  1. You are absolutely right & that's perhaps why I was confused - the photo with Edwin in the brown leather suit I recognise but not the others..... The attached photo was also taken at Hinckley possibly at one of those live gigs I mentione earlier (P.S. the Curtis Mayfield one was top as stated)... Mick
  2. S'funny one this - I wasn't at the Ric Tic Revue as I couldn't get back to the UK from Germany where I was stationed at the time but I was certainly at some other 'live act' all nighters at Hinckley but apart from the Curtis Mayfield one I can't remember the others which is pretty sad. I must've been at the Edwin Starr one 'cos I have his autograph as well as one of the girls' from the Marvelettes who were on the same bill and I have Kim Westons from the gig she did there but again I don't remember them. Here's some photo's - Del, might have met you and Vicki there and as regards Shippo from Notts didn't know he'd passed on - a shame 'cos he was a nice guy.
  3. Mark You always told me that your favourite was Mud not Showaddywaddy....... Anyway, mine was Eddie Parker and Lorraine Chandler at TOTW - amazing
  4. Martyn Not 100% sure but I don't think it was JV who played it - Ginger maybe? Mick
  5. What an effin' record - when I saw the question it took me right back to St Ives circa 77 where I first heard Sam play it...... remembered the Jerry Jackson bit but not Herman Lewis Didn't Steve Whittle have a copy? Mick
  6. Hey Lady how are you, Mick & Warwick? Hope you're well too. Let us know when (if) you find it what's on it - I'm not in touch with Gilly these days but I've e-mailed Craig Butler to ask..... P.S. Are you going to Stafford?
  7. Philly It just came to me - I'm sure that I heard her do an a capella version of My Dear Heart on that same tape (it was a long time ago so perhaps I dreamt it)...... Mick
  8. Philly I heard some Diana Ross a capella songs on some tapes at Gilly's many years back. Not sure if there was a version of this though but it might be worth asking him? Mick Howard
  9. I knocked around with Ady Harley, Sue & Kyle, Jimmy & Alison, Sue & Alan (Huddersfield), Christine & Simon (Bradford), Craig & Ozzy (Brighouse) et al briefly when I lived in the 'fax' (Siddal) back in the 80's. I hope they don't have a problem with bringing you up to date but........ Ady - emigrated to Oz (saw some photos in the gallery from an Oz weekender with him in them) Sue & Kyle - Sue still with Brad from Colne (as far as I am aware) and of course Kyle married Rosemary a few weeks ago Jimmy & Alison - split up fairly recently - met up with Alison briefly for the Wilton back in March and with Jimmy at the last Wilton I went to in May Sue & Alan - Sue happily married c/w sprogs but not with Alan who I also see regularly at the Wilton but as is his shauvenstic want he's not 'going steady' (ha ha) Craig - happily married for a long time now to Debbie - see them both quite regularly when I travel down South Ozzy - sadly passed away a couple of years ago due to alcohol related illness - had a great 'wake' for him with a few folk from the scene including Craig & Debbie, Flyyny (from Brighouse), Dean and Bernie (Nottingham), Debbie Troops (apologies to those I've not mentioned) Incidentally my ex wife's cousin was a regular Casino punter but for the life of me I can't remember her name but she died back in the early 80's of an aids related condition.. How time flies....................... Mick
  10. Just read the BBC article in which JM confirms the buyer wants to remain anonymous - why? I'd be chuffed to have it & probably couldn't keep it to myself - well, not for long anyway. Perhaps the 'secret' buyer feels a sense of vicarious shame due to the humungous number of negative comments, some quite vicious, that have erupted since the announcement of the records' sale. The record is and will remain a part of the British Northern/Rare Soul scene forever; for record collectors of this genre the myths, truths, lies, shady deals, supposition (and whatever other epithets are appropriate) are, in my humble opinion, the very essence of what it's all about........... "Here I am on bended knees....................." Mick
  11. How about The Determinations (of Bing Bong fame on King) being an early Tavares........ Wikipedia says that Tavares evolved from Chubby & The Turnpikes but as a few people have said on this thread, Wikipedia can't always be trusted.... Mick
  12. I'm doing a little research about Detroit (as if that subject hasn't already been done to death) and find that the address 4466 Chene is the same for both the final 2nd series Lupine releases and Mr Kelly's lounge where some of the Detroit Soul acts performed yet I can't find any more information about a possible connection. Does anyone know if there is one and if so what (Robert West?)? Cheers Mick
  13. Haven't got a clue how to paste an extract from a pdf file into this system so just to say that a small article appeared in the Scottish Sun yesterday which reads: "One of only two playable copies of Motown producer Frank Wilson's record Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) could fetch £75,000 when auctioned in April by Fife DJ Kenny Burrell, 55" Mmmmm - perhaps the writer has been on this site and has cherry picked some of the theories..... To Snook Back in the 70's it was either Soul Sam or Brian Rae who played it at St Ives. Soul Sam is mentioned in this thread as having had an acetate but I know for certain that Brian played it on the recognised black In bootleg before it was available to the punters 'cos I had a butchers at the time. Mick
