  4. Moses Smith - Who is / was he ?? Where did he come from ?? What else did he definitely record ?? Was he someone else's alter ego ?? Where is he now ???
  5. MickH has a scratchy hissey copy ( on Demo ) of Gwen Owens and plays it. He could get a 'copy' for £20 but he has integrity and carries the spirit of Northern Soul with him. I would be embarrassed and ashamed to play it in his presence. You should therefore assume that other DJs may be carrying an Original copy of what you are about to play out in there box. Don't do it. Have respect for the music. Go to The louvre, they put up a Print of The Mona Lisa but, hey, they have the original in their Vaults. Would you accept that, I think not !!!
  6. That's it, stop now. What an awesome tune. It's says everything. Driving, soul, torture and a story to tell. That has got to be The One !!
  7. The Charades - Key to My Happiness Or The Van Dykes - Save Your Love For A Rainy Day
  8. Got to agree with you matey. This inane fascination with The Casino - did more harm than good to the music. Contact by Edwin Starr, that's when Johnno picked his bag up and walked out never to return. Frank Wilson - Motown reject bubblegum, easy listening pop. As long as you can spin on the spot, doesn't matter that you've got no rhythm. Too many topics to discus. Leave us alone, let it die with us.

No good to you but I've got a copy. Play it, I'm back at Samanthas mid 70's. Seen it a few times on E-Bay. Not fetching much and not heard it played out for years, last time was when I played it myself. Good luck with your search - buy it - play it Tezza XXX
  10. Hi Dave, Got your first copy - excellent. A must read for all of us boys and girls. At Prestatyn March so hopefully can pick a copy up there. Cheers
  11. Its not your responsability. He should reinburse you and claim from the Post Office as most packages come with 'insurance'. How much are we talking ?? 100s or 10s ?? They should be covered for £36 iI believe as standard.
  12. Raymond Smith - Seven Day Lover (1X Chains Demo) Judy Freeman - Hold On (RCA Demo) Jumping at the Go Go - Various (RCA LP) Let Her Dance - Bobby Fuller Four (Mustang) Save Your Love For a Rainy Day - The Van Dykes (MALA Demo)
  13. Sad sad news today about the loss of Steve Mancha Coincidently I was making enquiries last week about a track I have listed as Steve Mancha - The song Title is 'Unyielding' Is this correct and if so what label and where can I get one ??
  14. Burning Bush - Keep On Burning - (Mercury WLD) Johnny Jay - You Get Your Kicks - (Josie) Major Harris - Call Me Tomorrow - (Okeh WLD) Reggie Garner - Hot Line (Capitol Demo) Kenny Smith - Lord, What's Happening To Your People - (GAR Stock Copy)
  15. Bub - A hero - Its been Ten Years since he passed and he still looms large in the memory. A real gentleman and a true Northern Soul legend.
  16. I'm the Fat Ginger Kid and I have no problem mentioning Frank Wilson (although It's never really been a favourite of mine). Good luck with the sale.
  17. Am looking for definate Start Dates and finish dates for venues we used to attend all those years ago. Samanthas, Bonds Main/Maine/Mane (however it was spelt), Wakefield Unity Hall, Matlock Bath Pavilion, KGB (the original 70s one) in Sheffield and the Baileys awesome Nighters in Donny and Sheff. Went to them all and know when I went but love to know when they were born and when they died.
  18. Thieving Bastards... I was there and nooticed it was gone but presumed it had been taken down and stored away. Hope you get it back ready for March - Its part of the scenery now. Love the place XXX Tezza
  19. Looking for an original 60s copy of No Time by JOHN AND THE WEIRDEST (I prefer this side to Can't get over these memories) Got a pressing but it doesn't sit right in my box.
  20. I don't think it was ever released but want a copy of :- Deon Jackson - Someday The Sun Will Shine. Vinyl please but, copy/pressing/boot, whatever.
  21. Just an extra .. What I am looking at in particular is 'Northern Soul' and not Soul music in general. People tell me that the are so inextricably linked that it is impossible to differentiate. In the 60's/70's the Northern Soul scene, as it became known, was very exact in its parameters. We still remember 1974 when Ian Levine first played The Carstairs and how we thought it was the beginning of the end. Everybody has an opinion I just need some good, honest feedback. Thanks Terry
  22. Hi Sandi, Love the sentiment. I agree whole heartedly with your opinions on Soul Music in general. I love all genres of Soul Music but the thing that 'annoys' me is the fact that it is labeled Northern Soul. You don't go to a Rock 'n' Roll gig and expect to hear Robbie Williams but apparently he falls under that umberells. I don't want this to fall into one of those usual slanging matches that most threads on Soul Source tend to do. This is exactly what I want, other peoples opinions on the subject. As I said, I'm not arrogant enough to presume I am right in my opinion and eveyone else must fall in to place its just that I prefer ..... whereas you prefer .... More of the same please. Also, contact me on Halloween_Jack1@Yahoo.com and I will send you a questionnaire. Get your views aired. May not seem important enough to some people but it gives a good indication as to what the majority feel. Thanks agian for your time Terry
  23. 'Northern Soul' is a different thing to different people. What I call good NS is probably not what you consider NS. Its centered around my life as I can only comment on my personal feelings and experiences. I myself find that The Majestics has no place at a Northern Soul venue but you only need to look at the Dance floor to see how wrong I am. Since I started in the early 70s the scene has gone from one extreme to another and Northern Soul venues are now a scarcity as they are nearly all Motown / Soul nights which allows for a wider range of 'Soul' to be played. Again, not wanting to cause a 'whos right/ whos wrong' thread I am just after peoples experiences and feelings. A chapter in the book will be dedicated to those of us who may feel that Northern Soul is being somewhat diluted and another to those who beleive things are good and the scene is the better for it. Don't bark your disapprovals at me, fill in a questionnaire and have your say. Thanks for looking and please Lend a Hand
  24. Hi, I am writing a book about my life in Northern Soul and the way it has changed over the years. I have tried before to get some feedback but tend to get just negative responses. It is about peoples perceptions of the scene and all honest feedback is welcomed. I need stories, and if possible pictures, of the 'old days' and also from the fresher eyes of the newcomer. I am not out to critisise but to get a good overall perspective. I have a questionnaire to fill in and the best responses will be featured along with due representation. Please don't dismiss this, take a bit of time to talk about the music you love so much. Send for a questionnaire to the following E-Mail Address Halloween_Jack1@Yahoo.com Thanks for your time and please try to help. Got some good memories - share them
