  1. i invited a tumbleweed moment at kingsway hall last night spinning the trammps, hold back the night as a cleggy memory (far from the staple wheel/torch 100mph usual at the venue), expecting (but NOT hoping) the floor may empty.... it didn't.... go figure!
  2. you see, point proven.... entertaining!
  3. hi pete, good to meet you. i enjoyed last night very much, my particular 'bag' is mid-tempo from early 60s to y2k but.... how can one not enjoy a night full of people having such a great time. i get my 'fix' from other venues but still like to dip my toe into the world of kingsway hall occassionally, it's called diversity and some can do that, others can't... but as i say good to meet you and to see you got home safely. (if the 'galately breakfast don't knock you out nothin' will)
  4. then if you know what they play there and it's not to your liking don't go! quite simple really... and please don't be disrespectful to those who do go just because they are enjoying something you're not..... live and let live, not too difficult really is it.
  5. i play what i'm payed to play. if a promoter wants me to play stuff that don't get aired much then that's what he or she gets, if a promoter wants me to fill the floor that's what he or she gets. managed that at kingsway hall last night with a lettle deviation from the regular 100mph oldies sets they enjoy but it would have been disrespectful to the paying public for me to play my jean dushon just because i like it and it don't get much of an airing. but........ i'm certainly not criticising any other dee-jay for his or her policy, if we were all the same then the 'scene' would fly up it's own butt.
  6. not really, i'm paid not to empty the floor whether being adventurous or not!
  7. listened to last 2 hours on the way home from kingsway hall to skeg, the lad did well, very well, a million miles better than that marconi bloke (mr. tedium!!!!) ... just saying
  8. that's why i feel they should not be banned!!! they should also NOT be taken as a guide to who is the 'best dancer' because we all dance how we feel, and that's good enough for us so who gives a shyte what others think but.......... it is pure entertainment, either admiring someones personal interpritation of the music or..... having a good bloody laugh!!!! lets face it, she was funny and it has given loads of people a good laugh (those who don't take it serious!).... just saying
  9. aren't we all?
  10. having said that pete, i had an 'almost tumble weed moment' with velvelettes - he's the one but i think that's because they paying punters hadn't much heard of it.
  11. i know what you're saying soulman but at kingsway hall if one doesn't deliver a footfall on the floor with 60s oldies one may be asked to leave the decks!!! ..... but, as long as one is aware of that before starting ones' set then it's fine. kingsway hall delivers what it says on the tin 100% oldies, and although my perfect night is full of soul from all decades, tempos and genre i do like dipping my toe in the time warp that is Kingsway Hall on occassions, i just can never find a pair of white socks when i need them .
  12. i'm on there tomorrow as well pete (again) so i'll leave my copy at home mate, make room in my box for the snake!!!
  13. thank you soulman, very much appreciated. played t.j. williams and the 'tumbleweeds' as i now call them at kingsway hall in forest town last night and the reaction was excellent.... and you'd have thought it wasn't 100 mph/torchy enough for those guys... yet more addition to my confusion!
  14. "Party Tracks" that'll be levinian mincing back-beat grafted onto otherwise respectable sounds..... just guessing!
  15. goes to prove, there's nowt as fickle as folk bazza! guess that's why the top 500 are the top 500, people in fear of the tumble weed! now, if one played kirk franklin @ kingsway hall then that would be inviting the tumbleweed.... or would it?
  16. thanks teapot, i'd rather skin myself with a rusty knife and rub salt on the sore bits, besides, i think the snake that's in the box would eat ruby andrews!!!!!!!
  17. that wouldn't be a first fatsterman!!!!! i remember rob smith playing sam williams at the palais in about late 77, early 78, cleared the floor except for me and big frank from peterborough. rob rescued the floor by playing james coit!!!! hundreds of lemmings got up and danced..... nothing new there then!
  18. i wasn't just gobsmacked, it sort of confused me for a moment thought i'd just entered the twilight zone. a bit like making an entrance to a party in fancy dress and everyone else is in black tie!! but still, if we all liked the same thing we'd only hear the top 500 played out..... wait a minute!!!!! that's another story!!!
  19. jackie wilson - becuse of you, i know, i know but had to think quick, first time T.J. had let me down!!!!
  20. baby i need you..... didn't bloody need him that night!!!!!!
  21. dee jaying at newage club in stamford, not many there but got good footfall reaction on the dance floor then........ put t.j. williams on......... the floor totally emptied and i could hear the strains of a spaghetti western as the tumbleweed drifted across the floor.... ooops! got them back with the next record but has anyone else got a 'certainty' that went 'south!'
