yes he is stil going saw him at a do 3weeks ago with same records lol i have always found his hair fasinating it was at the going going gone stage years ago and yet the other week it was like a birds nest all thick again and dark brown as aposed to gray' re toilets at the casino i stoped going in 77 your not teling me they never did anything to them and left them in that state for another 4 years or so did they ??? all that dosh gerry marshal "the owner" made hard to understand

i agree with you mate i get realy pissed off with people slaging the casino and russ, its easy for people to look back and say in hindsight that or this record was crapp when since then so many tunes have evolved some of the stuff being played now is bloody terible and dosent come close to the stuff being played out back then and never will , dont get me wrong when i say this but some of the underplayed stuff is underplayed for a reason "it was crapp"compared to what was being played then but then again the amount of clubs playing the casino play list week after week is a joke but then again if those people enjoy it so be it live and let live!!! ,for me i think you got to cherry pick from the underplayed and progresive venues , i also think russ shuld now pack it in and behave himself now as he is well past his sell by date cant see him doing the dda room can you haaaaaaaaa lol

i was also thinking that a monkey could be a dj even beter a monkey with a lot of money and he would be a star!!! i realy do fail to see why some people hold some dj's in such high regard ? wanna be dj's no i dont think so' a big diference is some of the established dj's now a days is that they purchased there records back in the day when they was 2'6 in old money' this gives them a real big advantage now dont you think ??on the other hand you have granny rich died last week and you now have money to burn you buy the best tunes you can get your grubby little hands on and as many as you can get' you then get your self known by playing your tunes at a few dumps that are over the moon that there club is on the map again thanks to the unknown star !!! you now are begining to build up an ego' the size of a football pitch and word travals fast you get invited up and down the m6 and your a star!!! the other way is this` you work hard for a living you go to listen and dance to music you may never aford to buy it but dont mind paying to hear it' with the bit of money you have left over you save up and buy the records you love thinking may be one day you will be able to play them out at some place then one day a little club opens near you they get to know you and like the records you have worked so hard for every day of your life . and the next thing every body is happy in the little club including you ` your never ever going to be playing at a big er?"quailty" venue but you and the punters at the little club are happy

apears to me some people here dont half think they are somthing so f... what if some bloke for whatever reason decides to buy some records and play them , some of us dont see a need or desire to want to play at er? quality venues i have freinds that have mutch of the same tunes that some of the biger names have in fact beter( including my self) they just dont go around doing there best to get noticed they have other lives and interests , i like many other people have been around this scene a long time and like many others lost intorest years ago but started in to it again in 96 my records where stolen back in the 70s i also dj'd only at my local youth club years ago' i go to burnley i go to my mates club down the rd that is fast gaining a realy good reputation' burscough legion .i go to as many clubs as i can get to clubs all over the place i have a leg in the old '(people that went to the casino sort of clubs )as wel as what i call (progresive underplayed stuff clubs)dda room and so on , i found that apart from my mates club once a month in my neck of the woods there was no place to go apart from the endles amount of clubs that all played the same old tunes , so i started to buy records again records that i liked and when i played them i found that loads of other people liked them`so are you teling me thats wrong ??? ,i was never one for going around shaking every buggers hand and making my self known to people yes i started my own place as i think in my part of the woods it would stand it ' i spent a fortune on a good pa system and finding the right club wasant easy , i had over 110 people in at our first do i had shorny and his mates come up from wolverhampton peeps from bolton all over the place . we have what we think is a cracking club ,any body reading this that knows me will tel you am a very humble sort of person , now i would sugest that acording to what some people have writen on this thred i sopose i would be one of there wanna be's AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY THERE IS NO NEW PEOPLE COMING IN TO THIS SCENE WITH ATITUDES LIKE ON HERE I WONDER WHY ???

yes i was after it as well endid up doing a deal with other tunes .but i bid on one just before xmas sure it went for near 400 or very close to that

first of all how long is a bit of string ?? there are so many diferent ways of looking at it ,playing to himself or being brave ?? there are no rules ,play to the floor or play for safty ? same thing isant it ? ,i play it by ear every time and some times i think f... um straberys to swines ,but i would give in if the floor remains empty over ten minits but i also wouldent go back again like some body already mentiond if your music didant fit in yer wouldent go in the first place thats if you are that extrem, one crowd can say a dj is briliant go to another club and that crowd can say the same guy is crapp , you just do what you got to do on the night the one thing that seperates the two is having the tunes to play in the first place aniway you get invited for what your known for playing if yer face fits that is, for my money there are lots and lots of locall dj's up and down the country that have far more ability & passion and tunes than the big names some just dont have the desire for fame and fortune or piss in the right pot , in fact why have i botherd writing this bolocks

well done exactly what i was thinking ways of atracting young blood , for me the music and the dancing atracted me without the help of the media , this scene has been and always was underground you found it' if you got to find ways of atracting them then its the end of the road

its a mater of opinion i disagree in fact its the worn out 45s as you say that stil make it very diferent as long as it stays very diferent there will be an intorest soon as you make it like all the chart stuff and so on it'l end up long gone and forgoton , we know it was the format of years gone by but its tradition part of what makes it special , in my opinion soon as you start changing it all it becomes somthing diferent and then you may as well start calling it whatever name takes your fancy , and the only young person i know personly on this scene who is in to it big time folows the traditions and loves it as part of the atraction ie the mods the clothes the vinyl the knowledg history the lot oh yes and he dj's and puts some good alldayers on with his farther the lad is only 20 somthing , its just my opinion also like many many other soulies northern soul music never found me i found it we didant need atracting it was an undergoround scene and yet thousands of young people back then found out about it and loved it we didant need er? the media or ways of being drawn in to it so now we need to find ways of atracting young people ? isant the music that good now or somthing

i cant think of any at all round where i live or any clubs i go to and thats hell of a distance i realy wish i could see some it would be realy nice . aniway kid its a real pleasure to know you enjoy the music and trust me the people on this scene will encourage you all i can say is that if people have given you a hard time up your way put the names of people on here and the club and i dont think they will be doing it again , ps: its the record dealers you want to be aware of lol joke

i think there are some realy paranoid presumptioms made regarding the older people on this scene its a joke , yeah man when i die all this i hope will die too ! ive been on the scene years now and these young people have no right being part of it , yeah right if only i could at least see any of all these young people would be a start give me a brake , maybe i must live in the wrong place and go to the wrong clubs or somthing but i would dearly love to see young people taking an intorest as my own kids range from 18 to 29 and they say its embarasing if anything' i have seen some rubish on here but this is geting me down

may be right mate but in my limited experiance of promoting your lucky to see yer money back never mind a big wedg i can only speak of my own experiance it is extremly hard work not to mention stresfull but then again i do everything my self am just a little cog on this scene even though i've been around a long time , but i agree there are people around on this scene that have been milking it for years

am afraid i see this stuff all the time now it apears on soul source very angry and opinionated but who exactly are you talking about because in all my years on this scene i have never ever seen or heard of people you decribe ??who exactly are you talking about ????? fogeys on the dance floor???? i was at maxims i did not see many 25 year olds ??? who are the mystery horible people that hate young people and want to keep the soul scene to themselves ??? not only that but where are all these teribley hard done to young people that are so hated ???? aniway dont hold back let it all out lol , am afraid i would be in my eliment as a promotor if loads of young people tuned up and i dont know any body that would act the way you describe ??

got to disagree with that one , lots of peeps i know canot be botherd any more with nighters due to going to nighters for donkys years age and good nights gone by take there toll and and a lot of peeps are content to go to a good well atendid club and i got to admit some of the clubs have far more people than the nighters like a lot of other people i stil get to 6 or 7 a year and they tend to be the same old faces most of the time i think some people havent a clue what the old real big nighters used to have in atendence maxims in wigan for example last wk was awfull to say the least and yet people on here are saying how well atendid and how good it was they must be triping or somthing ,yep its the same old story its stil the old uns keeping it all going no mater what people say , yes there is some young blood but compared to when we where all young its a drop in the sea , i think if it wasant for burnley i would not bother going to a nighter again , hey its just an opinion dont nail me for it

yes sean couldent agree more mate but my mate just down the rd from me at the legion has been doing it now for at least a year have a look at the dj's play list for the night 'after my do it is incredible but yet same old problem atendance geting low he is thinking of teaming up with me and doing a big venue and just go for the right mix rather than sticking with the rare stuff that way we try and keep the two camps happy so with my brains and his records lol haaaaa cheers sean see yer soon mate

ahh yes in deed i played moving to slow at my do in southport the other week nearly pips blowing up my mind i think ??? ,but am happy to say i got the rca 45 as well and started to play it again after hearing it for the first time in donkys years at blackpool tower wkender this year got mixed feedback from the floor , i can hear it now stomping away in mr Mms ahh the momorys what a tune yet another tune left on the shelf !
