Firstly great post from Malc, ...Where to start, ...um......Well when i was a young northern soulie,.. , going to mostly local events + the odd niter like wigan, sams, etc, etc, .....Not having loads of spare cash to be honest, ..so Selecta , was just the ticket......and they had the smal 2 story shop in leicester....Where every week we would all pop down.... ..good old days they al were too.....Picking up most of the top sounds being spun at the times.......lol.....at good prices......did,nt have to be all orig, as just wanted the sound to play out or at home . On the crap record players we all had........sound was nowt to do with it....... .....Then after that closed down, and we were going more niters, soul nites out , etc..we all used to buy sounds there, from all the dealers or soulies.......ha, ......Picked up some good stuff over the years......( still no cds in my collection ) ......... Then to cut my story short.......sorry for going on, ......trips to notts became more and more........(1) selecta...(2) arcade records...etc.... As my tastes were moving on at that time.....northern soul still......but also jazz funk, fusion, .....etc.....mostly lps...... Then moving on again......yes i did it , we all did......( i think) .......CDS......yes that word......il never buy any..etc....lol..... Well with the event of , Kent cds coming out.....so good , loads of bonus tracks on them......too good to miss, .....cds were the way for me from there........with the odd vinyl, lp, still but not that many......... Still not really using the pc, net at this time..........always slow me....lol....... And going notts once a week , mostly on a sunday, (when they did open on a sun )... .....as we all went to the notts jazz bop, etc......Which made it a double trip......worth doing , as used to come away with about £80 + a time......always getting some good stuff.......Not in a sale through, as Selecta did,nt ever have a sale...... .......A nd then it came the pc route.......you guessed it, Amazon, play.com, ..ebay, etc. So from there i got some even better deals .......who can blame me or anyone for shopping around.....if its only just the cost, then amazon won for me.......And i could get all the past cds or box sets that i could never find out there.........so selecta for me was one of the better record shops out there .but like most people and time......it all moves on.....just like the music and venues...............still loving the music through.....mart (leic)

Bloody hell this is a on going thread or what.... ....And im so glad it is, .....one of the best niters i went to.....did them all if i remember right...Glad im still about on the scene....just... .....still doing my Jazzy moves everywhere i go........if there is room on the floor,, ....Get more pics on here anyone......wish i had some to post up.......damm it, i was to busy dancing...... ........was only talking to a chap i met sat at the wicksteed park , help for heroes dayer , and yes leic odd, came up........love it.......HOPEFULLY one day we will all meet up ......it must happen soon. ....Now you,re going back.......i had a long blue one made up from a leic shop before they became big (pilot)...cost about £70........and about 4 in from the floor......lol........sorry no pics.......wish id sorted out a camara in the good old days.........cheers mart.

Bloody hell, this post is still running. ...well its about time there was a leic revivel niter ???? lord knows how many of us are left ??.i see in one of the photos above, the bott one, in it looks like phil flavel, with hair... ..still sometimes see him around....some of you lot try and get to that mini leic niter they are doing at the music cafe, in dec, if im correct........was looking at the dvd from leic oddfellows at derby rolls royce last week...ha. think i better get one , while still can...all those great people , many friends...who no doubt will never meet up with.....um...makes you think...all the best to all who know me.hope to bump into some of you on the dance floor...or on a scooter event..now iv a new vespa.gts...martyn

Lord had a few good times there, then onto wigan...could never do it now,,lol Loads of great soul, funky style tunes played there....you had to be there.... Good topic this...Rugbysoulgirl.. im Sorry to say that im sometimes to blame for SPINNIN, alot of the time, Even when the floor is full.... i do try not to get in everyones way, but Sometimes the Music just takes me to another place..( if you know what i mean) weve all been there... I do try to do my stuff when a space appears, but dont like to go mad all the time when the floor is say nearly empty, as dont want to think im showing off.... where to draw the line ?? as sometimes im on the floor for 3 hrs...ha.... Lucky for me people know i need room, ha.. and some give me space ... thanks to you all, you know who you are..!! MOANS if any, for me would be.....djs who dont play for the crowd... and keep it movin along.. AND people who just stand around when there is,nt that much space, gettin in the way..... not good... And last one, When they nick your chair after you,ve been dancing , etc....ha... And by that i mean , they get there 3hrs late, and just take it, while you,re on the floor...um!!!!!!!!!! all the best, to all who know me, martyn.(leic best dancer)

YEP Agree with the above... Had some brill times there.. We all used to catch the old Barton bus from leic.. ha. Good times they all were..Some great soulful people there + the Funk , Jazz crowd also.. Very freindly bunch, up or down stairs.... This is where i got into the , Jazz Funk, Fusion stuff.. .. And got into some serious dancing.. . You had to, to get on the small round dance floor.. . And what clothes we all used to wear.. lol... inc, slip on kung fu shoes.. , Baggy pegs, etc... What times they were.. Would,nt change a thing.... After the palis... it was onto the, Rock City... .. Where Johnathan used to run... Who i believe is back on the , dj tip ?? mart

Had some real top niters there.. we sometimes went, NORTH PARK 1st. local soul nite, kett... Then catch the soul coach from there.. then in the morn get the train back to leic... ha. .. Great days they were too.. would,nt change a thing..well wish id brought more records then..ha. ....When one of us did borrow is dads car, which was a datsun.. ha. Me, + Steve Jeffries, + Russ Kinherd, + the leic fireman who was killed in a fire at work , few years ago. sad time... Rob Miller... miss him still. top man....... Anyway we had some good times there... oh, also adie came with us a few times... forget is last name. ?? i used to warm up in the main room... After lookin at tunes in the large foyer area.. had a few good deals there too.. Then id be going mad at it, in the small black oldies room.. ha.. this and the oddfellows being my best 2 events for me.... martyn.( leic best mover still)..
