recording. Not sure who followed SS.....obviously one of us 3. Oddly enough, he had a box of top notch 45’s with him on stage. We had to suffer the Dyamites- Ain’t No Soul Inst first though before we could get to buy them
  14. A ‘Mad Lad’ who welcomed us to Mclemore Ave, Memphis a few years ago. A charming man I won’t forget in a hurry. God Bless ya John.
  15. Terrible news. A supportive fan of the scene and good writer too. Will miss you pal. Rest in peace
  16. George was a handful by all accounts, but he did finance the manufacture of the single, so I guess it was the typical ‘he said she said’ argument. When I put the Del Larks back together at Soultripusa March 2006, remaining members gave their version of events. Sadly George isn’t alive to throw his two penneth in. Just a great record with bad distribution due to the players in disagreement with Blackwell.
  17. Just to reiterate......The Del Larks Black and Silver DJ was first found at Mcfarlane Music, Newark, New Jersey in 1978. I eventually sold it in 1980 to Dave Raistrick. The promo was manufactured by George Blackwell who not only sang but acted as a local entrepreneur for a few local acts. If anyone needs any further info, I will be happy to answer them. Cheers KR
  18. Here’s John Ellison contact details........ jus1wish@gmail.com
  19. It’s a cast iron certainty.
  20. Halloffame05 is not our account and nothing to do with me. Apology would be nice. #ourlawyersarepermanentlywatchingyou
  21. You should be able to find audio and video of him with us at Soultripusa Los Angeles 2004 His other major NS credit is Alexander Patton. Both James and I along with Alex and Fred Smith were photographed in the Point Moorea Bar In LA during the event. One of the Soultripusa group took it. Dave Ferguson perhaps?
  22. Hello- It came from me in 1975. I hit a store in New York that amazingly had acquired master reels from Broadway and A1 Sound studios. Among the tapes were the Perigents(pronounced The Per-regents) Rampage, Instrumental, Airplane Song plus other George Kerr material. I shared the story with GK during his appearance at the Blackpool Soul Festival 2017 Not sure I gave the acetate I cut to Ian. Feel sure it went to Rob Smith. There you go.......
  23. He was a tremendous contact. Both he and Robert Pruter were instrumental in helping SoultripUSA Chicago 2009 be a great success. God bless Bob!
