  1. Surely its the promoters responsibilty to research the DJ. You ask a DJ to come and play because of what He or She plays not to come and play your records !! Yes, the DJ, if a learned type, can see how things are going and change his plan on the night to cater but ultimately the Promoter should shoulder the blame. You wouldn't ask Jimmy Savile to come and DJ at a Kids Party would you ??
  2. What is it ?? Cant see 'Attachments' at work !!
  3. I sold a Record 3 weeks ago and sent it in advance in good faith - ( Idiot !! ) The buyer has not been in touch at all with any kind of message. E-Mailed and raised an incident and still nothing. Learned a hard lesson me thinks !!! Would love to leave negative feedback about this user but like most places these days its almost impossible !!
  4. I commented on this very subject yesterday and would say .. It is rude and very unprofessional to cut a record half way through when someone is Dancing. They have paid their entrance fee and are entitled to Dance if they wish to. If it is the case where we remove discs that don't get a full floor where do we put the level before we lift a record - 2 maybe 3 people dancing ?? You should play a record through irrespective of the floor, should it be empty or full. Often get more feedback from a 'quieter' record than a floor packer. We are at an age now where the majority of visitors come to listen rather than Dance !! You will get a lot of response to this tread stating that if, in the past, we lifted a record because of an empty floor we would never here anything new ( or conversely really old !! ) Have faith in yourself, the music is appreciated despite the lack of foot movement !!
  5. Its a curse !! The only place I feel accepted !!!
  6. There are some very knowledgeable folk on here. Got a question, you WILL get the answer.
  7. Don't think there's much else to say on that one !!
  8. I agree Dekka, We shouldn't be thinking of a legacy but living it in the here and now. If it is picked up in the future then so be it but we haven't an obligation to 'leave something behind' The scene is a massive testament to the UK's Soul boys and Girls and their undying love for the music. In the States they are all for now and don't dwell on the past, you've had your day now it's someone else's turn !! I believe it will die with us. There are a few kids into it but not enough to sustain it in the way we have it now. Maybe an odd do here and there occasionally but .. Lets hope it catches the imagination of the youth as it did with us.
  9. Born in the mid 50's but had an older Sister ( by 6 years ). Mum was a big Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke and Ray Charles fan. My Sister was a Mod and into her Motown, Stax and Atlantic stuff. Was spoon fed Soul from a very early age and so it was a massive part of my childhood. Got into the Progressive stuff in the late 60's and obviously Bowie in the 60's, 70's 80's 90's ..... but always came back to my roots. Typical White. Middle Class Soul Boy !!! Peer pressure is a big part of everyones Musical history. Fortunately I mixed with the right people !!!!
  10. I'll have 2 please !!!
  11. What is it Ted ?? Can't get E-Bay at Work !!!
  12. He was one of those lads that looked massively older than he was and now looks massively older than he is !! At school he was the one that you didn't want to stand next to in the shower !! ( sounds a bit pervy that !!)
  13. We used to take a kid called Johno with us to The Casino in '74 - he was 13 going on 14. Still doing it now and still a young kid to us !!
  14. Despite the games of oneupmanship, I am now at ease with this and have sufficient leads to progress to a fruitful outcome. Thank you for all your help and for your information as to the history.
  15. Wow - Out of the blue or what !! Awesome venue, ideal for us and ours. Well done Phil for getting it back to start with.
  16. Touche. My apologies
  17. Have to come for a trundle over the Pennines me thinks.
  18. I seem to think I heard it at The Casino but fleetingly. Obviously, we don't hear everything that gets played. As it came and went very quickly it may have slipped under the periscope. As Pete says, a lot of the 'slower' stuff played back in the day. We weren't all 100mph slaves. I like it. It would be a sad world if we all liked the same stuff. Vive La Difference Lets not fall into an argument over this !!
  19. I need to change the places I frequent. Difficult to crow bar 'new stuff' into play lists round here !!
  20. As I said earlier Phil, quality tooon but long forgotten. Not on the radar anymore. Would love to play it out again !!
  21. I don't mean during the 80's I mean it was popular then but now seems to be a forgotten toon. Seldom, if ever gets played. These days there are so many 100mph and crossovers played that the older, more mellow sounds, are getting drowned out ( Not saying everywhere before people start 'putting me right' ) - Have to be careful what you say on here !! Some great stuff came to the top thanks to Stafford. Awesome place and one of the reasons we can still go to Northern do's these days, kept it alive !!
  22. Played around 76 onwards (if memory serves). Can be found on a CD of Casino, the one where it is narrated at the begining ... Loved it then but fell out of favour. Not seen it on Dore much but available on Joe Boy everywhere. Played again at Stafford but again sank below the horizon. Great old sound to it
  23. Want the original release of this old Casino sound. ( Not the Joe Boy Release )
  24. Tragic !!
  25. Yep - Totally agree
