  2. For a fellow Leigh lad or Leythunian has we are now known due to the massive influx of Eastern Europians in Leigh these days Paul came across quite well in the Documentry it makes a change see,in a educated Leyther most of the current Leythers are still ratting and snarrin rabbits or spearing carp as pastimes just had a walk around town it was like going to one of Ian Dewhursts fav raves every bugger had a shell suit on and where talkin gibberish ?This England. Then Wigan Cas Days ...Now Harry Enfield Land LOL What's needed is a documentry with people who where on the scene from pre Wigan Cas days people who have never left the scene throughout all the years people who have lived and breathed Soul Music people who can tell the real story about the beginnings of what Godin termed Northern Soul plus the people like John Anderson Martin Koppell Simon Soussan Ady Crosdale I Levine Kev Roberts Dickie Searling and Andy Rix Rob Thomas Andy Dyson Guy Henninghan Keb and the guys in the states like Bob Abarams ( Boba ) Val Shively ect et ect Plus input from the artist who are still with us in a warts n all Documentry about Northern Soul the true story mind you it would have to be a few hours long lol
  3. Ha Ha Richard when Enter the Dragon came out we all became Kung Fu Fighters lol Martial Arts Clubs sprang up all over Leigh & District I joined Dave Hodgsons Atemi Jutsu Academy and got that many injuries in the next few years I could hardly walk never mind dance LOL
  4. The Bowling Alley was next to Leigh Bridge at the side of the canal where the Aldi supermarket and Waterside pub is now I think it shut in the late 60s we use to go after school and hang around in there .. I use to go out with a lass from Burtnwood Sue Duxbury in 1971 her sister Brenda's husband had some great records which I managed to wangle one or two off him for a small place Burtnwood village had a lot of soulies who use to go to the Highland Room Torch ect ect
  5. Beware all the dancers are Kung Fu fighters and take the piss and they will kick ya to Wiggin n back lol Bruce Lee what a laugh the lass should have researched and she would have known the early northern dance moves where copied from soul artist like the legendary James Brown Jackie Wilson ect ect ect
  6. Quite good ..Enjoyed watching it but if they should have interviewed me and the lads n lassies who lived with me at the Bungalow in Lowton just down the rd from Wigan if they wanted a more nitty gritty view on Wigan Cas at the beginning lol Nice to see mi buddy Dave Withers then & now top bloke the young soulies have a fanatic passion for the music just like I had all those years ago and still have to this day Northern Soul.. But for Black American Soul Music we would never have met so many nice people, become very good friends with so many or had our life's fulfilled by a type of music which for many of us is not just a hobby but a way of life... Don't Keep The Faith Spread It Love, Peace & Happiness Always Ian Cunliffe ( without the baggy pants n vests )
  7. Northern record sales did,nt they have a branch in Manchester early 70,s St Stephens Square ? I remember going into that shop it was full of Dave Godins Soul City 45s everything on the label ... Robinsons records hey Rick plenty happy memories of that shop lol
  8. What i would like to know who was supplying all the shops with US Soul Imports 45s from around 1970--75 here in the Northwest in my hometown Leigh there where around a dozen small shops including junk shops paper shops electrical shops ect selling soul imports on small independant labels just down the rd in Bolton was the same we use to travel on the bus to a small paper shop in Little Lever just down the rd from Bob Hinsleys current home and get loads of decent 45s.. Bostocks in Bradford where did they get all that stock ??? Ian Cunliffe
  9. Leigh just down the road from Burtonnwood Air Base in Warrington ( which was the biggest supply base in europe ) had a thriving Bowling Alley in the 1960s where American servicemen used. Back in 1971 the Commander at the base had beautiful twin daughters my age and they hung around with myself and my mates i can still see my mum n dads & relatives faces when i walked into my cousins wedding with one on each arm one evening in 71 LOL.
