Anyone seen this brilliant film about the Chess record label. It's got Beyonce as Etta James and features tunes by her and others like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Little Walter. I saw it last night and thought how well it was made. That Beyonce sure has some talent other than singing. Wonder if she knows anything about the history of our scene. Hiya Malc, sounds very familiar to a situation some 28 years ago in Lancashire does'nt it?? Apparently the site was gonna be used for an old folks home and i did'nt know until now that it had'nt been built. Anyway mate i can remember some fantastic times on the Pier, dancing to the Commodores, the zoo. Bloody thing used to rock on its stantions to that record. How it never collapsed into the North sea is beyond me. Anyway i'm back in the U.K soon for the Skeggy weeknder and might just take a ride over to Clegg to show the missus where all the fuss was created. Any idea what Mary Chapman is doing now ?? Just rooting through my files and came across a couple of original acetate label scans from Motown and wondered if anyone else has seen or got them. Quite interesting actually as one is for the original of Baby have mercy on me by the Originals that was re-titled Suspicion. Dates are 22/4/66 for the master and 25/5/66 for the disc cut. The other is for the Marvellettes, sugar never been as sweet as you. Dates are 2/6/69 for the master and 5/6/69 for the disc cut. Both have Berry Gordy's signature.
