  1. April Stevens ?? Playing at Derby Assembly Rooms Nighter on Sept 15th. I will play it for you there if you wish. Still gets played occasionally around the North Midlands. My 'never get tired of ...' has to be ' Moses Smith - Girl Across The Street '
  2. Agree. Surely you collect Records you like then play them out hoping upon hope that others like them too. Never buy a record just because someone else want to hear it !! You are booked as a DJ for what you play and your taste in the music ( be it Old or New ). Being told by the Promoter what to play ?? Can get anyone to do that. With that in mind then surely a 1 hr set would give time for the DJ to express himself/herself. You don't have to be a slave to the floor but common sense must prevail. Everyone has a few to fall back on that gets people up but the rest of the set is for you, the DJ. When booked to an event they know your M.O. as do most of the paying public. At Nighters, the DJs are generally the 'Big Names' and we are all aware of their 'Playlists'. 1 1/2 Hrs should suffice.
  3. Local, smaller events then 1 Hr sets are good. As said, allows the DJ to build. If they are crap then the onus should lay with the promoter. They should know the DJ and their rep prior to booking. NIghters/Dayers then probably 1 1/2 Hr should be adequate.
  4. I consider myself slapped. Must learn to read back through before making a brash statement !!
  5. Can I just clarify that the Terry (Tezza) who is on this thread is not me !! Lol !! As always we tend to loose the thread as we progress but Nige is correct - Right to reply and defend an accusation ( or whatever ) is a fundemental right of all ...
  6. Baileys, Doncaster circa 1976 - Met and chatted for an hour with Edwin Starr Prestatyn 2010? The Velvelettes and Dean Parrish sang Happy Birthday - Just For Me !!!
  7. I remember it being very late in the 70's and as you said, immaculate compared to the 'usual' venues. Felt like we had to wipe our feet going in instaed of coming out !! Can't find anything on Internet about it so trying to remember but there was a Nighter every week plus other stuff so difficult to pinpoint Times, Dates, and DJs etc
  8. Awesome nights and a magnificent setting. Closed on a 'technicality' as the Police caught someone with something in Chessy Town or on a bus. They were desperate to close it. I wrote for Derbyshire Times at the time and had my story ' retouched/edited' by the Entertainments Boss at the time. Packed the paper in after that. The place is still there and still a Proper Venue for a Nighter. Not sure if its been looked at again ??
  9. Not sure if these have already been mentioned, apologies if they have :- Baileys - Sheffield Baileys - Doncaster The Bradbury Club - Chesterfield Unity Hall - Wakefield Blackhearts - Notts
  10. Anyone know when the very first All Nighter was held at the Assembly Rooms in Derby - in the late 70's me thinks - and possible recall who DJ'd there ?? I remember going, I remember coming home ......
  11. Sold mine in '81 for £25 - Had Looky Looky on B Side ?!?! Still regret it now.
  12. Danny Wagner - I Lost A True Love (immediate thought) but now there's all this talk of The Idle Few it's made me rethink a little. Have to get back ....
  13. All hearts out for you and yours matey. Will check out your list but only if you are deffo, not just a knee jerk reaction. Saying that, there are more important things in life than a bit of vinyl XXX
  14. Wow !!!!
  15. Not as bad as I thought. Might search a little. Not a massive 'now' track but have great memories of it, the synchronised hand clapping, the pounding in my chest and the floor bouncing !!!
  16. The Jades - Where it's at ? Original copy - How much would it be worth ??
  17. Thanks Mick, Makes sense about the List Numbers. Will investigate a bit further now I have that info. Terry
  18. If all 4 are out there, which is the Original 'Ultimate' 1st release. Are the prices any different for the different variations. ?? Looking for a copy and don't want to be sold a lemon !!
  19. 3 Hours ?? Where do you live, Paris ??!!?? Pressure would be on then if you travel all that way, squeaky bum time. Let me know if and when you want to come over, you can be my guest. No Charge for you and yours. !! Do you DJ any ?? could even get you on for an hour !!!
  20. Yep Billy. Thats my/our club in Chesterfield. Got a do this Friday - Don't know how far away from us you are but you are more than welcome anytime
  21. Mr Whizz, I played it in the Northern Room and it got a great reception so I suppose by default it is Northern. Rare ?? Don't see it for sale too often at all but only fetches up to £150 (probably due to it not being a top 100 toon) As its not available too often it could be said to be rare but not sure how many are out there. People don't feel safe playing it so doesn't get aired too often so gives the impression its rare !! Best I can do Billywhizz !!!
  22. Ok Macca, you have got me interested in something new (to me). Will be busy on You Tube tonight !!! Cheers matey
  23. Cheers Pete
  24. Bow to your superior knowledge - Mariachi ?? New one on me that, more investigations required me thinks Lol !!
  25. What has 'The Flasher' got on the B Side I wonder ??
