  1. Bizarre how many do the 9:00 till 4:00. Buggered if you don't have a Car
  2. Trouble is though. they pander to the whims of he who shouts loudest. There may not be enough of the adventurous type left to sustain a 'new scene' they just want the Tesco's Bargain Bucket CD stuff. We live in a throw away society now and it would soon be last years toy. I still think it would be worth a try though. Just need the resouces and Centralised Venue to attract from all sides.
  3. It wpould have to be run by Fresh or at least not the Promoters that are on the Big Things at the moment. Want a new or at least different format. I'll find a venue Pete, me, you, MrC, Peter99 and a few others can Police it !! Or perhaps we could leave it to someone else .....
  4. I heard he was a right tw&t !! You out Tonight mate- Davy's ? See ya there XX
  5. Will do John. Enjoy your weekend wherever you go.
  6. Labels ? Demo ? Condition ? May be interested in one, maybe two
  7. Yes, Tongue was firmly placed Kev.
  8. This weekend - Friday/Saturday - there are 82 ( i think ) Gigs on Soul Source. If the average attendance is say 50 people to each event then there will be err uurrmm over 4000 people attending events this weekend. Wow, thats a nice number. I have probably drastically under estimated the figure at that ! There will be a lot of 'double ups' I know. And, if going by all the feedback we read, each event is a banging night with a packed Dance Floor and busy busy then the future surely looks bright.
  9. BOOM !!!
  10. Ha ha - Might give it a bit of air - Think it will go down well with the regulars. Proper Oldies Night !!
  11. Ouch - Cheers Pete Real 50's stuff
  12. Hi you knowledgeable crowd. Got a 10" 78rpm RCA Demo No 4381 copy of April Stevens and Nino Tempo Orchestra ? Tricks of The Trade b/w Put Me In Your Pocket. I believe its from 1952 ish. Dont have a 78 player anymore so never heard it - Any info ??
  13. I think I got in a bit too deep there. I'll get in the Taxi with you Mal ..
  14. I think that we have reached an impass. My views differ from yours and I cannot see a common ground. I am too cynical whereas you are hopeful for the future and its past. Again, I must reitterate. No problem with the Plaque idea as a Plaque but as a Heritage Site ? That is where this began. This will not be a private Funeral or Service of Remembrance, it will be pounced upon by the media, but again, that's my cynicism creeping in. Too many of the old guard have left because of the 'dumbing down' of the scene over the years and the little things are just adding fuel to the fire. May not seem much on its own but as an overall disturbance You only have to read what is a multitude of threads on here and see how many say ' the reason i left the scene is because of this, or that ' and these are not kids we are talking about. As big and strong as a building may look, undermine the foundations and it is only a matter of time before she topples over into a pile of rubble. When that time comes we will all be there to pinch a brick and remember the great times. I hope to the great invisible sky wizard that I am wrong and we all get through the other side unscathed and our Souls intact. Happy August XX
  15. Thought you said you were out of any further conversation ! True though mate, so very true !!
  16. Perhaps I should leave it there. I don't want this to descend into a personal battle of wits. I understand the romance behind it and praise your passion and dedication.
  17. I agree to an extent Barry. On its own it is a commendable thing ( apart from the Heritage thing Ha ha ! ) But possibly, to me , the wrong moment in time. Films and TV Programmes are rife with Soul references at the moment and even a couple of high profile ones which are set/based on the Northern Scene. The BBC are just shooting a 1/2 Hr Prog for the Culture Show. It seems as though everywhere we turn it is NS. Last time this happened we had an influx of folk comimg along to gawp at the Baggy Trousers and Big Skirts jumping around. Nearly destroyed us. I fear we are on the edge of another abbys and we may not be able to recover this time. But as I said, I am a cynic ! Memorial Plaque - go for it, I would gladly chip in but be discrete !!
  18. I am possibly/probably in a minority whereby I am not bothered about Lording Up the Northern Soul Scene. We, in the past, had to run the gauntlet of ridicule and were left in our underground clubs until it fell into the hands of the Money Men. Anything that advertisers NS I look on with trepedation and fear that it will once again be placed high on the parapit to be shot at. Too old to be arsed to run that again. At the moment, Northern Soul is this years flavour but when its been sucked for a while and the taste becomes a little bland and the money been bled then what will become of it ? Cynical perhaps - no, definitely.
  19. Memorial Plaque yes, Heritage Site ?? It no longer exists, there is a Shopping Centre where it used to be. You can't deem an area a Heritage site because something used to be there. A Building is a Heritage Site - Paul McCartney was born here, The signing of the Magna Carter was performed here but a Heritage Site on the floor in a Shopping Centre ?? I live in Chesterfield and we are surrounded by Buildings that date back to the 1500's/1600's but we have no Heritage Plaques anywhere. They have meaning and Historical value but Heritage sites ? Just because it is part of your Heritage doesn't make it a Heritage site. I think we will find the Heritage is the stumbling block here. Memorial Plaque - Go for it, gladly donate. Northern Soul is not as important to the rest of the World as it is to us, we should remember that and embrace it. It is ours and we should protect it from the profiteerers and exploitation brigade. Remember with fondness but don't put it on a pedestal to be a target for the unbelievers.
  20. Your task, should you choose to accept it is ............
  21. Yep, me too. A couple of days ago.
  22. Memorial Plaques are everywhere and I personally would have no problem with that but a Heritage Plaque - We are pouring a bucket of over importance on this. To us, yes, but Heritage ?
  23. Really, A Plaque ? The Casino was a part, yes an integral part but just a part of a wider already established 'Scene' that had arisen over the previous 5,6 - 10 years, however you choose to look at it. It is important in our field but as a Heritage Site ? The Majority of the time The Casino as it became, was used for other things, or not used as the case may be. Are we to have a Plaque at Samanthas in Sheffield which holds more and better memories than The Casino - for me ! Wakefield Unity Hall - 6 Months but what a 6 Months it was. Cleethorpes, Blackpool Mecca, Va Va's ... Its your own memory and it should be so. we shouldn't be foisting our own perceptions of importance onto this its got to be in perspective. We on the Soul Scene have a self absorbed blanket of importance that we wrap around ourselves but to some outsider we are considered the Clowns in the great Music Circus. Perhaps we should just accept out station in life ( not Station Road ! ) and try to fall back to our nice little underground bunker that we used to frequent back then. Long live the Memory of the Casino - we loved you but now you're gone.
  24. Bazza, It's been around a while but like you say, not many around so doesn't get played out much. Not sure when this first raised it head above the choppy waters of the Soul Scene but a fantastic tune.
